I've also been a bit slumped lately, not just in writing but also generally in life. During times like this, I like to remind myself that I never need to get out of my lazy phase, and for some reason that helps me get more motivated to start doing things again because I don't feel pressured to.
if you don’t have time, but you should def watch this video later bc ana is amazing! 1. take a break. might seem counter-intuitive, but extremely helpful and you’ll come back strong (hopefully) stay creative during this time, do other hobbies such as crotcheting or writing poetry maybe! 2. read. reading helps you get into the reason you want to write and gives you inspo. 3. read your own work. will give motivation and gets things going, brings you back to your purpose. 4. talk to other writer friends. even if u don’t have anyone, try to find someone online or even just ana! it will give motivation! 5. reflect for why you’re in a slump. will help you fix your bad habits or if you something is pushing you down! just will help realize what is wrong so u can fix it! 6. start documenting progress. will help you talk through it, you could use timelapse on phone to inspire you! (or use a writers journal!) 7. your characters!! you are writing for your characters, you should love them! please keep writing for your babies
Hi, thanks for the tips! I have been journaling daily but i haven't been writing into any of my projects much lately. In the beginning of this year i focused on creating new coloring books so that took up my time, but now that Camp July is here, i will try to work on my standalone story V editing. Yes Ana, we artists all get to the point where we hate what we’re doing, but it’s important to know that that feeling will pass, but we can still do other things to push along what we’re working on. Hi, this surely helped me, maybe when I have school brake now I will beat my writing slump. I have a big hope 🙏 I have feeling I want to start my new story ( even when I didn't finished some others, heh). But actually one of your tips was really speaking to me because I don't know anyone who writes and my friends don't care what I am struggling about so i feel like I am so alone. I was in a block from 2020 (if we count the string of Les Mis self-insert fanfics I wrote in the beginning of the year) but I hadn't written a novel since 2019. And when you said it feels "dehumanizing" to not write, that's completely it. When my book was published last year, it sent me into a spiral of like... so many ideas but no energy to write, which then turned into even more slumpy blocks. it's only now (well the whole of June I was planning) a new novel. All your tips really do speak the truth about this subject. It's actually very important.

But I'm in it because my whole life is changing, I'm getting divorced and this Year I'm struggling with so many things ... living alone, no money, no friends ... it's so hard, and I couldn't find my writers passion. It's like there is a big hole in my soul, because of this missing writing. I tried to write NaNo this year, but I had no ideas, started plotting and now, I'm here, hating my characters in this project, it makes no sense with no ideas and I'm so frustrated.

probably not the reply you were hoping for, but I was stuck for a long time at the first sentence of my current wip too. I'm a big fan of Stephen King and eventually I decided to model the beginning to my novel similarly to how he begins his novels. An example that might help you with the beginning for your novel is how Stephen King starts It: "The terror, which would not end for another 28 years-if it ever did- began, so far as I know or can tell, with a boat made from a sheet of newspaper floating down a gutter swollen with rain. The boat bobbed, listed, right itself again... and continued on its way down Witcham street... A small boy in a yellow slicker and red galoshes ran cheerfully along beside the newspaper boat." King continues on to describe a shocking scene in which the boy meets a gruesome and unexpected death, showing how the boat signified the beginning of the terror and then he moves on with his story from there. It might help to try beginning the next sentence of your novel with "that was the day when..." or "on that day..." and then putting something shocking or unexpected that grabs the readers attention and establishes why that day was important. You can then go on to describe the events of that day and hopefully the story will unfold smoothly from there Good luck! I hope I was able to help you a little bit and i hope you're able to finish your book! A MLM dystopian novel sounds awesome
omg! that first sentence!?! IT SOUNDS SO SO COOL! i totally understand! I was seriously in the same position yesterday. I like starting books off or even chapters similar to your style because it’s just so cool and hooking! however, regarding your sentence…I think it would be cool to do another hooking type sentence to give a little more context. kinda like a spolier but not a spoiler. such as - ‘I still remember the day I met Harrison Firth. But I can’t remember his face.’ OR ‘I still remember the day I met Harrison Firth. And everyday I come back and look at his grave, wondering what went wrong’ of course I have no idea haha what your book is going to be about and what happens in the end. but doing some foreshadowing is really nice to be poetic and get he readers hooked. after this sentence you go back to present day. and write about something completely different. it jars the readers and makes them want to read more into the book to see what really happens!! hehe I hope this helped and tysm for ur long beautiful comment! I was in love with him just as much as the girls that surrounded him 24/7. I never thought I would be fighting “Crawlers” with him in just less than a month.

aww this question is so simple yet it means the world to me!! thank uu! hehe but I’m working on finishing project bb (my fantasy stand alone) and also free writing a new project which is about a runaway magic witch who stole a relic from her Academy left with a curse that no one could remember her name - but one boy did, and he goes out to find her. i also hope to start project ghost boys soon this month!! I think i should do more writing on my actual fantasy book series ( I am writing the second draft at the moment) but there a so many book ideas I have and I couldnt get into the mood.
ughh this came in perfect timing. a few weeks ago I started plotting this fanfic, and instead of finishing it before posting (what i planned to do), i wrote like four chapters and was so hyped abt it i published everything right away. now i just can't write a single word to continue and the bad thing is: it's a goddamn stranger things fanfiction. i should've finished it earlier because all the characters are gonna freaking die tomorrow in vol. 2 and things just won't be the same anymore ughhhhshjsj. currently trying to get out of the writing slump to perform a miracle and post some other chapters TONIGHT lmfao 😭🔫
