I remember thinking this show was so kool as I didn't have much exposure to anime back in the early 90's. Sadly I only watched it 2 or maybe 3 times because at the time it was aired super early saturday mornings, maybe 5 or 6am following the dark stalkers cartoon and I was never the kind of person to stick with anything that involved waking up early. I had never forgotten it though. Watching this made me a bit nostalgic.
I watched robotech as a kid but I count this as my first real anime. I was a teenager when it came to the US and discovered it by accident when sitting around half drunk after an all night party. It came on so early where I lived I finally ended up setting up a VCR to tape the episodes and would watch them later. And for years my only access to this show were those tapes(starting around episode 3) and with only half the finale (the station messed up and was fading on and off the air for about half the episode). I was so happy when it aired on cartoon network and I could finally watch all of the last episode lol.
Ronin Warriors was my first time watching a true anime series from start to finish. Cartoons were all one offs. I had never seen a series actually end. I cried watching the last episode. Samurai Troopers got a great BluRay release. You have no idea how much detail is lost in the dark colors until you see the BluRay. I would love for the states to get a BlueRay of the show, but then the dub would not fit. I loved the Ocean Groups take on Ronin Warriors. The dub cut some footage, and added new sound FX. I do have faith that a company like DiscoTeck could find away around that. They fixed the English dubs the Street Fighter II anime to fit with the Japanese music and format.
Correction Samurai Troopers is getting a Bluray release in the US thanks to Discotek media, fully remastered picture quality and due to extensive remastering Ronin Warriors dub will be included. Check their twitter for all the details. Or Anime News network. Due out by the end of the year
Ronin Warriors is probably the most underrated anime of all time. Great action, straight to the point, good storyline and characters, and not overdoing it with humor. It’s an underdog show too, not too many people today know about it.
I loved Samurai Warriors (In Brazil this was the name) as a kid (I still have all the anime chapters on my HD :X). I had the luck to have the waves of the figures as a kid. In Brazil they broadcasted Samurai Warriors at the same time with Saint Seiya and some VA of Saint Seiya made Samurai Warriors charactes (Hector and Seiya were made by the same actor btw, almost the same cast was used in both animes) and this helped to launch the anime.
I remember watching this when it came out and thinks it was OK and seeing it again 4 or 5 years later and liking it a lot more. It is literally a cartoon I had not thought about in 20 years till this video.
Hah, in Brazil Samurai Troopers (or "Samurai Warriors" here) was broadcasted along Saint Seiya and Shurato in the mid 90's. The main hero Ryu/Hector had the same voice actor as Seiya.Good times watching it on Rede Manchete.
I love that Toy Galaxy can remind me of long forgotten shows! I remember Ronan Warriors, and now that I’m reminded of it, I now remember there was a thing called Record of Lodoss War! Great stuff!
WHAT... I 'm not even 3 seconds into this video and I' already getting emotional... Thanks for covering this. I'm sure I'll have more to say once I finish watching the vid!
Its coming out on remastered bluray from Discotek media in breath taking HD, it will include the complete Ronin Warriors dub too, be sure to snag a copy
Possibly the first anime series I ever got into. I remember seeing it air on some random channel that I can’t remember at 9 am. I watched it every chance I could that summer, but the problem was I had to return to school soon. I remember staying home from school one day and being able to see another episode. By the time I was able to stay home from school again, they had taken the series off! I never got to finish the series as a child! I was so disappointed! I’m glad this channel did a video on Ronin Warriors though as everyone I have talked to has never heard of this series!
In 1995 I was 14 and I had just got Samuari shodown for Sega and then that summer home from school one afternoon and Ronin warriors came on fox afternoon and absolutely loved it...had the dvd complete set of Ronin warriors since early 2000's
I remember loving this series right up to the point my mother found out the main villain was a demon. I never did get to see how the series ended but I was lucky enough to see the oh so sweet looking Inferno armor.
I remember watching this on Toonami back in the day. I was surprised that you did a video on this since I just talked about this with a friend and how I found their transformation sequence awesome.
wow I do vaguely remember this series! I think we had a couple of the toys? the one part I remember was the spring-loaded arms, I'd never seen anything like that in an action figure!! cool to hear the series did get some re-releases.
