It was a Mayan revolt against Mexico in the Yucatan Peninsula that established a de facto independent state in the mid 19th-early 20th centuries. They even built new towns (including their capital, Chan Santa Cruz) with traditional Mayan layouts and traded with and were recognized by Britain. Eventually they lost Britain's favor after entering into conflict with their colony of British Honduras (Belize) and Mexico took the oportunity to finally crush them, gaining complete control over the territory by the 1940s.
It actually kinda makes sense; since Germany did not loose WW1 so much as realized they couldn’t win after the US entered the war and became the largest reserve for in world history. The reason WW2 happened was cause the French were still living in fantasy land and wanted vengeance for Germany dealing with their entrance to the Russian-German war rather easily.
Paradox really needs to make a game that focuses on the cold war era in history. It would start in 1950 and end somewhere in the 1990s. America was playing in the sand by then so it could open up some interesting scenarios with middle eastern countries in the late game. One of the big mechanics of the game could be avoiding war. Imagine having a M.A.D. meter on the screen that goes up or down depending on your choices and actions. If the meter goes up to high then boom mutually assured destruction. The main goal of the game would be to get to the end of the cold war in 1990. It might be a bit too simplistic for a Paradox GS game, but I think it could work.
