I really disagree with comedy enforcement on two things: 1. I respect that Steve-O refuses to sugarcoat the truth when people are denying their own addiction. He tells them the truth even if it makes things uncomfortable. I've seen him do this a few different times and he keeps it real on this topic every time because he knows how damaging it is. Lying to others about their addiction would be lying to himself as well, which is a step away from accountability and a step back into the rabbit hole of addiction and destroying your own life.
this episode of 2B1C was a hard watch. Bert seeing people in his life telling him to get help is probably awful. He raised two great girls, held down a marriage, partied his ass off and he doesn't want it to stop. his social identity which he holds highly is the machine, the party animal. at his age, he is gonna find out sooner than later the cost of never letting the animal go.
As a alcoholic myself Bert is somehow still in the faze of denial and doing mental gymnastics to convince himself that he’s not an alcoholic. Every alcoholic goes through this, which is what led to my 2 relapses. If you stop drinking for a period of time and you get over that hump of the physical and mental part your mind starts convincing you “yeah I’ve done this time without alcohol or drugs I must not really be an alcoholic, I’m sure I can just drink socially or hold myself to a few drinks” and then you end up shit face and sometimes blacked out. Many of times have i gone into a social hangout with friends and tell everyone that this time I’m gonna hold myself to a few beers and take it slowly and then I wake up the next day not even remembering how I got home or what even happened last night. Bert is scared to admit it because he doesn’t want to give up that comfort of alcohol. And that’s okay, in the rooms we say if it’s not your time it’s not your time get it outta your system so you can completely commit yourself to sober living.
Steve O really looks like this genuine nice guy who cares about others and also manage to make his point clear in to give his opinion and make his point in the nicest way possible. I really like the guy.
When drunks like Bert say they haven't had a drink in whatever amount of time, they are always lying. Bert puts popularity above everything else in life so if he quits drinking he loses his fame and that would be earth shattering.
I’m a recovering addict\alcoholic and one of the weirdest things I always did was tell my friends I wasn’t while I was snorting lines and chugging epsolon. And once I admitted it they all had the same reaction “ya…. We know..” and I realized, I was never fooling them, nor was I trying to. I was trying to fool myself into believing I wasn’t
Bert will get sober and after a year all you will hear is Bert telling everyone how bad alcohol is and how he got clean and why people shouldn't drink. No matter what happens he'll make it about himself. 😂
He has all the awareness. If he told Shane Gillis the same thing, he would laugh or tell Steve o to F' off lol. Bert is like a child trying to cover up something, scrambling for anything he can paint over it. Also typical alcoholic behavior

The difference is Steve-O actually lived the party lifestyle Bert pretends he did. I personally like Steve-0 and his wild ride podcast has some decent interviews on it.
I'm not at all with Bert on this one. And I like almost all your takes. I will say, what he said about recovering addicts seeing everyone's problem IS a problem, for some. Not only did I have an addict in my family, but I was in a relationship with a recovering alcoholic for a long time. She would do exactly what Bert mentioned, Bert just didn't phrase it eloquently. We would literally be in a mild argument, and then she'd say "you're acting like an addict." And this occurred in many ways in many contexts 'til we split ways. Again. I'm not saying it's super common, but she wasn't the only one. And psychologically it makes sense you'd learn a new way to watch over your own mind and then continue to see it in others. Also Bert said "all they can see is alcoholics" or something similar, generalizing... overzealous. Anyways just wanted to share meh'thoughts. Be well!
Every time this topic comes up I think back to 10 years ago. We’ve been down this road for a decade and it’s Bert’s new fans who keep this dream alive. Bart has always been an addict and narcissist. He has been unbearable to listen to - unless you’re new here. Every year for a decade it’s the same merry go round. Yes, he’s an out of control addict and total narcissist. It never changes. His wife said publicly if he passed away, itd be a relief. She’s tired.
It'd be fun to hear Steve-O talk during his appearance lol.. But seriously, this video is a big help, I almost never watch Bert's episodes. I would have missed this, & the way you put it back in proper perspective at the end was good too👏
My mom was a heroine and meth addict, relapsed after 10 years sober while working for a big company making big $$ for a long time before it got out of control. Being a functioning addict doesn’t make someone NOT an addict.

