- The Cloud of Darkness tends to be called an "it", like a Pokémon. But since it looks feminine (Some males in the series have lipstick and eyeliner, but the CoD also has boobs), I'm using female pronouns.
When you confront the Dark Cloud, she plans to use her power to swallow both the Light and the Dark into the Void, meaning nothing after nothing will be left behind. The Dark Warriors I got before appear and sacrifice themselves to weaken the Dark Cloud a bit by removing her influence over the Dark Crystals. Despite this, she can just use the remaining Light Crystals' power to kill the Light Warriors, commencing the final battle of the game.
Unlike that hellish curbstomp in the Slyx/Crystal Tower, before, you can now ALMOST go toe-to-toe with the Dark Cloud. If you have Ninjas, equip them with Shurikens before fighting her. When thrown, that's one use. Reequip them to use them again until you run out. It's time-consuming, but reequipping them doesn't count for a turn. Reequipping them and attacking does.
Also focus on trying to heal the your party every single turn. Since this is the last fight, go all out with your strongest Summons, Cure4, and use as many Phoenix/Fenix Downs and Elixirs as you can. Eventually, my strategy doesn't last long, and three of my four characters get killed. So I have to rely on my last, remaining character get rid of the Cloud of Darkness once and for all!
Victory was had. The Light Warriors have saved the world! With their airships, they flew their allies, the Five Hearts of Light, back to their homes to be reunited with their loved ones.
All except for Princess Sara, who wanted to spend some more time with the boys as they flew back to their hometown of Ur. This was the biggest reunion as the boys get reunited with their adoptive parents: Topapa & Nina.
From there, they see that the balance between Light and Dark has been restored, as the excess Darkness disappears over the world and the Light returns.
The Cast Roll features the main characters of the game, including the four Light Warriors & their ending levels, the Five Hearts of Light including all of the four old men, Dorga, Unne, and even the deceased Elia.
The Staff Roll is kinda cute, as throughout that part of the credits, it shows every single Job in the game making the names appear.
I have now finished the whole NES Trilogy of Final Fantasy, despite me playing the GBA remakes of the last two. It's time to move onto the SNES Trilogy, starting with Final Fantasy IV!
Which English version of FFIV that I should go with is another story, but I know what I'm NOT picking: The US SNES game Nintendo of America calls "Final Fantasy II". DAMN you, censorship! - Ігри

Her boss theme is so underrated

Underrated? Black Mages made a cover of it, it appears in Chocobo Racing... I would rather say it is a Final Fantasy classic track.
Its kinda generic and too short to be taken seriously.

In Dissidia, Cloud of Darkness is clearly a female, but she describes herself as "we" instead of "I."
I think the "we she is referring to is her and the two snakes, as they also have their own health values.
***** Only in the DS remake. Also, Dissidia tried it's best to tie itself with the NES version.
***** The "we" is referring to the fact that she is the collection of all the darkness in existence - hence "we" rather than "I". She is an avatar that epitomizes the collection of all dark energies in order to try and stop you from extinguishing the dark powers and bringing balance and order back to the world.
I hope that clears it up a little bit better!
I just finished Final Fantasy III last night and am working my way through Final Fantasy IV today. I'm quite excited to finally beat the Final Fantasy games that I never had the time or motivation to play all the way through in the past.
If anybody is curious about the platforms I'm playing the games through as well, here's the list. I know people who play through the series for the first time want to play the BEST versions and well... these are the versions that I personally feel give the best experience.
Final Fantasy I (PSP/iPhone - I beat it on PSP back when it first came out)
Final Fantasy II (PSP/iPhone - Beat on iPhone, had it on PSP but never finished it back then. Finally beat it a couple days ago.)
Final Fantasy III (PSP - I have it for iPhone but PPSSPP is such a great emulator; it looks way better on there.)
Final Fantasy IV - The Complete Collection (PSP - Again, I have both IV and After Years on my phone... but I prefer the remake on PSP as it has the same graphics style as the 20th Anniversary versions of I and II)
Final Fantasy V (iPhone - yeah... the graphics of the characters have an odd feeling to them... but everything else looks AMAZING and the audio is fantastic. I wish they made it in the same style as I, II and IV on PSP but oh well... it still is far better than the PSOne version)
Final Fantasy VI (iPhone - same note as for V)
Final Fantasy VII (haven't decided on PC or PSOne version. I have both... if anybody has a suggestion as to which is superior, let me know!)
Final Fantasy VII - Crisis Core (PSP)
Final Fantasy VII - Dirge of Cerberus (PS2)
Final Fantasy VII - Before Crisis (I'm not sure if I'll get to play this one as I haven't looked to see if there's an english version and whether there's even a way to play it; I hope I can though)
Final Fantasy VIII (PSOne as it's the only console for it)
Final Fantasy IX (PSOne - I've already beat it before and it's my favourite FF game, but I HAVE to play through it again. Haven't played it since I first beat it in 2000)
Final Fantasy X (PS2 - I wish I could play the new HD version as it got a true HD treatment unlike almost every other "HD" remake of other games)
I'm not sure if I'll be playing X-2, I will likely play XII but it will be the International Edition with the Zodiac Job System if I do play it. I'm also not sure what -if any- spin-off games I'll play. I do need to still beat Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2 as well as the DS and PSP ones, however (and I know people will hate me for this) I really wasn't a fan of the battle system and found it hard to push through the first one. I only made it through the Alice in Wonderland level and that was as far as I got. I do want to finally beat it once and for all though.
I doubt I'll play the Crystal Chronicles games... however I do like Tactical RPGs, however the only series of TRPGs I've ever actually beaten games for is Disgaea. I beat 1, 2 and 3; all on my Vita (I played them for PS2 and played them on DS, PSP) but I didn't 100% them until I finally put 1 and 2 on my vita and just played for 200~ hours each - as well as the remake for vita of 3. I really want to get the Disgaea 4 remake now but I am broke and the charger for my Vita got destroyed by my damn cats... so I can't afford a new charger OR the game. I really find it hard to play other TRPGs thanks to that series though... because I'm more into the massive amounts of level grinding/finding the quickest possible way to level; as well as the item collection, cool character creation system and the many other awesome things that you only find in Japanese RPGs. I would like to play Final Fantasy Tactics (The War of the Lions version for PSP or iPhone likely, since that is a remake of the first if I'm not mistaken?) and then Final Fantasy Tactics Advance and A2. I also have XIII and XIII-2, don't plan on buying Lightning Returns as I only got about 30% through XIII and was so damn bored I stopped playing it... It is phenomenal as a movie - but that's it. It's a video game in one of the best RPG series, yet it has nothing that made the previous FF games so amazing. X was the last game in the series I truly enjoyed, but it was the first one that made me start to feel like the series was drifting into a direction that was disappointing.
Man I have gone on WAY too long... this was supposed to be a quick reply to explain what I got from the concept of the Cloud of Darkness; then it turned into a massive post about the series as a whole -.-