This was the first anime I had ever watched back in the 90's before dragonballz, wish this anime could get a update remake or reboot, cause this is still one of my favorite animes to watch
Love this show so much had the original and as an adult I currently have the collector grade figure from early 2000s never got a white blaze So needs a reboot!!! I didn’t even hate on the messages armors from the second try of the series they were as cool but I was will to get anymore of the story with those characters.
Talk about a trip down memory lane. There was a time in my life where I honestly believed that I IMAGINED this show because I couldn't remember the name or meet any other person who watched it. XD I appreciate this video for bringing it up alone. lol
OMG YES!!!!! Thanks for putting some respect on Ronin Warriors name!!! Saw it in the summer of 1995 in CT on channel 20. Still keep rewatching it with Anubis' character arc being my favorite and the Inferno Armor. I hated the OVA version though and the confusing non canon episodes after the original 39 episodes. But so much potential for either a reboot or a continuation to the original 39 episodes going forward but done right.
I remember watching RW on Channel 6 (forget the name) when I was a child. Years before it aired on Toonami. Used to wake up at 5am on Sunday's to catch it.
I remember the day I first saw this series. I was tuning in to the local UPN channel at 2PM on a Monday thinking I would watch King Arthur and the Knight of Justice when Ronin Warriors! It was the first time it aired in my area and was before the toys hit local shelves.
I remember waking up 4 or 5 am back in 1995 to watch this show before going to school on kcal 9 here in Cali. Absolutely loved it. One of my all time favorites.
Oh my god!! I was going to say in Latin America it was called Samurai Warriors and they all had hispanic names, which was really odd for the time (we usually got the japanese names, unless it went through the US first, like Robotech or G-Force), so the toy commercial blew me away.
I saw this anime a hundred time since I was 8 in Club Do, 31 years later, it's still and clearly with Saint Seiya one of my favorite Shonen ever. Fantastic soundtrack, the armors are just beautifully designed, the characters very stylish and endearing. The plot is simple but the story of the nine armors is great and have a lot of charm. The last SENTINEL figures are incredible and really pay tribute to Yoroiden Samurai Troopers. It's a dream comes true to have them in my figure collection!
@The Player Nice! I really didn't like the drastic change of the names in Spanish, but the voice actors were better in that version. Ryo sounded like a surfer from Nor Cal in the US version and Rowen sounded like he was from Boston or something. Hahaha
Yeah I watched this broadcast tv a while back. I think you would have to do like 3 separate videos to full explain every character in the show. Excellent job condensing the info.
This was my first exposure to anime at 10 years old, and has remained my absolute favorite for the last 26 years! Thanks for giving this series the attention it deserves!!!
Great episode about the figures for Samurai Troopers as this was why the series got cancelled in Japan because of the failure to sell them in Japan like Saint Seiya did. A significant series for anime, because it brought in a whole female demographic to anime.
I never heard of the show before until now. I might need to check it out when I get the chance. Also, do you think you can make a video on the history of Pokemon? I mean, with this year marking the 25th anniversary of the franchise, I think that would be the perfect time to do it.
I was so lucky to catch this during the original summer 1995 airing. Even had (spotty, incomplete) VHS recordings of it before getting the DVD collection several years later. It was the 2nd anime I ever watched (1st was Fushigi Yuugi) and will always be my favorite. And yes, my username is from the poem, referencing my favorite character from the show. My biggest regret was not getting the toys when I could, b/c "my best friend has them, I don't need them". Now here I am, an adult living far away and lamenting when those immaculate toys were widely available for only $5 each at KB Toys....
Loved this show as a kid. I remember watching it during summer vacation before or after Samurai Pizza Cats. I wish I picked up the series on DVD back in the day. It's just way too expensive now a days for me to get.
@@jasonelliott7977 Amazon has the Samurai Warriors boxset, which does not include the English dub. If you mean the individual DVDs, I'm not spending the $45+ per volume 3rd party sellers are asking for.
@@FunkatronicGeek If you mean Saint Seiya/Knights of the Zodiac, I only saw the original but plan on watching the newer versions once I finish some other shows.
