A good friend recently bought a Guerrilla and he let me have a go. Loved it. Goes really well, super comfortable, I don’t get the vibes thing mentioned here? Maybe on a motorway or whatever but upto about 60mph when I rode it it was remarkably smooth, IMHO anyway. Can see exactly why they sell so well and the build quality looked terrific.

A lot of youtubers will talk about vibes, Like most of us have never ridden a shakey cheap, 125cc that rattled our teeth out 🤣 What they all mean when they mention it is "its not as smooth as a 4 cylinder motor". It seems to be the thing they all mention since manufacturers moved to big singles and parallel twins.

Nice vid. Seems like a decent little machine & nice colour scheme too. I'm really liking the increased effort manufacturers seem to be putting in to smaller bikes more recently. Although, as a general point, I'd still like better quality adjustable suspension & higher spec brakes, but I appreciate it's a balancing act with price. Nonetheless, t's not all about power. I've had several 150bhp bikes & imo 40+bhp is ample if its in a light bike with a decent chassis, suspension & brakes. I think there's also a relatively untapped market for A2 power level bikes (

  • @PAGallagher

I've had mine (in Playa Black) for just over 2 months and have done just over 2000 miles. Personally, I think it's great in all respects and one of the better handling bikes I've owned. I wanted a naked single that was engaging to ride on twistie A and B roads and has a slight old skool look, and this ticks all the boxes for me ....... I love that sloping cylinder and even though it's a water cooled lump, it still has echoes of a sixties British bike (Panther, Tiger Cub etc) which is what I cut my teeth on. Regarding vibes, they are almost non-existent on my bike and no issue at all but you still feel like you're riding a biggish single which is exactly what I wanted 👍 A lot of, so say, bikers seem to want a bike that's as comfortable and smooth as a car ....... my advice would be, get a car or a Goldwing! 😊Good review, Mr Bob, I ride quite a few of the roads that you ride, Mendips etc, interesting roads. Cheers, Phil

May just come down to availability. I live in a large city in TX and you can get RE from at least 3 dealers where we only have one option for Triumph, and as someone who got a 400x from them... it's not the greatest.
Other than that, maybe accessories. The 400s dont have a ton of options, though slowly growing, but I imagine these will have more options available.

I bought a 350 Meteor a few years back and it has been great, I did a mountain tour in Thailand 2 up when it was new and that was the one weakness. My next run is southern Thailand without the mountains so it should be good. I have been contemplating a 40 bhp bike for a while now, as is my friend who has that barge called a Honda Forza, a bloody awful bike. Next year we may both have either a Triumph Speed or one of these.

I haven’t ridden one of these or a Himalayan and I currently ride a Honda CB500F. What I like about this bike over the Honda, is the reduced weight ,extra agility around town . Also being a single cylinder 450 the cheaper servicing costs. I don’t like the too small fuel tank, which is a styling overkill in my opinion. I wonder if you could fit a Himalayan tank? I’d try. I’d try to fit the aftermarket bikini fairing I have on the Honda and the Givi topbox or failing that the Enfield one.
I’m getting to the stage where I just do urban commuting with a bit of motorway riding.

I bought a Speed in April and its a very good small capacity bike i commute on it when the weathers decent to keep miles off the car and enjoy the back roads.
I think this answers some of the weaknesses of the Triumph that being a centre stand theres not even bobbin mounts on the Speed, the front mudguard is much more functional the rad on my speed gets quite dirty.
The instrument TFT screen on the top versions is a big plus.
RE missed a trick with the tank capacity though and the radiator looks stuck on as an afterthought not integrated in.
I like the chain being on the opposite side to the exhaust of the RE thsts got to ma ke maintenance easier though the Speed has the edge on service intervals though not too many folk will do 10k pa i feel .
I have a Triumph dealership in my city there is an RE one 8 miles away better than Honda and modt other marques 30plus miles away.
The Speed is a bit low geared for my taste and the small screen accessory is not much use plus all accessories have taken far too long to get to customers.
Theres a couple of niggles with the control electronics too immobilser light on currently and the kill switch has operated with no input from myself tho am sure RE will have teething issues.
Speed us better looking but will need some colour varity soon i really like the RE playa black.

I'm not sure about the styling, the tank doesn't look quite right probably due to the tall engine. I would have to say the the Triumph looks nicer. Also the road tax is half the price on the Triumph so possibly cheaper running costs? I'm glad RE have made it, but in many ways I think they should of developed their air cooled engines to give around 30bhp which probably would be enough to give them the occasional highway speed capability. I guess they feel they have done that with the classic 650 twin but a 30bhp single would still be nice, especially at a competitive price. I suppose you could buy a Honda 350 now they have released them on the European market as at least it has a bit more top speed than the RE350's with the same classic looks.

