Even if it did, abilities that impose immunity will remove status at the first available chance anyway. If a Pokemon with Immunity is Poisoned by a pokemon with Mycelium Might or the Mold Breaker variants for instance, it will be removed at end of turn.
@@MattBudYT That's fair. I just know that as it is Syncronize might as well be Klutz for how useful it is. It would probably be a decent ability on tankymon like Umbreon if it functioned like we said, or at least better than Inner Focus.
@MattBudYT I'm not entirely certain whether or not I watched that one yet, in fact, I only found you kinda recently. ^^; I did my digging independently around when SV came out because I was desperate to make my shroomy bois good.
Easily one of the best Pokémon channels on UA-cam. Funny, to the point, and educational! I'm glad you included the "minor buffs" because they were very interesting! These videos help me out tremendously as a VGC player. Looking forward to the next upload! 🥳
I mean, sturdy has to be the winner for "biggest impact on comp post-buff" right? I can't think of an ability that affected the meta game the way sturdy did
I'd say it's the intimidate immunities. A relevant example reccently is people trying tera-normal Extremespeed Rayquaza in the current VGC format, but it's just worse than Dragonite. Dragonite blanks Intimidate so gets an item slot, Ray is forced to use a clear amulet. Also, intimidate (and taunt) immunity were big reasons for Dondozo dominating VGC in early formats, Unaware Dondozo usually had to hold a clear amulet.
I stand by the belief that Illuminate should have had a different effect from Keen Eye. The idea I had was that it acts as a defense-lowering version of Intimidate, with the thematic explanation that when your Illuminate Pokemon pops out of their Pokeball, it's basically like a flashbang. The opposing Pokemon reels back, covering their eyes, thus leaving them open to a Physical attack. I dunno which abilities would be _immune_ to this, but presumably stuff like Keen Eye, Sniper, Oblivious, Tinted Lens, etc. Probably moves that either have to do with a Pokemon's eyesight, or in the case of Oblivious, simply not even registering that they've been flashed.
@@edgargaebolg9307 same idea, an accuracy version of intimidate, I don't think its that op of a buff, considering that the pokemon with said ability, such as volbeat and illumise, are pretty weak
In Super Mystery Dungeon, Illuminate gives the user a Follow Me status whenever they use a "light" move (like Confuse Ray, Dazzling Gleam, Light Screen or Shock Wave).
The inner focus buff is surprisingly useful. Most Dragonite's can run it to be immune to turn 1 fake out and intimidates, making it a real option over multiscale
It also makes Dragonite a better tera-normal Extremespeed abuser than freakin' Rayquaza, not even because Ray uses your restricted slot, Dragonite is just better than it. Getting to use your item slot on something other than clear amulet, is huge for it.
life orb fake out sucker punch delcatty is the best way to use normalize. it's what some fake out builds attempt to achieve which is fake out free damage+a strong priority attack preferably stab. you have 40 damage priority moves or you can use extreme speed/sucker punch on top of it. delcatty is the only pokemon that can get stab boost on both fake out and sucker punch but its stats are too weak to make use of it and its blocked by atleast rock and ghost types
Rough Skin being buffed in Gen 4 instead of Gen 5 is funny to me when the only Pokémon with Rough Skin at that point were Carvanah and Sharpedo since the Garchomp line didn't get their hidden abilities yet. I know Sharpedo gets some use out of Rough Skin, especially in Gen 3 with stopping 1HP mons in Gen 3 UU, but in hindsight it really isn't defensive enough to make great use of the buff alone lol.
*It’s also worth noting that Incineroar usage in VGC being laughably high because it just.. does everything a 2v2 mon needs to means Inner Focus is doubly effective in.. doubles..
Pretty sure you missed out Stench, an ability that used to only reduce wild encounters, but now has the ability to flinch opponents. Shame its mainly on really slow pokemon.
They can buff Overcoat but having it defensively ignore the effects of weather, so basically ignoring the buffed Fire and Water damage of Sun and Rain.
I don't know best buff in a competitive sense but not counting from doing nothing to something I'd say biggest in effect buff compared to before is sturdy block one shot moves isn't to usful yet block getting one shot by moves is very useful in and out of competitive. But im very tired so decent chance i missed a even better before and after buff.
@@bigfudge2031 not entirely sure, but I think it would be awesome. Using up an item and then knocking another one to steal like a leftovers would be fire 🔥
for Illuminate instead of it getting the buff of preventing your accuracy from being lowered maybe it lowering your opponent's accuracy upon switch in similar to how intimidate works, it would basically be flash in ability form
Imagine synchronize passing on all status and stat changes to all pokemon on the field and taking them too. Not a suggestion at all but wouldn't that be a wild card. My defense dropped? Now everyones defense is down! You used calm mind? I get the stat boosts too! Now it would be funny inflicting status and getting it back as a result of your own ability.
Personally think Slaking should get normalize. Would hit like a truck and no longer be bound to truant BUT it cant do anything about resistances and immunities Illuminate should work like victory star tbh
Are we getting Abilities that were nerfed?

The video will make 3 minutes at most.

Syncronize needs to bypass immunity too. Most of the time whatever hit you with the status is immune to the status. Like getting Toxic-ed by a Muk.
That would be a huge buff, I’m down for it passing typing immunities but not ability immunities like limber, immunity, water veil, etc.

2 Pick up on users vs slow team and flinching items allows you to flinch them until the team is gone by swapping flinching items

This is true. I missed that it had no effect until gen 5. Good catch!
The biggest ability change in my opinion was Shadow Tag's nerf over the generations.
They need to update runaway, let the pokemon be able to swap out of battle regardless of opponents abilities or moves that would lock them into battle
They can buff Overcoat but having it defensively ignore the effects of weather, so basically ignoring the buffed Fire and Water damage of Sun and Rain.
I think there should already be a ability similar to Intimidade, but for Spec. Attack.
