The purpose of the artist proof Swamp Thing is for customizers to customize their Swamp Thing to their liking. So if you don't like the all Green version you can add different multiple colors of green and brown and add your own special touch to it.

If that was really a high demand thing, a whole bunch of companies would be producing flat grey figures and shipping them out to customers that purchased fully painted versions. And if anyone wants to do that, they can just paint the thing. Do it as is, or even start off with spraying it with some grey primer, then custom paint it.

This is funny to me. I tried reading New 52 Swamp Thing and didn´t like it...although I loved Animal Man. Now I´m reading the Alan Moore´s run and I do like it a lot. That being said, I much prefer the New 52 design and that´s why I got the version with the horns. ...and the ones with the wings (also New 52) is amazing. I get that one may want a traditional version of character over a variation. However, the variation in the horns is minimal and looks amazing. And the same if you want to go the full New 52 version. PS And I get what you said regarding the Artist´s Proof. On the one hand it´s not as if the figure was extremely cheap. So why bother? And more so depending on the figure (this one being a Mega) as to have multiples.I could understand if they did paint some things on it (like flowers and roots). Then it´d be a variant worth buying.
Even though I really like the classic look of the Icons one, it's just way too tiny, even for that line. Ended up getting rid of all of mine except for that DC Collectibles antler winged one. Totally not the look I think of, but it's just too damn awesome. Got lucky with finding the new one in painted form at Target, so it's nice to have another pseudo-classic version again. I know they can change in size, but I would've liked it more if they made it 8 or 9 inches tops. It almost comes across as a small 1/6 scale figure....like some of those DC Collectibles Darkseid figures.

You cant purchase the Grey one on it's own because it's a Chase( unless you go the secondary market) which is cool for those that like artist proof figures or want to customize. If you want more paint apps just buy a more premium version.
The diapers are real hit or miss, it works for characters who have belts, but on nightwing or murder machine and a lot of the earlier figures like that it sticks out so badly, but I wound up swapping the limbs and diaper from the game nightwing to the comic one and fixed it, it seems the newer characters without belts are fitted properly
My friend actually got a painted version so I got to hold it for the first time recently, and the first thing that stood out was that thin ass plastic diaper. NECA gets a lot of shit with ppl calling their crotch pieces diapers, but they don't remind me of that at all...this on the other hand

I still do dislike the fact that you stated you return figures without the build a figure, but at least u are honest about it and that’s what I’ve grown to really like about your reviews the total no bull reviews. Mcfarlane usually has a lot of paint apps, I wonder if it was done to keep the cost down or maybe push people towards the artist proof? I bought one of the artists proof of the space marine figure.

I been Phucking around w/ Michael's paint pens. My Figs look way better. An it's easy. I might buy that Grey one. But Yeah it probably makes more sense to have the green under-coat to start w/ & paint on top of that (that way ya don't need that neon lime paint color). So who knows why they do that sht. Todd does alot of dumb sht, looking at these human face sculpts. WtF? Half look like their melting. An they keep making A 6'2" Batman waaaay taller than A 6'7" Joker..

Am I missing something here? NECA paints their shit to the nines and it’s in the $30-$35 and up range. The DC and Spawn line are both suffering from insufficient paint. I bought the green and the sculpt is DOPE and I can’t wait to paint it. But i shouldn’t have to. Talker you did a solid and fair review. These artist proofs are not for customizers. This is to show case sculpt. On the road to Todds 300th comic I was picking up “Artist Proof” black and white comics. They showcased the line work. It was r for my kid to hit it with her Mr. Sketch scented markers. I’m with you. Charger me more dough or make a “club exclusive” figure!

McFarlane is literally the only company that does this. So if any custom painters want to start from scratch and paint away, they can take some grey primer to it. But I wouldn't have anything to complain about if collectors weren't ordering painted figures and receiving non-painted ones.