@The Player For a localized name, it's the obvious choice. Which I guess is why it got pulled back for the reboot, _Knights of the Zodiac: Saint Seiya._
I LOVED THIS SHOW! It was paired with Sailor Moon weekday mornings on KCOP I believe. I actually didn't know of Saint Seiya till decades later and thought (at first glance) it was Ronin Warriors. This show was great to wake up to before school.
I remember when this first came out in the US it instantly became my favorite show. The name change for the white armor figure also really confused me.
Haa! i could never figure out why this wasn't such an Epic franchise like others from this era, on paper the different variables involved sound like they should add up to something Amazing but it never seemed to catch fire.🤷♂️ This however is another Great video 😄👍 "HAND SHARK!"
In the 90s, the Turtles would win. Now? They would just have a massive crossover with TMNT having Ronin's armor at some point. With matching action figures.
I remember watching this growing up and may of very well been my first anime i ever saw. Really loved it. Even debated once or twice making a ryu cosplay as tribute
I just asked about this. I love Robin warriors. Even tho, a lot of the footage was reused in a lot of episodes. It's a show where you can get into all the characters. All the heroes are pretty likeable, which makes it hard to have a "favorite". Sucks we never got a video games for it. The OVAs are really good too.
That was a flaw of a lot of 1980s cartoons. The cost of a making a half hour cartoon was (IIRC) $125,000, but people were only willing to pay $100k an episode. So they had to reuse a *lot* of footage to make the shows. That's 1/5 the total time, in fact. Run 8 minutes of ads so you only need to make 22 minutes of animation instead of 25, make a minute long opening and closing so you're down to 20 minutes per episode, and you can probably get away with only 2-3 minutes, max, of stock footage.
It was one of five shows that introduced me to anime; the others were DBZ, Sailor Moon, Gundam Wing, and Tenchi Muyo.
Same here!

Due out by the end of the year
@@kahndigifer7106 That is *awesome*
@@kahndigifer7106 I think I am psychic! I predicted the Blu-ray release! This is great news!
great news on the bluray front! but i HATE that new SFII dub!
Ronin Warriors is probably the most underrated anime of all time. Great action, straight to the point, good storyline and characters, and not overdoing it with humor. It’s an underdog show too, not too many people today know about it.
Straight to the point indeed haha. Dub is super interesting for its time
I loved Samurai Warriors (In Brazil this was the name) as a kid (I still have all the anime chapters on my HD :X).
@Sonic Hedgehog Hahaha é mt bom encontrar outro BR até em comentário do YT
your channel speaks to my 37 year old soul. You just unlocked some deep memories with this video lol
I remember watching this when it came out and thinks it was OK and seeing it again 4 or 5 years later and liking it a lot more. It is literally a cartoon I had not thought about in 20 years till this video.
Never thought I'd see a Ronin Warriors episode here. Nicely done Toy Galaxy, nicely done.
Watched this in Japan when I was there and again with my son in the US years later. Still have the figures from the show too. Really liked this one.
Thanks Dan, needed the Toy Galaxy fix today...!
WHAT... I 'm not even 3 seconds into this video and I' already getting emotional... Thanks for covering this. I'm sure I'll have more to say once I finish watching the vid!
I LOVED this show even though I could never catch a full episode. it came on at 6am and I could only wake up to the last 10 minutes
This was on really early on Saturdays, like 6am, but I still got up to watch it. I had two toys, Rowen and Talpa.
This brings back so many memories! My neighbor Tim and my self loved this show back in 95!
This show takes me back to Toonami after college classes.
Middle school for me.
Yes, that’s when I watched it, along with DBZ, and it was awesome!
Toonami with the wackass "5.5" time instead of just saying 5:30 used to drive me crazy.
Its coming out on remastered bluray from Discotek media in breath taking HD, it will include the complete Ronin Warriors dub too, be sure to snag a copy
I own this entire series plus the ova’s. This show single handedly introduced me to Anime.
Always impressed when you cover a show I never even heard of.
Omg yessssssss!!! My love for this channel burns like white hot fire!
