I just took over my dads KZ750 76 that has been standing for 25 years. Already having some trouble with voltage drops in the system that I'm chasing down. Really excited that I found your channel and this series. Like you said in the first video, there is not a lot of material out there on these bikes.
Hope the negative comments don't mess you up bud. I like what you are doing to the bikes. The fact that you go out and find these (which is one of the best parts for me) and build them into some really rad bikes is wonderful. Anyone that doesn't get it never will. The thrill of the hunt, the tear down and the build up shown on here with A LOT of info on how to do it is why I Subbed. Keep up the great work
It's going to be interesting seeing where you go with this. I'm a stock kinda guy, but I'm sure you'll pull some bunnies out of your hat, the handlebars alone made a massive difference. Cheers from Aus.
I love custom bikes, and I have built one in a cafe/scrambler style. That bike is a 1981 suzuki gs450T with 14k miles that I bought from a salvage car lot for $500, stock parts gone and miss matched aftermarket parts stuck on in place. After that bike was finished I waited about 6 months before I found my dream bike... a 1978 Suzuki gs750E, I purchased it from an older gentleman who bought it for parts. He bought it from a kid who's dad made him sell it because if bad grades, the kid was about to start a cafe racer conversion. I realized after I bought the bike that I had been her second savior from being parted out or cut up. I wasnt sure what I wanted from it but had made the promise to the older gentleman that I wouldn't cut the frame in exchange for a good deal. After rebuilding that 750 close to stock I can appreciate just how impressive they were when new, the cool graphics, starburst mag wheels, and a guliaria seat... I built my 750 in the style which would have been popular in 1978, mimicking the superbike style of the day with intermediate height bars and a slightly longer rear shock. Let this old gal live again as the bike shes supposed to be. Shes made it this long on her good qualities, work to emphasize them and upgrade the bad things but dont cut her into something that she isn't. I'm not against a cafe bike but damn that motorcycle could be something any other rougher bike could not, and that's something worth saving.... Thank you, John Dillon
As far as lowering the headlight, I flipped my stock brackets upside-down and swapped them side for side on my Kz1000. I also painted them matte black. I think it looked really good, especially without the turn signals.
Shame to see a survivor chopped up. To each their own but the weight, suspension, and ground clearance would make this awful off road. It's meant for highway travel. Updating it into a modern touring bike would make more sense. But like I said, to each their own.
Dude can't wait for the next episode. I'm more pumped for videos like yours and Bike -n- Bird then primetime tv. I'll be ordering your shirts just as soon as I can get the extra cash
Big fan from the UK bro. I think if you wanna go for the classic scrambler look you need to have a high exhaust, it's a real pain to position without it obstructing your leg, but I think I would try bending it up under the pegs and around so it flares towards the back of the seat? I wouldn't worry about keeping it stock either, it may offend a few Kawasaki die-hards, but you want to make the best bike you can and look how you want, what was fashionable 3 decades ago probably won't be the best fit! Cant wait to see where you take this build, keep up the hard work.
Personally I'm a fan a small front fenders, a high mount might look cool with those knobbies. I like the idea of the key in the side panel but it probably would look best without thos panels all together.
I'm anxious for you to work your magic on this one, you make these ugly bikes look awesome. I've never been a fan of this style of bike but I like the look after you get done with them.
Great video brother, I always enjoy the way you do things, just getting around to watching your videos so I have a few to catch up on :) How is the temp in Texas at the moment?
Kirker used to make a sweet 2into1 exhaust. They still make knockoffs. I had a 2into1 on my 1983 kz750twin. It sounded alright but I always wished I had the stock exhaust like you have. I'd probably just put some nice mufflers on it and keep it dual exhaust
Also a little off topic but does your house smell like gas? I work in my bikes in my garage and my wife hates it. Got any tips besides opening the door?
I just started an 80 kz750 twin and I am overjoyed that you are also doing one! I have not had the chance to finish your video yet...but what kind of handelbars did you buy, and where? I love them!
the 2 in 1 scrambler exhaust will be killer and fit the bike very well i gease keep up the great work what color will the tank an the seat be? i would love to see some crazy flashing colors on the tank with a black seat witch has all the crazy color stitching greetings from the Netherlands
Handlebars really change the looks for the better. Headlight bucket, I'm sure you saw the rust on the edge. Not sure if that means taking it completely off and painting, then reassemble.
on my 750B the gas tank can be opened by pretty much any small key. I lost the original keys and bought a replacement emgo ignition switch and it opens up the tank just fine.
