I enjoy and learn from your videos all the time! Thank you so much. I just traded up my 9450 got the M7. I am picking it up Tuesday!!! I’m beyond excited.
I have learned so much from you. Where I purchased my sewing here in the states, I received no lessons at all. You are responsible for making my machine enjoyable😊
I just bought my Janome M7 a few months ago and because of COVID-19 there were no instruction classes. This tutorial was very informative. Now i know which foot , needle plate and stitch to use for piecing. I hope to see more of your tutorials on the M7. 😊. Thank you.
Thanks Kim! I enjoy your videos. In this video I noticed you didn’t mention using the quilting patchwork application. Which is accessed by selecting the t-shirt icon and then get to patchwork where you can actually have the machine remember the length of each set of piecing. I find this methods fun for repetitive seams of the same length. ☺️
Glad to be seeing you with the M7 video's. That was very easy to follow. You are so easy to learn from. Is there a way to get a scant quarter inch seam?
Thank you Kim, this was very helpful. I also purchased my Janome M7 during the COVID-19 shutdown and no instruction classes were being offered, and still are not being offered at this time. Your videos are invaluable. Thank you for making more videos/tutorials for this fantastic machine.
I'm unable to get a 1/4" using the O foot and setting you show unless I move the needle all the way over to 9.0. Are you able to get it without moving your needle at all?
You may need to move the needle a few positions over using this set up, depending on the type of ¼" seam you want (actual, scant). I like to use the HP foot and needle plate for most of my ¼" seams although there are (obviously) lots of other options with this machine.
Real bummer that it's not a scant 1/4" however! Makes me want to go back to my Featherweight for piecing, and leave the Janome for quilting and for decorative stitching. Maybe it would work to use the O foot with no guide, and set up some kind of indicator line for the scant.
This gives you a ¼" seam. If you want a scant ¼", you might want to use one of the other ¼" feet that coe with the Janome M7 and move your needle position over just a smidge or two.
You can move the needle position to get a narrower ¼" seam, but you'll then need to use the zigzag plate. You can't use the HP foot and needle plate or the straight stitch needle plate and move your needle position.
It does have different features than the 9450 although I like both machines - I have both in my studio. Check out my video comparing the two machines at ua-cam.com/video/pvNbm1w7aBQ/v-deo.html
I find that it can sometimes push the fabric a bit and doesn't give an accurate ¼" seam. Also, it can get pushed away from the fabric, again not giving an accurate ¼" seam. Just my opinion.
Thank you Kim, I know I can always turn to you for my M7 info!
Thank you for this video. I just bought this machine, in face it is still in the box. Your videos are really clear and easy to u derstand. Thanks!
You are welcome!

Great to hear!
Thank you. I appreciate the opportunity to learn from any videos about the M7!
More to come!

Glad it helped!
So that’s why I had to move the needle way over using the 1/4” foot. I didn’t go to the quilting feature. Thanks
Thanks!
Thanks so much for your support, Deb! ❤️

Good point!

You could use the 0 ¼" foot and move the needle over a bit and that should work for you.

Thanks for another great video!
Can’t wait for my machine to arrive! Great video!
Have fun!
Thank you so much, Kim, that was very helpful. Have a wonderful Summer.
Thank you! You too!
Thank you Kim. Your videos are really helpful!
Thank you for that video....
Thank you.
You're welcome!

If I move the needle all the way to the right I still can’t get a regular 1/4” much less a scant.
Just wondering why you don’t do the videos on all these stitches on the 9450?
I have done many videos on the Janome 9450 however, as I'm not working with the M7 model, the majority of my more recent videos feature this machine.
Real bummer that it's not a scant 1/4" however! Makes me want to go back to my Featherweight for piecing, and leave the Janome for quilting and for decorative stitching. Maybe it would work to use the O foot with no guide, and set up some kind of indicator line for the scant.
Will this give you the scant 1/4”?
This gives you a ¼" seam. If you want a scant ¼", you might want to use one of the other ¼" feet that coe with the Janome M7 and move your needle position over just a smidge or two.
Thanks for the tips!! Can you tell me how the 7mm stitch is used?
You're welcome. I'm not sure what you mean by the 7 mm stitch? This is a 9 mm stitch machine.
Thank you for the video very helpful. What width and length do you use for piecing?
I like to use a 2.00 stitch length. As it is a straight stitch, there is no width "length".
Thank You, I learn so much from you . Love your videos
Can this be set for a scant 1/4 inch??
You can move the needle position to get a narrower ¼" seam, but you'll then need to use the zigzag plate. You can't use the HP foot and needle plate or the straight stitch needle plate and move your needle position.
Does this machine have the pivot function as on the 9450
Yes, it does. Similar to the 9450 but much more.
Chatterbox Quilts it sounds as if you are impressed with the machine does it have lots of features the 9450 has yet to have

Hi. You mentioned you don’t like to use the foot with the guide. Why is that?
I find that it can sometimes push the fabric a bit and doesn't give an accurate ¼" seam. Also, it can get pushed away from the fabric, again not giving an accurate ¼" seam. Just my opinion.
I'm thinking Janome could have set up the O foot with guide for a scant 1/4". Or make a foot for this with a guide. Is there such a thing?
Yes, there is! The Janome M7 comes with the O foot with a guide and the O foot without a guide.