山岡アンドリュ Wow, didn't know you were such a huge fan of Final Fantasy. In all honesty though, Final Fantasy isn't my favorite RPG series. That title goes to Dragon Quest, and for good reason. Not only did Dragon Quest literally define the JRPG genre, it was also what inspired Final Fantasy (Hironobu Sakaguchi's failing career in video games is also a factor, but the idea of making a JRPG came from Dragon Quest). The first 8 games in the series are currently being ported to Androids and iOS devices, and you should check this petition out:

You know; I've actually really been wanting to finally sit down and play through that series as well. I really was enjoying Dragon Quest V on my DS - I'll have to figure out what versions are the best ones to play through (unless you have suggestions?) - I also am DEFINITELY going to check out the iOS ports too. I do have VIII for my phone just have yet to play it; but I'm going to check out the others. I was a little concerned with the portrait layout for the screen in DQVIII for the phone though. I think I'll likely just play the PS2 version since I have that as well.
I would really love to see Dragon Quest X here though too. I am curious how it is compared to other MMOs. Once I beat Final Fantasy IV: The After Years I'll likely take a bit of a break for a few days since I just beat 2 - 4: The Complete Collection in a little short of two weeks. I definitely need a quick break before I push through V, VI, VII and VIII. I'll definitely be rebeating IX and X afterwards but those will be played in between sessions of likely the Dragon Warrior/Quest games. I'm also rebeating Final Fantasy I for PSP in Japanese since I've been learning Japanese for awhile now and am now using games to help learn. It certainly makes it more fun - although you learn a lot of things that aren't exactly useful in everyday speech :P Luckily I'm mostly learning Japanese to play imported video games anyway! haha

Personally, I think it’s not 5 enough.
The Cloud of Darkness boss looks like a challenge that I probably would fail a few times before going well. It’s Particle Beam is ridiculously OP!

The main challenge in this battle is to keep up with the extreme damage that FlareWave does to your whole party - of course, this is fairly easy if you throw Cure4 spells on the characters on every turn.
@Peter_1986 even then it's not easy. Turn order matters a lot and turns are 100% random in ff3. Single target cure4 is the best way to handle it. Or you can stack safe to take very little damage. The problem is the item menu bug that cancels all buffs. However getting a bad turn order makes this fight really difficult regardless of spamming cure 4 or not
when you think about it, Cloud of Darkness speaks of the void. thinking too much on it, exdeath from ff5 has a desire to do the same but on a much larger scale. cloud of darkness wanted to destroy the world with the void. exdeath wanted to destroy everything. since he was also able to master the void, maybe he had sent cloud of darkness to other worlds eons past in their timelines.

