  • I started on 17th December 2021, 14 months later on February 2023 I thought I would produce a small video to show how I am getting on. I had no knowledge of Model railways or model making. I have just read books, magazines and watched lots of UA-cam videos. There are some wonderful modellers out there, showing off the art from reviews of Locomotives to how to lay track and wire it up. From a basic circle with a small controller to a fully automated massive layout. I am still learning and this is in effect my introduction video. I hope to join the wealth of experienced modellers out there one day sharing my experiences of this amazing retirement journey.
    I have now joined my local Model railway Club and hope my knowledge will grow even faster. Please join me on my Journey, I promise to bring you some interesting content, please ask if you wish to see or learn about anything to do with the subject, if I can help I will. I HAVE NO WISH TO MAKE MONEY FROM THIS, it is just for fun.

    This is a fantastic job in an such a short period of time. You have achieved what many an experienced modeller would take considerably longer to do. Well done and thank you for sharing.

    Thank you for sharing this...I really like what you have done there. I am just beginning my journey down this rabbit hole of model railway hobby...recently retired and have wanted to do this since I was a young boy. I really like your multi-level layout, and am taking inspiration for my own...but I will being going with n-scale due to space limits. Thank you again for sharing your layout. 👍 Liked/subscribed.

    It's looking so good after just 14 month's including setting the room up. Wow. I feel so inadequate. I guess we are all limited by time cash and space. I have the added complication of not knowing which country I'm going to be in let alone where or in which house. But I'm enjoying fact finding track planning and acquiring items relevant to where I was brought up in the North Derbyshire coalfields.. Well done

    Great stuff! Completely agree with your comment about being non-era specific. I say just run the loco you like with the scenics you want!

      Thanks John it has slowed down a bit while I try to learn more without messing it all up. Points work and point motors seem to be my nemesis, can't get my head round what is needed and need a pension cheque month or three to come round. Main big error... where I have placed several points, great big two by four layout board supports are underneath 😀

    That looks absolutely brilliant Graham. Well done! I recognise most of the diesels from my train spotting days in the 1960's.

    That is just amazing what you done in 14 months - like you I started as a complete novice in 21 and am still building mine now in my little shed. I just wished I had the room for an attic layout - one day perhaps!! Thanks for sharing this with the model railway community. I have subbed and look forward to seeing more of your layout.

    You have come a long way in just 14 months, Sir ! It is good to see that you are not afraid to "twist reality's arm" every now and then to make your fantasy come true. It is not 100% reallistic, but the idea does come across and this layout is just "oozing with fun". I can tell that you put your heart in it and enjoy building this. You truly are my kind of guy, I have similar ideas and "lack of perfection" when it comes ot model railroad building. Personally I am more of a technical builder (engineering background and computer / mechatronics nerd, Yes I Am) but I hav a lot of respect for your work as a "newbee". You are doing great , keep this up and you will have many years to enjoy your trains as you develop more skills and fine technique. By the time your layout reaches iteration 3 or 4 (as mine is doing now) you will have learnt a lot and will be so proud f your work, so glad that you went through the process and built those skills. Just don't forget the FUN part, live up to the sign you show in the beginning : "you are only young once but can stay immature forever". Exactly my motto , too. Keep PLAYING and building, and ignore what the perfectionists out there are throwing at you. In our Dutch language we call those "revettentellers" (rivet counters) and I just listen to them but don't always follow what sthey say. I saw someone mention it here before and will expand on it : "your layout, your decisions, your pleasure". Just ONE suggestion : not all trains need to run at full speed all the time ... some variation in that will really make a difference, especially when filming . KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK

      Thanks a lot Daniel, I appreciate your comments and I will certainly take on board your suggestions. I am already realising that I am entering a world that has some very serious perfectionists in it that will find my layout very 'un Prototypical'. I am very much a novice and frankly 'feeling around in the dark' to say the least. I will keep watching the UA-cam experts and keep reading the magazines and hopefully it will all start to make sense, and I will slowly work out what goes with what and make it look a bit more realistic. I will never be a rivet counter but I will certainly have fun attempting to be 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

      As with all 'new' hobbies it is a matter of finding what works best for you, and nobody can dictate that. It is something you discover as you go. Good luck on your quest and I'll be following you to see what is next.

    For a year that's little short of miraculous! All power to your elbow. Heljan's UK support is Gaugemaster, that would be my first port of call with the turntable. Pie in the sky, but it looks like the unit is seeing a short, these things rarely react to an open circuit is my thinking. Just subbed, fill yer boots, ATB, Andy.

    Love this! Great work on the loft itself, love the viaduct and the loft beam really works as a bridge! I personally wouldn't worry about an era, just run what you like. Sorry I can't help with the turntable, is it run off your DCC bus?

    • @FatBoysonTourHikingVideos
      @FatBoysonTourHikingVideos Рік тому

      Hi and thanks, The turntable is only gathering power from the DCC bus wires and connected to its own Blue control box. It started to calibrate as per the instructions then just stopped and showed Err 1 on the control box. The instruction was to clean the contacts with Isopropyl Alcohol but it has made no difference. I have read since that you should not lift up the swing arm when the power is on. I may have done that. Sadly I did not install this until after a year of purchase. As it is now installed I am nw a bit lumbered. Thanks for watching

      Thanks very much, a work in progress that is for sure and not very 'Prototypical' with knowledge I hope that will change. Thanks for the advice on the freight trains which I will take onboard. It is those kind of advice comments I'm after to help me progress. Thanks, Hirsutus
