As most millennial men, I grew up on Steve-O, so I'm always gonna have love for him. Especially makes ne happy to see where he is today. That being said, there's only few people that could get away with saying stuff like this, and Steve-O is one of them. He calls it like it is and because he's not dependent on the traditional stand up scene he can call people out when it needs to be done. Steve-Os fan base has been home grown for decades outside of the comedy scene

Steve-O has legit feelings on this. He was screwed over by Jeff Tremaine and Johnny Knoxville financially for most of the work he did for them.
He grew up with wealthy parents, but he never seems to look down on the working class.

But even with all the positivity that can come from becoming a fan of something, like a band, a movie star, sports celebrities/teams, or in this case, a few comedians, their podcast, and the feeling of sharing a similar sense of humor with other fans, we love to build it up, and then see it all burn to the ground. Most reasonable, rational people would ask, “why would anyone root for that?” It’s because it can be entertaining, and when the drama plays out online, people can get away with saying outrageous shit, and not really suffer the consequences. Even when it comes to something people enjoy, the chaotic behavior & drama of someone famous having the almost inevitable downfall unfortunately, can be just as entertaining. It’s what we do, and it’s kinda f’ed up. Plus, most people enjoy a redemption arc, so if the fallen, career ruined individual can turn it all around, and get back to the top of the mountain, that’s even better. I agree, it’s a twisted relationship that people end up having with shit they enjoy, and you are supposed to ask your question.

It’s crazy to see how quickly Segura’s star has fallen in the eyes of the comedic community so damn rapidly. It wasn’t that long ago when everyone was singing his praises and praising YMH.
OGs knew 3-5 years ago already when he started making people pay for YMH that was actually controversial.
I stopped listening years ago they would play the same thing for months and then the live streams were bad as well but specifically tom hasn't evolved as a comedian

It’s hilarious that you can almost literally track the arena comic’s life on a graph. Bill Burr, Tom Segura, doesn’t matter, it’s no hobbies->get money->music lessons->expensive watches->pilot’s license, etc. etc. You’ll never see any of them having a hobby like the pedestrians/poors that involves actual tinkering or mechanical knowledge, it’s all surface level stuff that they can buy their engagement with. Pilot training is impressive but you’ll never see these guys turn a wrench in their lives.

You may not remember a single joke he said but I’m sure you can remember countless stunts and pranks he’s done that made us all split at the sides from laughing so hard. Steve-O has the 2 things you need to be funny. 1 he is up for self-deprecation at any stage and 2 he is actually very articulate, more so than I think people notice so because of that he can utilise language to push his jokes through with some wit.

I would never knock Steve-O, dude is primarily a stunt performer, who by all accounts is lucky to be alive and still with us. As someone raised on MTV back in the day, he's a legend in my book, and can pretty much do what he wants. No one is saying he is a great stand up or a great podcaster, everything he does he seems to be winging it.
I never really got the appeal of Tom or Bert's stand up material, but Tom definitely had his moments on YMH. He does seem to have changed in recent months, but fame and money do manifest huge egos and narcissism pretty much every single time.

I am still a poor person. We the fans, that go see Toms shows, ARE THE POOR PEOPLE IN HIS EYES BECAUSE WE ARE NOT MILLIONAIRES. He doesn’t respect us in the slightest. Asking a podcaster on air about how much money he makes or if he's more successful than another podcast is hacky shit. I'd like to see Steve O ask Bill Burr those types of questions when Bill's in a mood.

I just saw Steve on the Adam Friedland Show, which is a super niche podcast. You can really tell, like you said about him not knowing Danny, that he has no idea who's podcast's he's going on. It's like his management just booked him for anything vaguely popular and let him loose. I don't blame him but it's also really hilarious how out of touch with his own press tour he is, the sober Steve-O is burning out haha.
20+ years ago if you told me John Stamos and Steve-O would be on internet shows asking financial questions to comedians who won’t be known for another 10 years, I would’ve called it the dumbest prediction I’ve ever heard.

Steve o is so down to earth for a dude that has always had money available to him.
I've always felt the booth boys were underpaid/overworked. To some extent at least. Like Nadav leaving after moving to Texas and producing one of the largest pod studios in the game says a TON. You'll never see Young Jamie like that. Joe knows the worth. Also much smaller scale thing in terms of production but yea. Imo the behind the scenes pod workers should get a choice of a percentage of earnings that month or flat rate. If they build and lift the studio to various highs and lows, then they deserve to ride the wave of highs and lows financially as well. Then again, if they agree to the wage and so on then 🤷♂️
The podcast critique world has really blown up as of late. Just wanted to say. I always enjoy your take on a lot of it.
I think what is happening is some of these comedians want to act and be treated like celebrities but in the nature of comedy that really doesn't work. Comedy truly is the people's art in that being resalable to the average man or woman is what makes it all work, not saying you can't be from wealth or status or obtain it and loose it, just they have to be relatable. The best comedians are "one of us" and once they start loosing that feeling they start losing that to appear more "celebrity" they start loosing their crowd and I think this is what's beginning to happen with some of them.

Im glad you gave Danny Brown his moment. I see ppl in comments sometime asking about him as if he just appeared in the podcast world. OLD and Atrocity Exhibition are great albums. Hes the most creative person at YMH studios by far (not counting their staff)
Say what you want about the LA comedy scene but when Tom and Christina moved to Austin the whole vibe changed same with Kill Tony….thanks Joe
Kill Tony has only improved for the past 4-5 years.
Worried about Matt and Shane losing their edge too moving to Austin. Seems like it's smoothing everyone out. Time will tell.

It’s absolutely going to change Shane, but not Matt too much I don’t think. Shane will at least have the self-awareness not to brag about his success when he’s around the Rogan crew, and same for Matt. The problem is none of these dudes have any connection to Texas, no pride in the state, it’s just another cheap state they can love to that has some allure to it that they can buy their way into becoming a part of. When you grow up in a culture you take on aspects of that culture that carry with you throughout your life, but if you just hop from state to state, city to city, there’s an impermanence about your personality that will seem phony and hard to place.

Comedy enforcement is part of the reason both Tom and Bert are so famous because while he was farming drama from all the other comedians he was praising Tom and Bert the entire time.
Every second word that comes out of Steve's mouth on his own show is an advertisement so he cant say nothing. However what he says about tom and christine is true they've lost the run of themselves.
I don’t think it was too ridiculous for Steve-O to ask what he does on stage. I think he was trying to see if Danny did stand up or a comedy show along with the music. Given The channel he is on it doesn’t seem crazy to assume he is doing some sort of comedy show.