I think personally that the RE will have better reliability over the Speed 400. I read some horror stories already regarding the Triumph 400.

I can attest to this. I own an Interceptor and my brother owns the Triumph Scram 400X. My Interceptor has the usual niggles like the infamous battery drain issue and the wobbling front wheel but apart from that its holding up well since 1.5 years. The bolts have not rusted, nothing has come loose either.
The Triumph on the other hand has issues with the immobilizer, the speedo became non functional within a year, bolts have started to rust, paint chipping on the handle bar ends, chain picks up rust in a few miles even after lubing, unexpected engine stalls even after firmware updates, etc.
Also both me and my brother have similar riding styles and maintain the bikes pretty similarly too so there's that.

Love the stuff that Royal Enfield has been doing of late. As a style exercise and total package, I think I like the Guerrilla 450 and Bear 650 bikes the best. I'd probably prefer the twin cylinder the most, for smoothness, sound, and grunt.

Good review! I just want to give my opinions. I've own more than 26 motorcycles, did test-rides 100'ths of motorcycle.
From motorscooter to hypersport. Also the Duke 390, the vitpilen 401, meteor 350 and tested alnlot of bikes. Last week I've tested the guerrilla 450 and a nice bike but I don't want to have it.
    A couple points why not.
    - the first gear is pinched. If you open the throttle it hold back. Seems to be by mapping for beginners that you can't have the full power immediately.
    - the throttle is too sensitive. For my opinion a lot on/off. So when you ride it with a passenger the helmets will collide now and then. When you riding alone the same. It drives more easy than a Duke 390 for sure. But it remains a single cilinder. I've test ridden a CB500Hornet and CL500 afterwards and I love the engine character more. More smooth to ride.
    - and you can not discuss colors and tastes but what have they done with the colors. 😮 There is a monotone color coming up (purple brown with with royal Enfield written on it. Much better).
Royal Enfield did a good job to jump on the water-cooled engines but as well with the Himalayan they have some homework to do. It was the same with the Duke 390. I've bought the first coming out version and drove the same bike years later and it was better in the mapping. So Royal Enfield, I love it but the new engines need some more attention to be better build.
    - and I would change the tires. Especially when you'll ride just and alone on concrete roads.
Again, just my thoughts and opinion. 🙂

The rear brakes are squeezing down and stopping the wheel from freely spinning, worsening the mileage. Please check the quality of brakes and turn the rear wheel to check the play. Very thirsty bike, cant travel long distance, need a gas tank to take with you always

On this bike, 5 things are deal breaker for me:-
    1) 11-litre tank.
    2) the TFT screen
    3) no usd forks
    4) is the inclusion of centre stand
    5) no traction control

1.) It does get like 3.5L/100km though
      2.) Too modern I guess?
3.) USD or not doesn't matter too mich as long as they are adjustable
4.) That could legit be annoying, but therr are probably aftermarlet options or RE even offfer one as extra option
5.) At 40ish hp, TC is a bit overkilll IMO. Maybe good to have to pouring rain or almost freezing temps
I would suggest riding it some time. Lots of these hurdles can become invisible after time

      1) 11-litre tank is less compared to its rivals as 11-litre is like using a 500ml water bottle that you have to fill thrice on your way to your destination or for touring. Which kinda limits your long distance touring.
      2) it's not about modern. The thing is you have keep your phones' display on if you are connecting to that TFT screen. Cause if it gets screen locked, it gets disconnected. Like for example, cars have android auto or Apple car play. You connect it via Bluetooth and can operate it while your phone's screen is locked. That's not the case for RE's TFT screen as you have to keep the phone's screen on which results in severe battery drain.
      3) To me, going from RSUs to USDs is called an upgrade and going from USDs to RSUs is a downgrade. Sure, USDs are expensive compared to RSUs but some rivals do offer USDs as an advantage.
      4) If it were an adv or had tube tires, then mainstand would make sense. Adding mainstand just makes it more heavier. Why have it on a roadster?
      5) Traction control is a must have cause the tires are least gripy. In dry, alright but in wet, you'll be skidding alot.
Lastly Please note, I've taken the test drive and I'm sharing my opinion with what I felt about the bike. And I'm not spreading any hate towards the bike.
