On the air filters take them off and make sure the rubber inside is not restricting the ports at the rear of the carb. I bought a XS650 with the same carbs and K&Ns and they had already been trimmed. Great videos and love your Triumph and the build.
Great video. Good tip on the impact driver. My first bike was an '83 and it had JIS screws holding the clutch cover in place. I tried removing them with no luck. That's when Dad introduced me to the impact driver, which did the trick nicely. A very useful tool.
Its amazing on the different forums how many of your fellow country men on your side of the pond actually thing that JIS is just a different type of Philips drive. Best tip ever about the impact driver really enjoying this build.
Nice plans with your bike. If you are going to replace your chain, I would change the sprockets to. How are your thoughts on the heat from the exhaust near your leg? Heatshield?
i was thinking about getting knobbies for my KZ750 Spectre but i honestly dont think ill be off road very often...i was initially gonna go track style but decided to go brat style instead
I'm using those exact filters and my bike runs fine. Was on 50 pilots before which seemed kind of rich at the moment but now that I'm down to 47.5 it seems kind of lean so I have to mess with it a bit more. Hope this helps some. Keep up the great work, I love the way it's coming out! Hit me up if youd like to see how mine came out. It may possibly give you some design ideas, not that it's anything great
So excited I found this channel! This is the build I want to do with 1979 KZ750 i purchased. I am curious if you had to replace the rear brake master cylinder on this motorcycle and what you used if you did. My rear brake keeps locking up when it's used and I can free it up by opening the bleeder on it. Thanks!
I like it so far and you've reminded me to get myself an impact driver and JIS bits for my old Honda. To me the bike could be given a bit of a lift at the back with some slightly longer shocks. In my mind it's going to look a bit dumpy and weighty as it pretends to have some off road credentials with the exhaust and bars. Lifting the rear might open out the lines a bit and give it a slightly more sprightly and buoyant look. Can't wait to see the exhaust job. I prefer the 'at work' sequences without music.
Hi Taylor I know you are all set for the seat on this bike, but would you consider a single seat for future projects? Not exactly like you have on the Triumph, but more padded and perhaps wider, old BMW R75 style, so to speak. Perhaps you'd be able to fit two, on the right bike....(just a thought). Keep it up, your videos are always great!
Lookin good, only thing i have to say is with the exhaust, its gonna be a little loud right next to you, I can attest to having pipes right up next to me, but im sure it will look good
I hung my smaller battery in a 1.5mm steel sheet box of the big center stand. It tucks away that you can’t see it but this mite not be a good idea on a scrambler
Yo! Anyone own a 1977-1979 kz650 C1? I need to rebuild my carbs for an Uni pod set up, any idea where I could get jets? Oh BTW are you gonna ditch that center stand? I'd like to snag it off of you if possible.
If those pods are the el cheapo Emgo style, they're junk. K&N and Uni brands have a small velocity stack built in to them to help collect and smooth the air. The cheap ones don't and the inner shoulder that acts as a stop against the carb throat even partially blocks the idle circuit. The bike will run with these but you will never get it to tune anywhere near as good without some sort of velocity stack. Have a look at the carb boots that go to your airbox, velocity stack on the airbox side.
It’s more of a work table than a lift I guess. I use a 10 foot long 2x8 to get the bikes up there. I put casters on the bottom so it rolls around nicely.
You want K&N style pod filters that don't have the lip on the inside. Otherwise it blocks the air jets around the inlet. 4into1.com/set-of-2-chrome-performance-oval-pod-filters-54mm-honda-cb-cm400-450-cx-gl500-650/
How about some filters similar to the ones on this Triumph flat tracker. No side panels, use them as a feature. ua-cam.com/video/z0ELTzqN278/v-deo.html
Just commenting to bump my comment on your previous video about tuning twin cv carbs with pods and reposting the forum link www.hondatwins.net/forums/63-fuel-supply-carburation/23714-cb400-cv-carbs-pods-how-make-them-work-5.html
My first street bike was a honda cl350. Grew up riding dirt, so an enduro was the answer. Put the knobbies on and laid her down every time it was wet. I loved the bike, but not a good dirt bike...not a good street bike. Stay dry :) peace
Putting knobbies on road bikes is probably the worst motorcycle fad of the last 50 years. It’s the motorcycle equivalent to man-buns and below the ass pants.
1. Tires look great.
2. Excited to see the exhaust.
3. Impact driver FTW. Love mine, I use it all the time.

