Still think green one looks better. That color makes it stand out and be unique. Blue looks like any other watch. Its actually crazy how much color can change the look of watch.
Thank you! I think we've all been waiting for your review on the Blue Alpinist. As always, with a touch of class ... you just focused on the watch itself. Appreciated that very much. Love the SKX mod!
In a world full of SKX mods, yours is my favorite! The bezel change is the bees knees! With a change like that, I wouldn’t miss the lumed bezel. I especially love the polish work on the great wave! Love the blue Alpi btw

That advert you showed for Smiths watches bought back some memories. I come from Manchester (now live in Japan!) and actually bought my first Seiko watch (their first quartz model, with a green face!) at Tucker Nunn & Grimshaws Jewellers shop on Market St. in the early 70s.
Yet again a quality detailed Episode Sir, Definitely a Seiko fan, but not a massive fan of the alpinist.. However I do appreciate the lineage and history behind the Alpinist & that only adds to its value.., Which this channel has taught me over the years! Great Video and review!! Much appreciated.. Love your watch review videos, they’ve helped me pick my first watch and of course it’s a flighty. I did buy a presage after wards. Thanks for making these videos hope all is well on your side.
I too have that Seiko world clock. Bought it new over 35 years ago and it keeps great time. No maintenance to speak of, just change batteries every once in a while.
Completely agree that unless there were going to be some serious changes for the better, they could have just stuck with the green version. You have rightly pointed out that it is not for everyone, although there is something very eye catching about the green and gilt combination. I personally will be keeping an eye out for the green one, hopefully finding a good piece and getting scolded for buying another watch. Thank you again for the informative video TGV
not to mention its exactly the same watch with just blue dial and insane price there's something to be said about green not many watches rock that colour blue on the other hand you can find million blue dials

Nice video! That tshirt is dope! I enjoyed your vid on the seiko world time desk clock, in fact, it helped me pull the trigger on my very own. Love your style bro, the editing and production of your vid sis top notch. Keep grinding yo! Much respect.
And my (almost!) new green Alpiniste arrived this morning - lightning quick delivery! Apart from not having it's original box and papers, the watch is in pristine condition and is absolutely indiscernable from a Seiko factory-fresh one. I have to say that the Alpiniste doesn't disappoint; it has that unmistakeable feel of Seiko quality about it, and whilst I know that the green dial is a bit of a "Marmite" issue amongst watch enthusiasts, it really does float my own particular boat. The only issue that I have to report if that the Seiko-supplied, faux-crocodile, leather strap is INCREDIBLY stiff and a little on the small side for my large-ish wrist; hopefully it will become more pliable with use. The strap aside, I can whole-heartedly recommend the Alpiniste - especially at the price of GB£225 (about US$290), which even included postage!
That SKX mod is superb. Very well executed. Like it A LOT, more than the Blue Alpinist, to be honest. The price is the price, not sure what else to say about that.
Good show as usual. SKX looks great! I do like the idea of a lumed crown and bezel...I am a lume lover...sounds a bit weird, lume lover lol The Alpinists are very nice. Best Regards Stuart
I like the watch in either color. I think you're right about the green one being more regal. I would own either. But I would like to see it in either a charcoal dial with gold accents or black with white accents, and all the numbers illuminated.
Seiko is my favourite brand as well. I love that they have a quality watch at every price point and they sell you a watch on its quality alone. 500$ or 5000$ they let you decide if you can tell the difference not based on just branding
Love my green/gold Alpinist TGV on the Colareb strap in swamp...! Prefer the green/gold over the blue/silver.... Glad they kept the watch however the same as far as size etc.
Fondled a few Seikos at the local watch dealer today - The white Presage Cocktail Time looks gorgeous, but I think I'd like the blue one better. If I had unlimited budget I think I'd like a couple of Presages, a black Samurai diver, an Alpinist and a Seiko Land SRPA77. And that was just warming up - so many watches, so few nickels. And then there are the custom ones. There's literally an endless supply of Seikos alone.
Saving up for the blue Alpinist as my first real watch right now! Gonna buy it as a treat for my birthday and I really can't wait to have it. I think the blue is stunning and the attention to details is amazing. I will probably have to buy a NATO when I do get it though, haha.
Since discovering the alpinist I have wanted to see a blue one (Blue is my favorite color). I love the new Alpinist but I wish Seiko had handled its release differently. As always a great video full of information. Look forward to the next one TGV! Teddy released a video on Seiko today as well so it’s definitely going to be a Seiko lovers day haha. :)
Another great vid, TGV. I agree with your pros and cons. Also, another missed opportunity is not having a steel bracelet. I know Seiko is trying to differentiate from the Rolex Explorer, but still....
I like mine quite a bit but... haven't worn it much aside from some Instagram photo ops atop my close-by NC mountains. Perfectly sized but I really wish the dial markers were white gold as this is what I'm used to at this point. Your camera work was splendid - as you say the lack of AR makes it a *bear* to photograph. I settled on a Colareb Venezia Blue - a perfect pairing.
Thanks for the video Tristano. Having owned and sold the green Alpinist twice now I can honestly say it is a fantastic piece. However if I was to buy an Alpinist again it would have to be the older red alpinist as I much prefer the looks, yes I would be paying in the region of €800-€900 for one but well worth it and getting rarer by the day.
Beautiful watch. I would love to see a GMT version with a quick set hour hand. I don't own a Seiko (blasphemy, I know) but a true GMT Alpinist in blue would make me get the plastic out quickly!
I love Seiko and Orient. My favourite watch is my Orient Star Retrograde black dial. I love it. Incredible dial detail and I just don't think you can better the finishing for the price. As always great enjoyable video 👌
What I would like on an updated Alpinist? First and above all: keep it green and gold! But add a geen compass ring and a screw down crown to operate it. Ditch the white text on the dial, but keep the 'Automatic' in gold. Last: Throw in a high beat movement and cover it with a display caseback. Done! Thank you Seiko.
My original thought was, this is the same watch in a different color. It looks less unique than the green and its 3 times the price... and I don’t think I’ve changed that opinion. As also great review and greatly appreciated.
Andrew has a great channel. I very much enjoy his take on men’s lifestyle items, also a admirable quality of yours. You both have a lot of class👔🥾🧢🎩🌂🍸🎸!!!

