    Here's the color wheel download < jennarainey.com/color-wheel-guide > and the free watercolor e-book < jennarainey.com/floral-ebook > as some extra resources to help you and get you going in the right direction. Let me know your favorite color from the color wheel tutorial and if you painted along!

      I love my tertiary purplish pink color I got as well as my tertiary blue-green ocean color. Was really fun. I plan on making more with different primaries and see what I can get.

    Thank you for making that “mistake” it was transforming for me. I made a “mistake” while painting and after reflecting on you doing that I just kept with it and it ended up turning out great. I think striving for perfection has prevented me from moving on to my art journeys in the past but not any longer! You were my inspiration to start water colors and I love it! It’s all I want to do. ❤🧡💛💚💙💜

    Jenna, To A True Educator with the Heart of an Artist. This is one of those times that sneak up on you and shower you with as much delight as it does surprise. A few months ago I decided to prepare (insulate) myself during the chilly Massachusetts months ahead by returning to my self-taught drawing practice. Foraging through UA-cam the other evening I had the good fortune to come upon your channel. I have binged for hours now on the feast of information and inspiration you provide! I am a jazz musician/singer and, for me, Tone is everything. May I say that the warm inviting inclusive sound of your voice has provided a wonderful feeling of what might be possible if I only apply the same Love I have for the study of Music, to Watercolor! Your patience instantly reminded me of a teacher I studied with in grad school whose guidance significantly changed my artistic life. It also prepared me for a lifetime of teaching music as well. All I can say is Thank you for all that you do and for possessing one of those loving creative hearts that embraces everything and everyone. For me, finding your channel is like striking creative gold! I look forward to spending the months ahead learning and laughing my way to becoming a student of Watercolor!

      Wow. You are tremendous at verbal expression. You should write a book! I feel the same about @Jenna Rainey. She is "anti-meticulous" with her palette and yet gloriously detailed in her painting. A wonder of inverse correlation.

    I've seen the best artist making videos that are quite long like 45 min to 2 hours but after watching the depth of them, I realized that those 2 hours are just the numbers. The process is so meditative and feels like a NATURAL STATE and FLOW STATE that I almost forget about the time :) And your UA-cam playlist and lessons are one of them. Thanku Jenna Rainey for making such descriptive and beautiful content. :)

At the present, I have been making little ornaments on wood slices that have turned out very well so I’m excited to try my hand at and you kind of art. I have a broken wrist right now so I am watching as many tutorials as I can before I actually begin the creative process. Magenta and Yellow makes Red. CMY are primaries.

    • @maninani6472
      @maninani6472 3 роки тому

      Not orange? When I mix magenta and yellow I get orange color...
      Edit: "On the color wheel long used by painters, and in traditional color theory, red is one of the three primary colors, along with blue and yellow. Painters in the Renaissance mixed red and blue to make violet: Cennino Cennini, in his 15th-century manual on painting, wrote, "If you want to make a lovely violet colour, take fine lac [red lake], ultramarine blue (the same amount of the one as of the other) with a binder";" (by en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red#In_color_theory_and_on_a_computer_screen)
      Well, if we stick to traditional painting, red is primary. What you are talking about is a color model used to print, so I think it does not really pertain to the watercolors.

    • @lindak7251
      @lindak7251 3 роки тому +2

      That is right!
      Red is not a color that can't be mixt, it can. The color you cant get with red and blue in the triad is light turquoise/teal and magenta, it is impossible while using red and blue. With phthalo blue and magenta you can almost get a ultramarine blue hue.
      Magenta and yellow makes red, just a itty bitty yellow though or it will be red-orange.
      How painters from the past was painting is not a indication of "true primary colors" they did not have some of the pigments we have today. When only using three colors it can be hard to mix some colors since we dont have perfect magenta, cyan and yellow wich is why many promot a split primary color wheel or a triad of mid tones like cobalt blue and permanent alizarin crimson with a yellow.
      CMY is primary colors when it comes to mixing watercolors, acrylics, oil etc, but when mixing light rays red, yellow and blue are the primary colors that can't be mixed.

I used a Phthalo Blue (Daniel Smith) with a Cotman Cadmium Red Deep Hue (I suspect the cotman red was yellowy) and it led to a very stormy looking dark grey colour which I decided was my favourite on this wheel, more will be created in the future I suspect.

