    It's perfectly fine to ride with a completely sideways stance, you're foot doesn't have to angle at all if you don't want it to. An expert rider will not have a single static stance that always remains the same, he will have a dynamic stance that changes and pivots depending on what he's wanting to do or the feel he wants. When I ride sometimes I have my foot angled, but sometimes I'm complete sideways. Sometimes my feet are wide apart, and sometimes they are close together. When you're completely sideways the feel of carving is completely different and very enjoyable. You can do different things and expand your style quiver. A good rider can do all kinds of variations with his stance and shift his weight accordingly. My recommendation would be for people to practice riding with an angled front foot, but also with a sideways front foot stance and to actually practice rotating your front foot between the two stances while riding and carving. Then practice changing your rear foot angle mid turns, etc. Then work on going up on your toes and the ball of your rear foot and laying down your rear knee, and other fun stuff. There's so much you can do with your stance. Don't be a static rider!

      that is true we adapt but changing to parallel is very important when loosing speed and f.e. stopping with your backfoot. When I help people learn riding changing those 2 base stances is one of the first things I teach

      Thank you for your comment! I struggle a lot with my stance now as a beginner, it is really hard to keep the hips facing forward and compressing the knees while the back straight (!!) and having both feet glued to the board at all times, i feel that only wrong muscles are working and i am just getting stiff on the board, only able to think of not sticking out my hip to the side and having crazy butt muscle pain afterwards 😭 I was sure i am very flexible until i started surfskating.

      @@mariakordyukova7715 It will get better with time on the board.....as a beginner, your body hasn't developed the stability muscles you use while riding. After a while you'll naturally feel more comfortable and natural on a board. The best thing is to just watch as many different riders as possible and then emulate the ones you like their style the most. After a while you will figure out what feels good to you and develope your own style. Riding is just time on a board. The more you ride and observe how others ride, the better you will get.

      @@nateross14 thanks a lot! Honestly i see most people bending forward, with hips not perfectly aligned to the front, so I am thinking i should just ditch the advice of the instructor maybe 😅 I really dont know how to keep the entire back foot on the board while compressing up and down, and having the hips facing forward, it just gives crazy stiffness and pain for now. But I hope it is is just really a beginners phase as you say.

    Very clear pointers: start on grass, think about weight shifts from front to back foot and bend knees etc. I could not see the weight shifts until explained

    Thank you! What do think about wiggling?

    • @MAKOSurfskate
      @MAKOSurfskate  2 роки тому

      Thanks for your comment :)
      Wiggling can be the easiest way to start moving on the Surfskate but it’s not functional for surfing.
      You can’t generate speed on a surfboard by wiggling so if you do that on the skateboard, you can actually create a bad habit which can then be tricky to overcome.
      Also you can generate even more speed on the surfskate by avoiding wiggling and using the right technique… so we would definitely recommend trying to avoid the wiggle as much as possible!