You’ve endured graciously and kept your smile into the bargain. I hope you will continue in your current apparent state of good health. I like the silk wave 🌊 scarf btw. Cheers 🥂!
I think they did a brilliant job on the SPB089 Blue Alpinist. The only niggle with the watch itself is for a limited edition of that price, they could have used some higher end sourced leather on the strap. Disregarding aftermarket prices, I think it would have made the price a bit more justifiable, based on what the Alpinist was selling for before production ended. However, you could say Seiko left money on the table with the prices they're still going for now. All my other complaints revolve around the limited numbers, and how sales were handled. I am online very frequently, and yet I missed both selling out, the Seiko site sale by
I also went to the Seiko Museum in Tokyo, it was such a cool experience. They also have very old English clocks and French pocket watches and such on display as a general display of horological history as a whole.
I hope all is well TGV. thanks for another 31 minutes video. I know you can't do the GIFY thing. I love when watching your 30 minutes video about watches . don't go in GIFY mode. Your Skx013 is fantastic, in my mind the cool part of it is the high polishing of Kanagawa , that is lovely . and the blue Alpinist just killing me man, Seiko did a great job again. but i wish a little change in illuminated dialsc.
It's funny, I wasn't a big fan of the green/gold Alpinist and was really waiting for a different color. But now I see the blue version (that looks great), I kind of prefer the green one in the end which makes it very different ! Maybe I'm being complicated 😅 Beautiful SKX by the way 😉👍
I think that the Green Alpinist is more true to it's roots. You're correct in that Seiko and Hodinkee played it safe and are pandering to the popularity of Blue Dial Craze. Looking forward to your video on journalist.
I have one, I like it quite a lot. I agree that a refined, well-made hand winding movement plus screw down compass bezel crown with ratcheting would be significant improvements. The display back I could take or leave. I would rather have AR coating on both sides of the crystal.
I dunno... As you said, there’s a lot of blue watches out there... Not as many beautiful green watches. I just got a Seiko SSC513. A retro 70s style ReCraft Chrono with a solar movement. I’m loving the look of the bottle green metallic gradient on the dial. My favourite watch at the moment.
I actually prefer the green alpinist to the blue. It was after your review of the green one i decided to purchase one for myself. Id actually like them to carry on making green dial watches with the gild, possibly making it a trademark look for the alpinist.
Great review! The new Blue Alpi is nice, but I think they lost the quirkiness of the green sunburst in the previous generation. That's a big part of its appeal is how unique it is, the standard blue just isn't different enough. As always, the strap...
So, in mid 2022, a check on eBay shows only one available in Europe. Obviously bought by a speculator because the price is over 1,300 euros. Much as I’d like the blue face, just pulled the trigger on a green and gold one. If they ever release a blue dial version for general release I’ll be in there like a shot.
Blessings...I think it's a missed opportunity. As I see this version more and more, the idea of putting a red gmt hand seems pretty awesome. This way the compass could be used just as some of the current Prospex gmt land watches are setup. Maybe formulate the second pusher to rotate gmt hand...yes I've been thinking... Great topic indeed !
Donkeys are my favourite measurement of time. Right above yonks.
But how many yonks in a donkey?

I can't wait until Seiko releases a watch with a donkeys complication. It's going to be pure class.

I think that the Green Alpinist is more true to it's roots. You're correct in that Seiko and Hodinkee played it safe and are pandering to the popularity of Blue Dial Craze. Looking forward to your video on journalist.
I like the idea of a thinner manual wind Alpinist. Does Seiko even make manual wind movement anymore?
Grand Seiko released a few if that counts?
“Donkeys ago”? You don’t look that old. Great videos. I’m addicted to watches 🙂
Love the diversity in the Seiko range 👍
I have one, I like it quite a lot. I agree that a refined, well-made hand winding movement plus screw down compass bezel crown with ratcheting would be significant improvements. The display back I could take or leave. I would rather have AR coating on both sides of the crystal.
I dunno... As you said, there’s a lot of blue watches out there... Not as many beautiful green watches.
I just got a Seiko SSC513. A retro 70s style ReCraft Chrono with a solar movement. I’m loving the look of the bottle green metallic gradient on the dial. My favourite watch at the moment.
Seiko's are the best i totally agree👍
I would love to see a review of some of the newer seiko dive watches
I actually prefer the green alpinist to the blue. It was after your review of the green one i decided to purchase one for myself. Id actually like them to carry on making green dial watches with the gild, possibly making it a trademark look for the alpinist.
Great review! The new Blue Alpi is nice, but I think they lost the quirkiness of the green sunburst in the previous generation. That's a big part of its appeal is how unique it is, the standard blue just isn't different enough. As always, the strap...
love the blue one, thanks for reviewing
The prices for the blue Alpinist are just insane !
What was the price five months ago?