    So basically when using color opposites the way to use both in a work of art is to choose one that will be more of a main color, say Prussian Blue, and then use say a warm orange in only very small accenting amounts. This livens up the visual party without major eyestrain. Do I have that right?

    This is the fourth time I’ve come back to this video since it aired and I still laugh and have so much fun listening to you guys. It reminds me to not be so “anal” with all my paintings (which is something I literally always struggle with and end up regretting!). I love that you didn’t have the oopsie edited out when you started with red-orange instead of yellow-orange next to the yellow. I mean, I think I love you for that. 😂 (No, seriously, I love you for that 🤭) It just means the world to me, and I’m sure other Type B artists, when a very successful artist and teacher shows that they, too, can make mistakes… besides, it gives you the opportunity to also show how it can be fixed! So, win-win…win. Lol
    Jenna, you’re awesome and THANK YOU for including downloads bc most of the time, the math in art is what takes me the longest and can often times be the MOST anal part of composition, for me.
    I could go on, but, suck it. Lol I’m done now. On to painting my newest RBY color wheel with different hues I originally painted it with, which I’ll then use when moving on to creating a new color chart. ❤🎨👩🏻‍🎨❤

    I'm having trouble accessing the color wheel guide. It just links back to your ebook. Is there a different link for it? Thank you for all you do for us watercolor novices!

    Always amazing (except for the too many ads, but I hung in there where I would usually switch to another video because, hey, it was you guys..fave real people lol). I am totally going to watch again, but this time, paint along with you. I mostly use Daniel Smith, Sennilier and Holbein so mine will look different, but the theory will be the same. My favorite color is Payne’s Blue Gray by Daniel Smith... I love all it’s tonal values. I know sounds boring, but for me it either punches up, defines or integrates other colors. Thanks so much for the suck you...made me laugh on a blue day lol lol.

      Hey Cher! I know those ads are a vibe-kill. I'm going to seriously look into started a Patreon to offer ad-free content for like $2 or $3 a month. It's just SO much work to do these tutorials for literally free and get zero compensation, so we leave them in (even tho we really don't get much, it's still nice to get something). SO glad you're loving the tutorials and I very much appreciate your willingness to get through those pesky ads to watch my videos. That means a lot. ❤️ Haha, and yes, math can suck it. 😂

    Bought your beautiful book and signed up for your course. Having trouble finding the color wheel template in the link you provided. The link leads to the ebook. Is the pdf color wheel in there?

    Is the color wheel template still available anywhere? When I click the link it just brings me to the beginner book. I am definitely one of those people who can’t math.

    Hi Jenna in your everyday watercolour book I just bought , you have mentioned your colours but its not clear which ones. For example Winsor Green ( which shade - blue shade, or Yellow shade ? As there is a big difference in the tone ? Best Wishes Ruth

    Hmmm. My computer and printer are "not talking to each other" these days! If anyone else has that
    problem, trace a circle, cut it out, and fold it to make the 6, at least, divisions. Those can be divided
    "by eye" easily enough. I'm excited to make this color wheel! Really!

    Why the violett is so muddy?... for all, take a cold blue and cold red than you creat a beautiful violett! (or the real primary cyan and magenta)

    Math is NOT "hard", It's just something you have to work at learning. It's just like learning a foreign language. I LOVE math; the more advanced, the better!!!

    Question ! I have heard or read that in mixing secondary colors to use a warm and cool color ex: warm red and cool blue vs like scarlet lake and Cobalt blue. Any thoughts?

      Sounds great to me! I think people should mix however they want and find what they truly love and what fits with their style! I say go for it!

      take a cold blue and cold red than you creat a beautiful violett! (or the real primary cyan and magenta). the violett in the video is very muddy because she mix warm and cold tones.

    Do you take tubes and put them in the pans or do you start with pans? Thank you.

    • @JennaRaineyChannel
      @JennaRaineyChannel  2 роки тому

      Hi Sherry! I take tubes and put them into a palette and preferably let them dry before using (it saves paint that way). I personally don't like using pans, they're good for travel, but I can't get certain brushes to mix the way I want.
