Watching bike reviews can be boring.. but watching an awesome rider shred epic trails while giving his opinions in the most relaxed way... thats the stuff! Thanks for reviewing this bike; sounds like the right bike for me!
Speaking of joyous laughter, you should watch his Ibis Mojo 4 review! Lots of joy there! (I realize your post was a year ago;I'm just now seeing the review)
I have this bike in the 9.9 build. I hope I never try to go as fast as you just did over such gnarly terrain. Nice ride and nice review! And yes, it is the perfect little trail bike - you can pretty much just go!
What a review! That's how mountain bikes should be reviewed! Keep it up! FYI: my 2017 Fuel EX Project ONE frame is getting warranty replaced and I'm hoping I get something like you tested in this video. The only thing I don't stay away from is those loud hubs....it's just a personal thing, but can't stand loud hubs.
Would love to see what you think of the YT Izzo, almost the exact same geometry with a Fox 34 instead of 36 and without the custom reactive shock tune.
@@colemitchmtb I don't think they're changing anything in 2021, especially since they just created the Izzo this year and this is the first run of them.
Solid riding! I’m getting a 2020 frame to replace my 2018 9.8 and am excited for the new geo. I’ll be reusing my 51mm offset fork (at 140mm travel) and 2.4” XR4 tires. Hoping it handles more like a top fuel as a result, but we’ll see.
Great review. Intrigued by those tires for my new Slash for the rare days of fairer weather here in Bellingham. Also, wouldn’t it be hot if Trek offered this bike with a piggyback rear shock to go with the burly fork, brakes, and aggressive geo a la Norco Optic and Stumpy EVO?
I would LOVE to see you do a review of the RAAW Madonna V2!!! You do the BEST reviews! I'm tossing up between it, a Transition Sentinel and a Scott Ransom. Feel free to reply anyone ^_^
Would the 2020\1 PIVOT SWITCHBLADE beat this bike in every aspect? Climbing, sprinting, descending, tight turns, NOT destroyer of pedals and cranks, flat surfaces, rocks,...
After watching your Switchblade review it seems like the EX rides relatively similar. Can you comment on why someone would pick the Switchblade over the Fuel EX at the 9.7 level and above. I'm comparing the Fuel EX 9.7 to the Switchblade XT Race build. I know there is about $1200 difference there but I'm really looking for a comparison on the frame and the bigger travel of the Switchblade vs the smaller travel of the Fuel. Your review stated how both liked to get into the air and both felt poppy. That's what I'm looking for but what I can't seem to suss out is if the Switchblade is less plush than the Fuel. Thanks and I think we'd all like to see a review of the Ibis Ripmo V2 as it competes with these bikes. Cheers, Sean
Do you know if the XR4’s are comparable to Kenda Regolith’s? My 2022 9.8 Fuel EX came with 2.5 XR5’s, and I’d like to lighten up if I can Also, were you riding with the mino link in high or low position?
The trek definitely felt longer and maybe more plush with those big balloon tires. The pivot is better for pumping through rollers and better in the corners with those maxxis tires. They both climb amazing. You can’t go wrong with either.
They have stolen the Gary Fischer technologies if you did'nt know. I had a Gary Fisher Sugar 3+ as my first serioius bike in about 2003-2005. Loved that geometry
@@mattiasandersson3444 yeah, totally stole his technologies...“This makes sense. I love this strategy,” says Gary Fisher in a press release sent early this morning. “I’ve been working with Trek on the Fisher Brand since 1996, but this puts me right in the middle of the best team of bike people. I can now bring my ideas to Trek, number one bike brand in the world. Better bikes and more people on those bikes. I love it.”
I highly doubt it, but if it is, I know of some great cuts to the police budget they can make so they can hire better police officers with more money per officer.
That bike would have paid for more than 4 years of college when I went back in the day - the days when higher education was heavily subsidized by state and federal taxes due to corporations being adequately taxed. Now corporations skate free and actually blackmail states by demanding endless tax dodges or else they’ll threaten to move to a state more conducive to their bribes. Or “better yet” move major operations to China.
Does no one ride slow, technical trails where you need to pedal and/or ratchet your way along, up, down anymore, in general and for sure in reviews? Seems all you ever hear is about how a bike climbs and descends on the fast and flowy stuff, never about slow speed tech, so sad.
I had a 2018 Fuel EX and on really gnarly terrain (which I normally ride on my DH Bike) it had not enough travel 😂😂😂 Its perfect for flowtrails und easy singletrails. On harder singletrails it has enough travel till it gets fast. Mine climbed ok but my Megatower is surprinsingly the way better climbing bike.
@Lynx G yes I know what you are talking about. Problem that I see with “modern” geo is that when the reach gets longer and the HTA slacker it generally means the wheelbase is longer as well. Makes the bike more stable on trails like in this vid, but more of a pita on tight technical slow speed stuff where ya gotta ratchet the cranks. That said I’ve not seen any vid reviews that showcase this kind of terrain. It’s a bit sad, but I understand that speed, like sex, sells.
Pathetic. A trail bike with a carbon frame that cost a mere couple-hundred to produce the carbon. The overly-rated components made of cheap material, with a 800% mark-up in sale-price. Basically a rig for the rich, shameful, and weight-weenies. My 2 years at SUNY Geneseo, cost less.
Still the best, most consistent, most fun to watch bike reviews out there. Great work!
That what I was about to say! 😁🤙
Damn, I suspect that he edited this at home and talked over it 😂🤷♂️
This guy is a cold blooded mountain bike killer!!! 👏👏👏
Being able to speak calmly and in full sentences while shredding like that is under appreciated.
Yeah, I'd be huffing and puffing and grunting up a storm.
I'd be cursing left 'n right. Lol

Great review. It’s good to see a bike like this ridden by a capable rider and listen to your reactions in the moment. Great vid. Keep it up.
Great review. You know it's a good bike when tester is in joyous laughter. I rode one and it is a fun bike.

It’s much the same for the Trek Remedy, I cant really fault the remedy and it’s so confidence inspiring.
Dude, l had no idea how badass that bike is! Super cool 😎
Owning one, it is definitely an amazing bike to ride.
The Reakt shock with the mini-piggy is seriously cool.

Exactly the bike I’m looking at! Very similar spec too for almost 3000 dollars less
@@colemitchmtb It's an amazing bike, I got mine about 3 weeks ago and love it. You won't go wrong with the Izzo!
Hardcaslte That’s awesome man! I’m probably going to wait for YT to come out with the 2021 model, and snatch it up right away

Best video review saw.
Wow what a run!
Great review! Subbed.

Homestead know how life is good same thing just heavier

How does it compare against the REMEDY? What would you recommend to go to bike parks?
I just bought one , hope is what they show on the video 🤞🤞🤞🤞
Hello, what do you guys think about the new norco sight?
How would you compare this to the YT Izzo?
