I got this game (and the rest from the sh series but this one i like the most) because i wanted to calculate and fire torpedoes, intercept convoys and all the stuff not just push 2 buttons ... so no, you are not the only one and if you ask me realism over 70% it's the way to go. :)
+chapmasi 92% realism is solid start. But I heard about true hardcore players who play in real time, without using time compression, locked whole month in small room in basement. That I call dedication! :)

This scenario makes no sense at all. After the first torpedo hit on the escort, the carrier would have increased speed and turned away from the threat. The way it's played here, the carrier doesn't change course, doesn't increase speed, it just sails along waiting to get torpedoed.
Barbara Sherwin that carrier looks more like an illustrious class aircraft carrier than the couragous class. the stern of the couragous was quite open not concealed and the superstructure looks different too.
Nice, although, firing at the DDs before firing on the CV... unnecesary risk IMO. On a sidenote, the U-29 was actually VII - A type U-Boat, which was not modelled in the game. They had limited fuel capacity and maneuverability due to having only one rudder compared to the successive type VII - B.
+MrPaseante Red ones, acoustic torpedoes. Cons : they can be disturbed by multiple ships, you should launch them only when in "All Stop" configuration, and stay static for a while after the launch
I have no idea why anyone would play this game on low realism and/or without some kind of megamod like GWX. Not trying to be a dick but this is just not impressive at all. On proper realism at least one of your shots wouldn't even have worked because the angle was too severe. It would have bounced off the hull. This is just total easy mode.

Used to play silent service 1 on the old commodore 128 in the late 80`s, that could be a real challenge when in realism mode.

Escorts don't chase? In other simulations they would be all over you after the first torpedo hits, and the rest of the convoy zig zags like crazy.
The carrier is one of the Illustrious-class not the Courageous-class and the Courageous had only 2 escorts (2 destroyers) and not 4.

You should try the same mission in 1945.....its much more difficult.
SH3 is the best part from the whole series and so far I have not beaten anything, greetings to SH3 fans and many frags
