Mitch is a true contra-tenor, the rarest male voice, and he can hit those magnificent high notes with ease. The original Trio of Mitch, Scott & Kirstie have known each other since they children and have performed together for so long that their voices just naturally blend together now. Finding Avi and Kevin to join with them so perfectly is enough to make even the staunchest non-believer maybe think there is something to intelligent design. And now Matt has slid in their seamlessly as well. Your question about how long they rehearse before recording a song can be answered simply by saying that each group member is heavily involved in arranging the cover songs they choose to perform, which allows them to perfect each song during the arranging process. On their originals, they have either all been involved in the songwriting process OR they arrange their own parts on the song to once again perfect the blend.
Not only is the song beautiful but they look beautiful too!
This is so beautiful. Their angelic voices are magnificent.
This is one of the few arrangements where they forego beatboxing to add a fifth singing part. It turns out Kevin is a talented and marvelous singer as well as a beatboxer. It's like pulling the goalie in hockey to get five players on the ice instead of four.
The harmonies are amazing, Kirstin is stunning, everything is about perfect. One of the few songs where Kevin adds his voice to the work in lieu of beat boxing and / or cello. Just an instant classic...
I love this performance, as I especially love the ones with no beat boxing or other percussive adornments.

Kirstin, Scott and Mitch have known each other for 20 years, and have been singing together from a very age, and PTX have been around for 10 years. Before PTX they were known as the trio.
Their song praying and sorry not sorry shows mitch's vocal range,so good.

Just for fun, here's a small clip of this same song, same PTX arrangement, as sung by the A Cappella Academy choir, rehearsing for a formal performance. The academy was co-founded in 2014 by Avi Kaplan (PTX's former bass who sings in the video you just watched) and Ben Bram (longtime PTX producer/arranger) - a 10-day intensive Summer music camp for 12 to 18-year olds from around the world.