Those tires look fantastic on that bike, definitely the right decision bro
Gonna get that impact driver for sure! Stripped some bolts already...
Dude! I've wanted to do something with a kz750 for SO long. This is awesome. I've had lots of trouble with cupping on those exact tires on the road.
i was thinking about getting knobbies for my KZ750 Spectre but i honestly dont think ill be off road very often...i was initially gonna go track style but decided to go brat style instead
@@lvwrx I'm doing a brat style 550 right now.
@@rulehardgarage9740 very cool!!! if i had better editing skills i would post my build on my channel...do you have vids of your build?
@@lvwrx Not yet but soon. I have other motorcycle videos though. Check us out. Gs550 and cb750 builds coming up.
Cupping?
Looking forward to the scrambler exhaust build! In the middle of one myself right now... tires look badass!
Tires look great. I'm enjoying this build.

I’m setting up a KZ 750 twin on pods and I was just wondering what your elevation was when you settled on that size pilot jet
tt100 round chrome webber style filters will look great
got a great escape feel about it
Beautiful bike! What size tires are you running? The link you supplied doesn't work.

Turning out awesome Taylor!! The best filter pods are both American made “54mm S&B washable or bike master. K&N rc ovals are awesome but expensive.
S&B filter pod, maxi flow RC135...55mm high performance washable 👍
RC 234 are small 55mm pods and could work better depending on your tray for your electrics.
tires do look solid. nice choice.
I was WONDERING how you got the bike up on that table!! Glad you explained it, Taylor. Must still be difficult though? 🏍👍🏍
Did you figure out which pods to run
What size tires did you go with? You never told us...
The tires look great!

This channel is growing on me keep it up.
Any chance you share a link to the jets you bought? Going with the K&N RC filters but wanna know which ones you ended up with.
Exhaust up that high might melt your inner thigh too! Ouch.

Bike is looking sick!
Does this bike come with a tub of burn ointment
Wouldn’t you burn your leg if you put the muffler that far forward?
And I think it would look really cool with some taller shocks in the rear👍🏻
What size tires did you go with?

Have you ever shortened forks?
I've never seen tires like that on one of those bikes before. I'm waiting to see what you do with the exhaust.
Damn what a difference those tires make. That exhaust will look mean. Id go with k&n filters.
Looks wicked nice
When you are replacing the chain you should get new sprockets. Otherwhise you will be changing both soon again ;)
awesome video as always, keep em coming! I was looking for the link to the exhaust collector but didn't see it...
Sorry, I forgot to add that one. Here ya go amzn.to/2VCqppt
Love the tires i think you will find out that the carbs wont perform well and not very tunable i know the dual vm34 kit is expensive but well worth it
Great video Taylor!
Where can a Canadian get one of those Classic Octane shirts?
You should be able to order one from my site classicoctane.com/ I ship all over the world. Thanks!

hi I want to put pod filters on a cb 250n does anyone know what I should re jet it to?
i understand the reason behind removing the center stand...but i love mine on my bike. wish all mine had them.
Luckily with the exhaust up high, it will be easy to put up on a motorcycle jack for maintenance.

Do you sell any of these bikes or just build them for your own personal use?
I sell most of them. The Triumph I built for myself though.

❤😂😊
hows that 2x4 lift work exactly ?
It’s more of a work table than a lift I guess. I use a 10 foot long 2x8 to get the bikes up there. I put casters on the bottom so it rolls around nicely.
We need to meet up and ride I'm only 100 miles away but ride over there 2 a month at least.
what gearing are you going with
I will see how the factory gearing feels then decide if I want to change it up.
Looks great. Needs taller shocks.
I think you’re right. I’m going to wait until the seat comes in to get a good look at the bike overall, but I’m thinking an inch higher in the back.
If you look at my videos you'll see I use a very similar lift. Mine is much lower and longer (for choppers)

!!!!!!!
I know this is a popular type of build but I bet we will look back in a few years and cringe at how we messed up these classic bikes
