I came to this video because in my devotion time I was studying Matthew 7:7. That verse says "Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on asking, and the door will be opened to you.
Michele expressed this verse so well and I was reminded of what the Lord kept saying to me all August long "Sereca, you have not because you ask not."
So many times we lose out in life because we refuse to ask for help. This video was a reminder to keep asking for help, just like Matthew 7:7 says.
Thank so much for this video, it has helped to disrupt my way of thinking in a good way and I now have learned that "asking for help is a strength, not a weakness." So powerful

LotusEater you can always ask someone to help you, if you keep it all inside it troubles you more and more. You are not a burden, talk to someone you trust and who will listen to you. I did the same thing a couple of months ago. I felt I was too old to feel the way I was feeling, I felt like people would call me "a toddler" for being scared of what I was scared of. I let myself get to the point where I was so upset that I blew up. People then realized that I was struggling very badly. Don't let yourself get to that point. I believe you're strong enough to ask for help, you need to believe that too. Stay strong :)

LotusEater. This is my struggle too. I am having extreme financial difficulty and I am afraid to ask my friends for support; I think it's a combination of fear (of rejection), shame and ego.

As a man, asking for help is seen as a sign of weakness. At least it is for Black men like me. You're suppose to already have everything figured out. I had mental illness problems and I was told to man up. Asking for help only opened me up to humiliation. So, ever since then, i dont tell anyone my personal issues.

She's a real inspiration. Thing is not every disabled person like herself are as well educated, informed, and have this good personality or opportunity. Many people like herself can't make a decent living and cannot get around on their own and if they find themselves out on the street like this trying to buy groceries or something some thug may come up and try to rob them - that's the truth. My heart goes out to her but she seems to have her life under control so all the power to her. And people who can't seem to bring themselves to ask for help are sad and I've got a friend like this - I think she perceives asking for help as a weakness and this is sad and isolating.

Instead of being a thin skinned, windbag would you like to demonstrate how it is that I am wrong for believing in upward mobility? How is yearning for success bullshit?
Also I saw how you commented about feminism, stating that not all feminism is bad in which I must respond by saying the first 2 waves of feminism actually accomplished in achieving equality among the sexes. However, todays 3rd wave is nothing but a bunch of therapeutic, sociocentric, Marxists who live in a quixotically wet dream.
I never use the term: "Feminazi"... Because the Nazis actually got stuff done.

Yearning for success is good, I don't think that was his point, but wanting something won't guarantee success lol. Trying is not always enough, doing your best is not always enough. Reality is not some kind of cow you can milk and get milk every time, it's not a predictable fairy tale. Sometimes, you try your best but you can't succeed, that's life.
It should go like this :
"When you want to be successful as bad as you want to breathe, then you will try much harder therefore you will have more chances to succeed"
But yea it's a cute quote and it's motivational for what it's worth, not bad.

Sandcastle • It is. You just have to work at it. My mom wanted to become a nurse, but, her parents couldn't afford to pay her tuition, so, she worked hard and paid all of it herself, all the way through graduate school. This goes to show that you can do anything you put your mind to.

Asking for help is fine when your difficulty is clearly visible like hers... nobody will deny help to someone who is clearly physically incapable of doing something. If not for kindness, they'll do it to not look bad, since others can also clearly see what's going on.
But when you have a less visible physical problem (like chronic pain) or a mental issue, people will just sneer at you and judge you more if you even consider asking for help. To them, you're a liar and just fishing for attention and pity.

To feel that asking for help is a weakness is to be ruled by the construct of your ego. To achieve on your own is wonderful but there's also nothing wrong with asking for help. I believe there is a confusion here between getting help and having someone do something for you entirely, as well as the difference between the physical abilities of someone who is disabled and someone who isn't. Take your pride and ego out of this topic for a second and use your perspective capability and empathy to hear what this woman is saying.