I disagree with Exdeath being able to master the Void because as far as i know, the Void devoured Exdeath which meant the Void made Exdeath its Vessel thus Neo Exdeath is actually The Void not Exdeath himself( Or should i say itself? Exdeath is a being created by man's evil deeds so there is no need for gender but whatever).
And yes he may have controlled the power of the Void but not to its full extent because the Void is still too powerful to control for Exdeath and as a result he got engulfed by the Void.
Dont touch my kokoro pls i have to agree with you exdeath wouldn't be able to master the void just channel it. And the CoD is the collective will of the void personified, wich would mean that the CoD is many time stronger than exdeath and canonicly possibly the second strongest "being" in the ff series as a whole.
@@thijsvanruissen1800 if she was the collective will of the void how come she dosen't just engluf the onion knights into the void rather than casting flare wave. You have no proof that she's stronger than exdeath as he actually DID engulf half the world into the void

This game's soundtrack used the DPCM channel wisely to play a short impulse simulating the attack of the percussions. This way, the soundtrack sounded better and at the same time it didn't take space on the cartridge for samples.

I beat her on my reproduction cartridge by having my Shaman cast cure4 on the entire party, my sage cast cure4 on the one character who's closest to death, having my warlock cast flare, and then attacking her with my knight. That made it a lot easier and a lot less luck based. Her only attack meant nothing to my characters using that strategy.
I beat Cloud of Darkness on my very first try, however at first I tried using the Shurikens but after seeing “nothing happens” in the text box I didn’t understand and thought they were equippable before watching this video. Don’t get me wrong I have lots of Final Fantasy experience and didn’t know you have to set them on your hands during battle, my characters kept dying and I kept reviving them to full and dealing damage in the process. This is the 9th game so far in the series that I played. FF6 is my fav, FF8 is my 2nd fav, FF5 is my 3rd favorite. I’m so glad I got to experience Square’s last NES Installment which pushed the NES to it’s absolute limit, you could tell by this Final Boss theme that they wanted to end off with Bang!
I can't think of the game that push limitations of NES/Famicom more than FFIII
Maybe only Metal Slader Glory could be compared to this game by technological level.
Maybe not it all technical aspects, but at least in sound design and overall visuals, I can't think of a game that pushed as much as Castlevania 3
What was your average level here? I powered through at ~46 but had to save a bunch of times, didn't prepare with the proper spells and forgot about my shuriken lol. Won with one guy left.

You used the same strategy as me but I am a little bit weaker in my save, its more an endurance test if you have 2 characters healing and cast haste in the healers.
Strong status are a need in this battle, she removes 2000 hp after each hit on my party.

The SNES was coming out, so instead of getting the actual FF2 and FF3, we got FF4 and it was renamed to FF2 and then we got FF6 and it was renamed to FF3
Can someone confirm to me that the Safe spell greatly reduces her attack, making her a joke? I did this when playing, three safes and she was doing 1 damage. But I was playing a hack called FF III Redux. Reading the hack notes I found nothing saying about changing this or something.
That must have been a hack. I've used Safe before in this battle and it just cuts the damage in half.
Just finished this. I'm glad I played the NES version instead of one of the remakes, which change everything around...stats, enemy moves, etc. I only want to play the original game as the developers intended it to be.
Saving those 4 Dark Warriors can inflict 20000 Damage (5000 each D. Knight) to Cloud of Darkness.

I like this boss theme it sounds so seductive.
Too bad Haste doesn't work well with Shuriken. After throwing the Shuriken under Haste, manually re-equipping them will erase any buffs you have for your Ninja, including Haste. If you want to use Haste, I'd recommend sticking with the other elite weaponry. Otherwise, hitting the Cloud with double Bahamut - falling back with Cure4 - and two servings of Shuriken is a great start!
I noticed that as well when recently revisiting this game for the first time in forever. Except for me, it was because I was occasionally swapping in shields to boost my defense for a turn or two if needed, such as against a boss if I needed some extra defense while healing (I didn't have a white mage, so healing sometimes needed all the help it could get).

Many people will disagree with me, but I think the 3d version of this track sounds so much better
This version was so much better than the 3DS remake simply due to it not forcing personalities onto the characters (also I wasn't all that partial to the style the remake had)

That Knight should be a Ninja too, get some Shurikens for both.
Change your Shaman and M. Knight onto Sages and get Cure4, Life2 spells and the Bahamut summon.
I would recommend at least LV. 50-52 for the party.

Lo venci usando Magia [Haste] de los (Sages) le sacaba de daño 9999 con el ataque de los ninjas.

I did this with out shurikens and had to let two of my party members die. So that I coild focus on jy strongest member using my sage with cure 4s, hastes, and elixirs and my levels were 48-49

@@Roc6913devouts cannot summon or use black magic, it is not their function because they only use white magic, but the sages use invoke, black magic and also white magic (3 in 1).

When I played that final battle
None of that four died
That Ninjas Should be Attackers
Then Sages Should do only the buffing and healing
Sages should do only heal after they are done with the buffering those ninjas with haste and wall
The Sage should heal the 2 ninjas in a turn then the sages themselves in the next turn
(Do this repeatedly until she died)
casting cure4 in only one person can make his HP full
+emptyheart0101 Wall + Cure4 even works in the first fight (sometimes), although I usually do try the group healing. It's great practice for the final boss fight.
