still the clothing lilly designed while alive could be her favorite.
also the "house of lilly pulitzer" if you will (the lilly pulitzer brand itself) still produces new prints and designs. but you live your life and say what you want and i'll do the same

I submit that it's somewhat different. A film actor's work lives on, whereas a designer dies and can no longer produce new garments him- or herself. So, while you could say "Cary Grant is my favorite actor," it might sound best to say of a deceased designer, e.g., "Gianni Versace was my favorite designer."

I don't know when this was filmed, but Lilly Pulitzer died earlier this year. The brand is still around, but she can't be your favorite designer because she's dead.
