Hey DIYers never touch your pop off valve. Only touch it to replace it. It’s not a drain relief valve it is for emergencies only. Trust me. Once you touch it they will leak.

Funny I have opened mine several times with no issues, including in the video I made about flushing the water heater.
      Thanks for watching.

Many manufacturers recommend cycling your P&T valve yearly to ensure the spring is not only working but also to remove debris accumulation that would otherwise cause your P&T valve to stick open if the pressure accumulated enough for the spring to compress. If you are maintaining your own equipment you should perform such a maintenance task regularly on new P&T valves. However, if you are a service worker and are not sure if it has been tested regularly it is better to leave it be as the debris that may be lingering may cause the P&T to stay open

      It’s T&P not P&T😂🤣

And nobody ever regularly tests their T&P! We don’t live in a plumbing paradise!

Unpopular opinion don’t open the tmp unless your junking the water heater and replacing it. The reason is that the internal spring mechanism can go bad and once in a blue moon that error could screw u out of 45 minutes and the cost of a new t&p valve
