    Hi everyone - if there's an airstrip you think should be added to Airfield Guide (typically non-paved and with recreational value), you can reach out to Dave Powell at dpowell@theraf.org! The guide is growing all of the time, so it would be neat to see some recommendations come from the community and get added to the site.

    I'v used that guide for many flights. The rating system is very accurate and tells you the dangers and the strips to avoid. It also gives you helpful hints.

    I love being based out of northwest Arkansas (kvbt). I was at triggers gap yesterday. It really is a great place to live and fly. Hopefully I’ll run into you one of these days. This is a great resource!

    Eric, in AR Trigger Gap and Richland Creek are two great strips that have had Cirrus's in and even some Twins! A Cessna 320 came in on our Pavilion build to help. You can filter strips by length and difficulty. Dave

    Right on! I fly UH-60's in the Central Texas area and we're always looking out for cool spots for training. There's not a ton of airfields listed out that way yet but I'll certainly keep an eye on this!

    Not much in SE TX (yet...). I'm still a renter so can't fly into grass strips, but I'm hoping to contact some of the private paved runways in the area to get permission for at least a touch and go just to add them to my list of airfields visited.

      Hi Eric - they try to chart mainly non-paved strips with recreational use. AOPA has a nice trip planning tool to search for airports that have certain amenities (golf, food, camping, etc.) on the field or nearby. You might check that out, too.

    I just got my ppl yesterday so woot, but i am curious could you do a video on how you get in and out of other airports. for example my cross-country's i would go to them and eat at the restaurant at the airport, but what if i wanted to leave the airport and get back in. i know my badge only works at my local airport but how do people get in and out of other airports. I did ask my instructor but i had looked for videos on that with no luck and always been curious.

      Typically for badged airports with security you’ll go in and out of the FBO. They will have a locked door that they can let you through and get to your plane on the ramp. Many will waive some or all fees if you buy fuel. I always do this at Boeing Field which has a locking perimeter fence.

      Often the gate code is the CTAF frequency. IE:1228 for 122.8.

      Oh, and congratulations!! 🎉🎉

    • @AirplaneAcademy
      @AirplaneAcademy  3 роки тому +2

      Congratulations! That's so awesome. In general, if you park on a GA ramp it might not be gated and you can just walk on and off the airport. Sometimes you'll need to go through a GA terminal. Commonly you might be parking at an FBO and you go in and out of the airport that way. Many airports have courtesy cars to use also if you need to leave for a bite etc. I like to look ahead at the airport and see where I'll be parking, and sometimes I'll even look at it on Google satellite and try to get an idea for where the GA parking is, where the fuel pump is, etc.

    Unique means “one of a kind”. You can’t be super one-of-a-kind…. You’re either one of a kind or not. There are no degrees of one of a kindness. Pilots need to be precise. Or so one would think, even if the English language is not your specialty.

    • @elmoreglidingclub3030
      @elmoreglidingclub3030 3 роки тому +2

      Interesting. But I think “one-of-a-kindness” and “super” might be somewhat correlated with the standard deviation of the category. Even things we consider perfectly unique like, say, an atom is unique but vary in being “super” or not based on their valence. Losing or gaining electrons doesn’t make them any more or less that specific element; it just changes their reactivity and usefulness for some purpose.
      In this case, there are many guides to airports but this one is both unique and super. It is unique because it focuses on airstrips for recreational flyers and it is super because it has a hefty amount of very useful, anecdotal information about each strip.