Hi, I have the same bike. your tank cap can be open with every other key too. there is no mechanism inside. So you can open it even with a screwdriver. So if you want to use another ignition switch than Do it.
Soooooo, ya got a few bikes laying around? When you gonna think about selling one? Good stuff Mr Octane. Thoroughly enjoy and learn on every video. Have a great week.
"Im all jacked up on mountain dew" ha ha love it.So glad you are chopping that ugly rear end the bike will look badass, the purists are always going to hate but thats half the fun of it looking forward to watching you fitting that speedo. I hope you do a suzuki build in the future.
Sevenity Guitars I have the same bike. It goes under the gas tank, comes out above the carbs where it splits to all the electronics mounted behind the side panels.
Tracker is exhaust below and a scrambler is exhaust high. On my bike I'm going to try and find and find an old metal dirt bike fender and mount it to the bottom of the tree.
Man...Just seeing the bike without the seat made me think how great it would have been if you left the awesome stock rear-end frame, plastics and tail light, and brought it closer to the frame at the same position you placed the hoop in the video, making the bike into a café racer giving the bike its own character from stock parts and beeing a bit more different than the rest of the builds escaping from the same brat look. Still I’m sure I will enjoy the outcome, keep up the good work.
Every one does scrambles or cafe bike it would be more cool to see a classic race bike look. Look or maybe a retro mode. I have. 81 kz750 I'm shooting for a retro mode on mine pod filters exhaust and a set of 79 z1900 bars. Cause like you say the knucklebars look terrible.
There's one of these on Facebook marketplace in my area right now with just 12k miles and all stock. Runs great, he says - just needs a new battery and a set of tires. $500! it's a 1980 model.
Buy it!! That's a great price! I ride an 81 kz750,with a dealer installed Vetter fairing. All silver, with pinstripes. It had 8k original miles, completely unmolested. Paid $1000 for it,and out of the 11 Kawasaki's I own,it's been my absolute favorite, and my daily transportation.
You didn't tell us what kind of handlebars those are. I went back through these KZ videos to see if you mentioned the brand when you replaced them. You didn't. Unless I missed it. : )
You lucky bas.....peep. $400 for a bike that gave you this little trouble....I hate you .....no I don't, I just wish I would get this lucky preferably with a 1972 Kwaka z900 😍 Anywho, did I miss it or did you forget to show us how the tank pulled up on the inside after your 48h clean-out job ? The frame on this bike looks perfect for a build like this. I'd go all in scrambler vibe: 2 pipes on the left but with a grill cover if you don't mind the heat. I know it is a long shot but you should try removing the side covers and chain cover also. Might need a rewiring after that, but would clean the bike a lot. On another note: check the piston size on the stock master cylinder and try to match it as close as you can with the new unit. Breaks are way under engineered for such a heavy bike like this. Maybe some EBC pads might help. Keep it on man! Looking forward for this build! Cheers!
Would have liked to see it go stock but its your bike i will buy all the stock parts if you want to sell i have several of these if you need parts have aftermarket exhaust i would trade for your stock one
Regarding headlight mounts - I put these chrome mounts on my 1977 CB550F cafe' racer and they look great, in my opinion. Very clean, solid, and simple: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00RUEAJSW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Oh, and if you are going for a scrambler look, it seems like you should put the exhaust up high with a heat shield. If you are going to do anything off-road with this bike, you don't want to risk damaging the header pipe (or pipes) or even the muffler if they are down low like for a street bike. Just my 2 cents.

You don't have all the videos for this in your playlist. I think the second one at least regarding the carbs. Thanks for the videos.
Thanks, looks like I was missing one. Just added it.
I hate to say this because I have 10 motorcycles but since that 1 is so stock I think I would leave it alone put new handlebars and call it good

No Flat Brat Seats for the Ironhead Sporster?
Hey can you please let me know if you find a frame hoop that fits! I have a ‘80 kz750 twin and I can’t find one wide enough
