    Just left a dealership earlier today. Hyundai venue, 23,365 msrp. 2k mark up & 2k in add ons(1k paint protection, 500 for nitrogen in tires, 500 for brake lights to blink 3 times when hitting brakes). So 23,365 went to 27,365. 17% over msrp. Dealer gave us two options, 8.99% at msrp or 5.99% with 4k over. They would not budge on giving us the lower rate without the add ons(which weren’t even installed yet). Totally crazy. Walked out.

    In the case of the parts that were replaced and upgraded, you should also get the original of those parts that are included in the MSRP. This is probably especially important for the wheels. I'm sure the original wheels are pretty valuable in their own right and you're paying for them. Same with the original shift knob, etc.

      Yeah, good point - I've never purchased optional OEM style wheels, or shift knobs etc, but yes theoretically you'd have trunk load of original parts when you buy this thing. Good thing it's a hatch back! Honestly, and if you were to purchase the wheels say, 3 months down the road, it's not like there's a core charge on the wheels- so yeah you should be getting all those parts they took off, including the valve stem caps.

    local Subaru dealer boasting about selling at MSRP. Have a car on the way (waiting months due to supply shortage) - they keep asking if I wanna buy a cancelled order that's come in earlier than mine....but twice now they've said there are extra options on there: Ceramic Coating, rust coating, under coating, interior seat protection +$2400.
    For the first one offered, I was in the dealership and I heard one salesman saying that car was going for ceramic tomorrow "because the customer cancelled their order" and then when my saleslady offered me the car, she said the ceramic is already on it.
    So my takeaway is that they're putting extras on (that you can't ask them to remove), which have high profit margin, so they can build them into the price. Basically forcing extra on clients. I'm willing to bet the client who cancelled, didn't order them at all. Plus why not offer the cars BEFORE they add these options? Because they're being sneaky. I'm starting to feel dirty/violated every time I talk to a dealer...uuugghhh

      @scottr2706 Рік тому

      Not double dipping.
      It is an additional wheel package which includes the wheels with TPMS and the tires. It is an accessory listed on the Acura website which the buyer may purchase. This dealer has simply added this accessory package to the vehicle at the dealership. To this dealer what the buyer wants or does not want is not relevant. The MSRP for this accessory is $2,691 or $2,791.
      The real issue is the dealer's addendum to the MSRP does not, as Ray noted, specify the manufacturer's MSRP of the products listed. A smart buyer can go to the Acura website and figure out the MSRP for those items which are actual Acura products. Such as the listed MSRP for the tire package noted above.

From online search: “Do I need new TPMS sensors when I get new wheels? Then we sale it the next guy at full price! You are on the right track...it's not the dealers you should be MAD AT , it's the people paying full price when you won't. If everyone refused then yes eventually the price will fall, but where I am they sale out before even arriving at a $5,000 MARKUP

      @@DarthNero Exactly. What many people, unfortunately, fail to realize is a car is a commodity. A Family Trruckster with the ultra leather package is the same car regardless of which dealership is selling it and Family Truck Motors makes tens of thousands of them. There is no reason to get emotionally attached to any specific car, if you don't get this one, there are plenty more our there just like it.

    I don't want to see a "repair order". I want the car the way I want the car and without all this dealer-installed BS. If I ask for something I am happy to pay for it. If I don't ask for it it's on the dealer, not me. If the dealer doesn't like that, I'm perfectly happy to walk away.
    This is why people hate buying cars from dealers. There's a better model and buying from dealerships is not it.

      The sad part is, they probably sold off the factory wheels, then charged for the new wheels, plus the customer is paying for the original wheels in the window sticker. I always look at the sticker and compare it to the vehicle sitting in front of me. If something doesn't match, I ask. I leased a 2014 Fusion and never paid attention to the sticker. The car was red with the silver 18" wheels. About halfway through my lease, I received a recall notice from Ford regarding the wheels. There were specific wheels (I think it was related to the black painted wheels) that the coating was failing and Ford was offering to replace the wheels...I just had to choose my new style from the brochure. I took the notice to the dealer because the notice said I had the black wheels on the car, but mine were silver. It turns out that before I leased the car, another customer was buying another Fusion with the silver wheels, but they wanted the black wheels that were on my car, so they swapped them. The service manager tried telling me that I got the better wheels out of the deal. When I looked at my window sticker, there was a premium for the black wheels and the silver wheels were standard. Not only will I not buy from them again, I always pay attention.

    I put a CAM price on my trade in. Customer Adjusted Markup. It just so happens to match the Dealer Adjusted Markup. I charge Doc fees too

    I call every Honda dealership near me. They all charge Market Mark Up fees. They all refuse to sell a car without Market Mark up fees.

    Isn’t a tire pressure monitoring system standard equipment now?

    Bought nice red valve stem covers for my RDX through Amazon for $10.00. Is not TPMS standard in the USA?

    • @VideoArchiveGuy
      @VideoArchiveGuy Рік тому

      It is. The 19" accessory wheels require the fitment of a new TPMS sensor for each wheel, as you cannot reuse the sensors from the factory wheels.
      Typically, TPMS sensors cost $50 - $100 per wheel themselves.

    All the dealers in my area dont want to sell single cab trucks at msrp. I just walked out of 1 yesterday that advertised a 2024 sierra regular cab at 38k with dealer discounts msrp is 40k they wanted 49k before tax and everything including financing.

    I’ve never paid over MSRP and never will. If the dealer won’t sell me that car at that price, I walk away. There are a lot of other dealers, and I tell them that!

    So the dealer is charging extra for the TPMS system that is built into the car as standard equipment? That’s fraud!