Thank goodness you weighed in with your expert analysis of alcoholism near the end. Knowing how often Bert consumed alcohol and all. Phew. Guess that settles it.
My dad was in denial like Bert but if he were in his 60s. He was on dialysis so a machine was basically peeing for him while keeping his kidneys on life support so he stopped drinking till a doctor told him a beer on Christmas wouldn't kill him so he had 5 drinks a night till it basically killed him
In my 20s and 30s my drinking really didn’t affect me. Once I hit my 40s everything was falling apart. Little by little….the alcohol just started taking things away little by little.
The first 20 episodes of 2 bears 1 cave were some of the funniest podcasts I have ever personally seen... but it seems like the dynamic that made the show so good at the beginning is the same dynamic that is now Destroying it... At first it was funny when Bert kept interrupting Tom, now I just think that he hasn't learned that the world doesn't revolve around him... it seems like Tom is tired of it, and it seems like everybody else is tired of it... I can't imagine how Bert's wife feels.. she will probably be leaving within the next couple years(if she is smart). Bert loves fame so much, that it will be a very hard road to the bottom for him. And the road is already pointing down from what I see.
That Steve O is the voice of reason in 2023, holy shit. And I'm a fellow Steve, our name sucks. But he's preaching facts here, what a time to be alive.
Look at Bert's face. As someone that used to have issues with sporadic alcohol abuse you can totally tell when somebody's been clean for a few months. Their skin starts to glow and they don't have big old bags under their eyes. with that being said, Bert is still drinking. Lots
Bert is in denial. You don't have to wake up and drink or drink very large amounts daily to be an alcoholic. It's more of a spectrum thing. He uses comparison, deflection, and bargaining as a way to deny and rationalize how bad he really is. I've done all of that too with my addictions.
Bert has destroyed his own career. Not even tom wants to be around the guy. He should go to AA and get help, but then it would be his personality forever. He needs a 6 month no internet rehab stay to figure out everything about himself.
@@rootfish2671 I am POSITIVE he tells himself the same thing. That's one of the problems he has. He thinks he will lose everything if he gets sober. When in reality, he would lose everything by trying to push his sobriety on his fans, who may or may not have a problem. like he does.

Doctors/Psychiatrists/Etc often don't just tell people "you are X".
It's usually a lot more helpful to help them come to the realization themselves and want to work on it.
Drew doesn't care if Bert thinks he is an alcoholic or not, he wants him to drink less. Period.

He's got some pretty out there beliefs though. I think its just the program he's in is like SUPER religious. Saying "alcohol isnt bad" is like saying "Fentanyl isnt bad" . Its not GOOD! Alcohol is NOTHING like sugar to a diabetic. That was just crazy. But i get what he's doing. Im clean for 11 years and he's in that phase where he thinks he can save everyone. So he's armed with all these one liners that just dont work in some instances. If you’re in recovery you know that there’s few things more trying than have a convo with someone like Bert lol
Seriously I wouldn't be able to handle all his denial. He circles around the problem all the time and constantly talks about his drinking. But he never admits it to himself. It's not entertaining.
I really disagree with comedy enforcement on two things: 1. Bert’s drinking is definitely an issue, Shane admits his own is, so using him as a comp makes no sense, and Bert actually has been exposed for lying about drinking less than he really does. 2. If you’re 75 days sober, you should be over whatever withdrawals you would have, he’s not cranky from not drinking, he’s cranky because he doesn’t like having to confront his alcoholism. He knows he’s an alcoholic but can’t admit it.
And if you know how to actually drink in moderation you know to avoid having a convo with someone like Bert and also the guys in “recovery” who can’t stop proselytizing their relationship with their higher power

Be well!
