0:50 I was an instant sub. I'm here for the timber frame. I'm staying for the wood boat restoration 3:51 sad face emoji.. still gonna watch for a different perspective, approach, and thought process.
I see this video is 5 years old but I just want to say it's an awesome job my friend. You have a great attitude in doing your work and darn good at it. I've just seen your boat - WOOOOOW. That's one heck of a beautiful boat. Take care and continue the awesome work. Steve
Peter, this is for me, one of those videos I have too, watch, watch and watch again. I can use my imagination to see what you see, the smell of fresh timers, boards, perhaps even the tools in my hand including the vibration in arm, that feel of power & when the tool loads and struggles. Growing up on a Midwest farm, we built many things. Bridge planks recycled, using a horse-shoe magnet over every in for 12 inch nails, rail road cross-ties cut, notched and chiseled flat as finished with the block plane. Those memories allowed me to experience and live your project. People say “Stop and Smell the Roses”, but I disagree as the lumber-timber and the aroma after a large cut. My wife of 40 yrs, just said two days ago “Let’s build a car port”, although I had been thinking “Car Port” for weeks prior! Perhaps I invaded her seams but you Peter, have giving the energy. My mind will be elsewhere regardless of the fast at hand. I will sleep with a smile. In Nebraska, our footings are 4 foot deep. I saw the tar paper/water proofing material although I am not sure about the hole and bolt. I think a bar of steel (1/4” X 1”) the width of the timber thru a narrow mortise then a hole & nut. Got to think more, code dictates a lot. Absolutely excellent design, execution, tool usage, equipment use and the star of the show, the timbers. Really enjoyed the video, clearly spoken and you smile that screams “Hey, it’s work, but I am enjoying it” “Where’s my brew”? Construction, fabricating and finished. Something you can say, I helped built that! Retired auto tech, all brands, all repairs. Thank you!
Great Job to you Peter and your team... You guys made it look easy. I built one at my cabin and I picked up a few new techniques from your build in the event I build another one. Whether it's restoring a boat, building a structure, or rehabbing a trailer, working with your hands is always a good thing. Thanks for the videos.
Enjoyed this episode very much even though it was a departure form your regular videos. Very nice craftsmanship on the carport. The way you lifted the heavy beams up to the tops of the posts by sliding them up with temporary supports was genius. Never seen that before.
My two favorite things, wooden boats and timber frame/post and beam. I’m glad UA-cam suggested this for me. Sometimes their algorithm does work. You have some great tips.
got to say that engine in the timber delivery truck sounded sweet, like the beam jacks great idea, I had a boat that had Douglas fir planking amazing timber it was
What a great video, I have learned more from this then dozens of post and beam videos. I have completely changed my path forward on my post and beam garage to beam stacking and fasteners... wow.
I’ve been watching your boat stuff for a few months and really enjoyed it and then searched back and found your house building, this is just as good as this old house and they use 15 cameras.
Nice build. I would kill to have your life. Where you live, what you do. Working with wood, working on boats, being near the water. Building beautiful things. I am stuck in super ugly alberta, in a dying marriage, and worst of all due to an accident, i am now handicapped and not able to work with the wood anymore......... You are a very fortunate man. I have subscribed
Excellent job Peter, I have a Similar post and beam carport but the carpenter ants are taking over. I haven’t any luck stopping them. I will try rock salt around the post bases. Wish me luck. Your many talents are showing!! Take care,
So incredibly awesome how yall got that beam lifted to the top of the posts. How smart. Glad to happen upon your channel. Am just getting started working with wood and building. Am in Hope to build my own front porch. Thanks for your happy inspiration.
Ok I do not watch because I am a boat nut,I don't watch because I want a shirt, nor to listen to another talk.I watch because of all of it together and you have a beautiful way of putting it all together as ONE.I saw the first episode and promptly binge watched and subscribed long ago and I must say I am hooked. You just keep going and I will be there boat/carport/outhouse? All good. Now "gimme my shirt" lol.
Metal Carports were a big hit in my area untl the heavy ice and snow that they would collapse under. Awesome carport, beautiful weather, vintage automobiles and cold beer to boot.Who could ask for anything more. ☮
The Renaissance Man of you tube. Airstreams, Motor Yachts, and Timber Frame construction. Quality in every endeavor. Always upbeat and informative. Much appreciate your videos Sir!
Hit the like button after you did the footing and said it was time for a beer. Pretty neat I watch a lot of building videos but nothing for boats. Well I might subscribe just to see what else you do. Well done thank you.
Woodworking and old Land Rovers😁 What's not to like? Good one👍 You should make videos of neighboring Land Rovers. Out and about vintage Land Rovers with Peter.
@@CobyMcConnell I made a set for my project and used 2x10 with threaded rods. I made two holes in each board 1/4" (on-center) less than the dimension of my 8x8 green post. Both holes were place about an inch away from the edge of the 2x10 at opposite edges. You do have to be careful because SOMETIMEs, the clamp hits a sweet-spot and it slips down if there's no weight on it. Under load, they worked great!
I’m not sure if I’m sending this off correctly though I enjoy your show because I enjoy watching boats being restored and your work is so far superior to any so thank you sir I hope you give us a really good look at your boat and zyphrilus when you are done thank you sir
You had me with the walking beam clamps. Subscribed at the scissor lift ride. PLEASE point me to these beam clamps... how to make or where to buy. They would be useful right now for me.
The saw tip was interesting. Doing end cuts I try to make the cut with the wide part of the saws sole to the inside. For me the saw then seems less tippy. I’ll give your tip a try.
real cool makes sense . i was addicted to giant tools before also. kind of shifting into lam ply wood . now . im old (it happens ) anyway really liked your vid. make sense and fun. also your dog looks nice.
I really like your truck and almost got one with the full hard top that was completely restored for 10k but didn't do it. That was about 13 years ago. Oh well, live and learn. I am looking for one now and will eventually find one. Matt has a similar truck to what I almost got but the one I was looking at, had a metal roof and was a bit longer.
Great looking job. We have the Amish around when growing up saw barn raising and many post and beam houses. Music and I now in St Augustine for a while. as always Peter your jobs are brilliant .time for a beer cheers
Thanks Dana. I would love to be at a genuine barn raising!St Augustine! Go say hi to Kourtney and Pete from Accidental Sailor Girl. Their boat is in Maine but they sound like neat people.
The walking clamp idea is brilliant, will definitely be trying it out. Awesome build 👍
Right! Moment he said what they were I knew they were going to be brilliant

