I love how the further away an area is, the more it looks like a painting or an image. Idk if they actually replace the distant objects with an image, but seeing this effect in bloodgultch is something to behold. Its an amazing design and artistic choice I think

It's pretty clear from what you've said that they didn't think Dark Souls would be modded. It makes some sense since it was sloppily ported from console. I guess they didn't want to waste time refining their code, and just shipped the game out in a state that was good enough.

@@rabbyd542 if you quit out before you actually die, you respawn at the fog gate with your progress in killing the sides of it saved, usually you go to one side, kill it, quit out then drop down and do the other side and if you're really not confident, quit out again before going to actually kill it

Hey inferno, I know you talk about how much people tune out in regular vids when you get into the technical stuff, just wanna let you know I love this stuff, I've watched all of your mod in depth stuff on this channel multiple times.
map is pretty fun but with sorcery i found it easy to cheese the first black knight and you can hit the one on the cliff outside of the boss fog (not sure if this is true but i remember shooting him and he didnt react) couldnt cheese the silver knight base though, i just ran in and hoped riposting would help me stay invulnerable for long enough
Just finished this myself, was quite interesting. My only criticism is that I feel it was a little overkill to remove the knights' riposte capability. Backstab, sure. Those are too easy and powerful. Riposte is harder and more rewarding though, so when it's disabled there's zero reason to parry (better to just block or dodge) and you end up fighting the boss by just whacking away at it like you're chopping down a tree that fights back. The greatsword knight in the cave can eat a dick, too. Took me about eight tries to beat him because most of his attacks erase your entire stamina bar AND your entire health bar in one go. I had to get real lucky with my dodge rolls to finally beat him.
Wait, dark souls puts your retrieval soul pile outside of the boss arena? That doesn't sound right, I don't remember that ever happening. At least not for 1
Because that's not really a thing. Your bloodstain position depends on where you were a few seconds before death. So yes, if you die immediately upon entering a boss fight, it may spawn outside the fight but that's all there is to that.
I think they bound the npcs to the levels for them to not follow you all the map. The npcs have an area which they can move freely and out of this area they back up to their area
The way certain things are tied to the map is kind of reminiscent of memory banking on very old consoles, it may have its roots in a lot of the devs coming from back in those days but that's complete speculation and is probably wrong.
Hey Inferno! That is an interesting pipeline you got there for designing your level for this mod. Btw a junior game designer here who is still doing game design in my university, I would recommend using unity terrain editor to design your levels and then port it over to the software you are using to mod as a model fbx file, as it is more user friendly and should speed up the process then actually modeling it in 3ds max from scratch in the future if you plan to expand on this. Keep up the great work and I hope it helps, a big fan of your content and dark souls in general. Still new to the modding scene, but I hope I can help you out or even start modding some levels on my own if you could shed more light on the process.

im anxious to see if you tweaked with the great shield bashes, egg head properties, (such as the replaced kick with a bite, or even if you can infect other players in a way of trolling) off hand attacks. or if you added certain cut content such as the shiva of the east quest line which is unlocked by forging the chaos blade, or a alternate ending to the sif bosss fight where if you leave sif alive after he starts limping he can walk away alive. ( made more impactful after the alternate begining cutscene)

And i though that mapping with the Gold source sdk was bad... Everytime i think about modding, i got nightmares about clipping errors, reminding me to wipe out small parts of the map to know where the heck they are...
