  • ....well, that was embarrassing......it's been a long tough winter, with little flying due to weather. Today, I did my first hand flown IFR training flight with approach (with my instructor)....as you will see.....didn't go well....but got it done. Heavily edited......but happy to admit my failures....too early to judge, but excited to improve my IFR flying skills...hope you enjoy....be gentle on the comments...Thanks.....EYZ.

    Great video - I commend you for posting this video - bumps and challenges and all!
    Hand flying in IMC or even with a hood on while also briefing the plate and following procedures (when you haven't gotten the workflow dialled in) is about as challenging as it gets!
    A few more hours of hand-flying headings, GPS tracks and setting and holding precise headings, climbs and descents while keeping an active scan going: attitude, airspeed, altitude, track will make life a lot easier, then step gradually into tuning radios and reviewing plates while rapidly dividing attention back to the scan and you'll get there!
    I did my INRAT flight test in Collingwood in the DA42 twin back in early December, 2022 - learning IFR procedures and getting the workflows down was a great part of the rating, and it makes you a better pilot overall - hang in there on the training!

    great video, im also doing my IFR training it is very stressful and it take one second to be off altitude and heading. I felt the stress in this video . but good look with the training

    Kudos to you for a very constructive attitude. IFR training -- especially (as your instructor notes) in the first 20 hours -- is crazy overwhelming. However, it gets better to the point of eventually being quite enjoyable. Thanks for sharing! Wayne (DA40 KSBA)

    Question, why aren't you repeating clearances that must be repeated such as a take off clearance?

    • @diamondeyz6333
      @diamondeyz6333  Рік тому

      Hi Marko, we were actually on a VFR flight, so no need to repeat as per IFR......the flight was a practice, mostly about hood flying and flying the approach (into an untowered airport)

      @@diamondeyz6333 Even VFR your departure airport sounded like it was controlled? Was your departure airport uncontrolled?

      @@markor2476 Departure airport was towered....but from my understanding of the CARS (Canadian Aviation Regulations) on a VFR flight, instructions can be acknowledged with your call sign, except for certain instructions, such as "hold short" instructions. Unless specifically asked to repeat, confirmation via call sign read back is sufficient, and sometimes preferable in order to reduce radio congestion. I am sure that may be different in other countries.....are you in Canada??

    I have never dipped my toe into the IFR pool, I admire you for putting this out there. Did you do your IFR ground school already? I was thinking of getting my instrument rating and using a home flight simulator setup to help me learn the procedures when on the ground.

      Hi Michael, I am working through the ground portion online.....hopefully will get through it over the next couple of months....