In 1995 I was 14 and I had just got Samuari shodown for Sega and then that summer home from school one afternoon and Ronin warriors came on fox afternoon and absolutely loved it...had the dvd complete set of Ronin warriors since early 2000's
Man I used to love watching them back in the 90s as a kid good memories 🥲
Loved this series when I was about 13. The toys were really so awesome.
Love this show so much had the original and as an adult I currently have the collector grade figure from early 2000s never got a white blaze
So needs a reboot!!!
I remember catching this in UPN at 9am.
"Scream time? ...It's fine."
Stay classy, Mr. Larson.
"Hector, Tommy, Cesar, Jorge, Tristan!" Ahhh man, I loved the Mexican version
@The Player Nice! I really didn't like the drastic change of the names in Spanish, but the voice actors were better in that version. Ryo sounded like a surfer from Nor Cal in the US version and Rowen sounded like he was from Boston or something. Hahaha
Yesssss!! Been wanting this episode into existence real hard. Thank you!
This was a good anime! My brother and I loved it and we are re-watching it now!
Yeah I watched this broadcast tv a while back. I think you would have to do like 3 separate videos to full explain every character in the show. Excellent job condensing the info.
I loved Ronin Warriors as a kid. Rewatched it a few years ago and realized how cheesy it was LOL
This was my first exposure to anime at 10 years old, and has remained my absolute favorite for the last 26 years! Thanks for giving this series the attention it deserves!!!
It’s my favorite as well.
I smiled through this entire episode. 😊
Man, I loved this show as a kid. I used to record the episodes on VHS and watch them over and over again.
Great episode about the figures for Samurai Troopers as this was why the series got cancelled in Japan because of the failure to sell them in Japan like Saint Seiya did. A significant series for anime, because it brought in a whole female demographic to anime.
Man this use to come on KCAL Ch 9 in Southern California, I remember show fondly Thanks Dan.
Love this show to this day, it so needs a blu ray release
There is one. Released last year, IIRC. The picture and sound are amazing . It’s got both the English and Japanese as well!
Thought I was the only one that remembered them. Used to be my favorite show as kid. Thanks for bringing them up!!
Seriously one of my favorite animes of all time. I just wish the manga would get an official English translation.
The Astro Boy manga had an official English translation, by Dark Horse Comics of course.
I used to record every episode on USA at 9am weekdays and would run home to watch. Good show. It's on UA-cam full episodes.
Loved this show as a kid. I remember watching it during summer vacation before or after Samurai Pizza Cats. I wish I picked up the series on DVD back in the day. It's just way too expensive now a days for me to get.
Amazon Prime and UA-cam have it.
@@jasonelliott7977 Amazon has the Samurai Warriors boxset, which does not include the English dub. If you mean the individual DVDs, I'm not spending the $45+ per volume 3rd party sellers are asking for.
I have recently watched this series and really liked it! Nice coincidence! Keep up the good work!
Hot take, I prefer Ronin Warriors over KOTZ. But only just.
Edit: Also, when is Zoids, Dan? :3
Which version?
@@FunkatronicGeek If you mean Saint Seiya/Knights of the Zodiac, I only saw the original but plan on watching the newer versions once I finish some other shows.
@The Player For the Italian version as well
@The Player For a localized name, it's the obvious choice.
The series aired on KCAL-TV, along with Dragon Ball Z.
I remember when this first came out in the US it instantly became my favorite show. The name change for the white armor figure also really confused me.
The reason I fell in love with anime. This show was the best and watching it subtitled years later was a whole new experience!
Haa!
i could never figure out why this wasn't such an Epic franchise like others from this era, on paper the different variables involved sound like they should add up to something Amazing but it never seemed to catch fire.🤷♂️
This however is another Great video 😄👍
"HAND SHARK!"
I still watch the 2004 DVD relase at least once a year. I may have to look at that ragnarok game to final get my dream of a Ronin warriors game
The footage Dan used is from the mobile game "Langrisser Mobile."
Ryo and Kayura are the summon pulls and Towa is a free summon during the event.
In the 90s, the Turtles would win. Now? They would just have a massive crossover with TMNT having Ronin's armor at some point. With matching action figures.
Just nowadays? The 80s and 90s would have had a field day with something like that in the toy aisles.