Yikes, sorry about that. Cost constraints.
The ‘Tree Stand’ method of lifting beams was worth the entire video. Amazing.
Moments like 5:00 is why I love your videos. I never know what I might see and learn when I click play.
Thanks again!

Love the walking clamps. Should have explained how you made them! Nice work...
Really enjoyed
Excellent straight cut tip.

❤ those Land Rovers!!
Love ‘em!
Keep up with all types of projects. I started with watching the Landover project and have loved every one.
Thanks, watch out then, you never know what I'll get up to...
Very nice. Nice to get a glimpse of your day job.
Thanks, actually my day job is mostly design and no one wants to watch me at a computer all day. This was a fun diversion.
Good to see a change in using your builder skills.
Nice to work with big timber sometimes.

Lovely wood isn't it.
@@TravelsWithGeordie Yes it is, the boat was 40 years old and when I fitted a extra skin fitting the planking was full of resin
Also great idea on the post walkers! Cheers!
Nice job

Awesome attention to detail, awesome personality, very informative, and highly enjoyable video. Thank you.
Always enjoy watching a master wood worker at work, but I have to say I did miss the boat work. Can't wait till next week!!!!
Thanks again, but that's too generous. I am far from a master wood worker. Just relatively handy, that's all.
A man of many talents. Like you said it's woodworking, I like it.
Thanks Milt

That's a beauty! Nice job, wish it was on my property.
That looks great. Could really go for one to keep my 101 and 88 tucked up under.
Thanks, ooooh a 101, ooohhh….
Great job Peter. Looks fantastic. Good tips to follow when I get to my carport project. Cheers!
Thank Ian, shoot some video of the build!
Sweet project. Need one of those built too.
How did you make those little braces you could move up the beam….that was awesome

Love the carport Peter, looks really usable, well done
Thank you Andrew.
Great video. Measurements of all would have made this video really great.
Gorgeous project.
Great Video! You make it look easy with your master craftsman skills. More Please...
Thanks so much Bob. But you are too kind. A master craftsman I'm not, just fearless.
Interesting build, thanks for sharing.

Would you please make a video for making and how to use the walking clamps?
Love your work Peter mate!!!

Awesome!
Thanks Bob.
This is the style I wanted for my gazebo and wondering how I would put the beams up as doing it all myself. Got some great tips, thank you!
Did it work? I have to assemble a carport soon and trying to figure ways to get big beams up
Looks awesome Peter!! Can’t wait for more boat videos though!
Thanks, you won't be waiting long!
That cement truck is the coolest!
Neat eh?

Nice to see that I'm not the only one who has to do other projects in between boat work.
Thanks Ken, Gotta feed the addiction.....

Great build you gave me some good ideas!!
Awesome job 👍🏻 I enjoy watching a master do what they do best keep up the great videos Peter !!!
Thanks so much James.
Hi Peter. Construction is my business too here in Ireland. Fantastic looking carport. Very sweet! Sean
