Having been fortunate enough to own both the M4 and RCF from new, I can tell you that a comparison is pointless in the real world. I can also tell you that of the two, I still feel I'm getting into something special, with a smile on my face, with the RCF as a daily driver. It's also the vehicle that get's most looks and positive comments, it sounds amazing, and oozes quality. After five issues (including brake, suspension, ECU, exhaust and engine noise issues) requiring visits to the BMW dealership within four months of ownership, the M4 was sold and replaced by the RCF. This vehicle hasn't been near the dealership since purchased in March. BMW handled sharper (Lexus no slouch either), and the torque was great once the car was moving (otherwise, traction issues off the line, especially in cold / damp / wet conditions), but overall, the RCF gets the power down more effectively, sounds incredible compared to the M4 (outside and inside...) and in my opinion is a much more rounded car. Both great cars, but in comparison, no real comparison.
Obviously I agree with your conclusions 1000%!!! I wrote an almost identical review before reading yours just now. What were the repairs like on each car respectively? I’m guessing that the BMW maintenance was roughly 2-3 times the cost of the Lexus?
I think the extra weight will be not only because of the V8 but also the 17 speakers with premium sound, a spare tire, sunroof and tons of gadgets inside. I wouldn't mind that extra weight with the benefits of the luxury items inside which contributes to the overall driver enjoyment on real roads. Plus it will be hell of a reliable car.
Yup. Good road car vs. good track car are two different things.
SP: Talking like an ignorant 9 year old with zero content added helps who, exactly? If you think it's your rep, epic fail.
Do you have an actual point? Or data?
Why is an RCF "garbage"? In what context?
BTW, I can back up my comment that a good road and good track car are different things, if you disagree with that. (Acceleration needs are one example. My G37x has fine acceleration for a back road fun car. Barely mediocre for the track.)
SP: You seem incapable of processing information.
AGAIN, the RCF is a road car, not a track car. So again, it's not centered on acceleration (which a dual-clutch transmission helps with). It's more about style, comfort, etc.
I think all luxury cars are overpriced new (not just this one), which is why I buy any such car used with low miles, and let someone else pay a huge chunk of the early years' depreciation.
Doesnt come with a spare unfortunately
I don't care about the track, if I owned either I'd barely take them there. I'd take the RCF because I'm sure it's good enough to enjoy on the open road and it sounds 10x better than that M4. I also love the interior, it's more impressive.
*****
LOL
NikoBell12 Most people don't take their cars on track, but big skids and high speeds are better to watch on UA-cam, right?
How would you know RC F sounds 10 times better than M4? I owned M4 for about 2 months now and I love the way it sounds.
Auto Express Actually his comment makes perfect sense. He won't choose the M because he doesn't care about the track. If you care about driving, you'd pick the M. If you want comfort and luxury, Lexus is the way to go.
Auto Express It depends. Whilst all of that stuff is eye candy I really care about what will actually matter if I bought one of these cars. I doubt I'd be taking either up to CoTA (2 hours away) every weekend.
m4 sounds like a vacuum cleaner
I think it's time for you to change your vacuum then.
DaniiCEO hahaha😂😂😂😂😂😂you are fucked bro. Your comment made ma day
fuck u
It's true. Downsizing may have brought, well, a few benefits but the exhaust note is downright horrible. Especially compared to the M3 E90s. Even a V6 Audi S4 sounds better. Jesus... BMW what is your excuse, I'm just dying to hear. Because you can make a six cylinder sound good, just look at the F-Type or the M3 e46.
That's a thing you would say about supercharged cars not turbocharged ones.
It sounds a bit NASCAR-like to me and that's a good thing.
But I can't tell if I like the sound or not because UA-cam will never give out the correct sound, that will only happen in person.
I am a huge BMW fan and own one myself, but last week I absolutely fell in love with the Lexus RC at Geneva show. It's lines look so special in person, whereas the M4 looks like any other Bimmer I saw that day. I also much prefer the Lexus interior.
I'm a Lexus guy but the M4 is something else in person!
lex
Lol if you can't tell the difference between a non M car and an M car you're hardly a fan
@@rwac07 I'm not sure how did you come up with this statement. It's been 7 years since I wrote that comment, in the meantime I drove some M cars (E92, F80, F87) and loved the experience, but I also drove some Porsches (incl. 991.2 GT3) and that's where my heart is.
@@OkulSmoK My point was an M3/4 look nothing alike a base 3 or 4 series. Almost every panel on the body is different along with the wheels, quad exhaust, etc. which is why its weird to see someone who's a fan of the the brand saying they look the same
I have an RCF, pretty quick, but you definitely want a little more end torque, which an exhaust/headers/tune will give you. M4 is more of a drivers car, like you can wreck a lot easier if you aren't really good. The RCF is such a nice daily driver for me, would pick it over the M4 almost any day of the week.
He was already declaring the bmw a winner while still driving the Lexus :)
M3/M4 was always the benchmark and it will remain being the benchmark forever.
Do not tell me stuff like its an ad or whatever.
Yes I am a BMW fanboy but I also like the other cars too and I am totally okay with it if you rather take the Lexus or the Merc or the Audi. But for me they will Never beat the love to a BMW or an BMW M ;)
It wont stay the benchmark forever. Lexus have made only 2 high performance cars under £100k and they've already caught up to BMW. A company which is only 26 years old and they've caught up to BMW with their mighty heritage? Thats a pretty impressive feat
Rayaan Shaikh Lexus have not "caught up" .Seconds on a track is a world of difference.Gaining .10 of a second on a track is really hard a 3.3 second difference is embarrassing
Dudley Royal It was one lap - on another day with another driver it could easily have been a 1s gap. Its all on the driver.
Rayaan Shaikh lol you say that then it could easily be a 10 sec difference with a pro driver lmao.
Actually a pro driver has done this and the RC-F came out faster on tracks with more curves
Lexus anyway. Toyota reliability.... Nuff said.
Bmw on the other hand will lost 90% of its resale value in 5 years and will be 10times more expensive to service and maintain.
gorillagirlgorilla Ignorance is pretty rampant here. The BMW has all maintenance included for the first 4 years and also has extended intervals, so maintenance will actually be quite a bit lower for the BMW.
Take a quick look at the value of a 2010 M3 and compare that to the 2010 IS F. The Sedan actually had a base MSRP about 3k less than the IS F and today's KBB private party values show an M3 to sell for 2k less than the IS F (32k vs 30k). Please don't comment on things you know little about. If you can find me a 2010 M3 for 10% of the original value, I will buy it unseen.
Man I have a BMW and it sucks balls. Got an E90 and the car is breaking everywhere.
My friend has an old supra from the 90s and that shit is still rock solid. FUCK THE BMW.
gorillagirlgorilla well im glad the e90 is giving you a lot of hassles. I hope you sell that e90 and never drive a bmw ever again. My 20 year old m5 has over 220k miles on stock engine, still doesn't burn or leak any oil and takes me anywhere for past year without breaking down even once. It's called preventative maintenance.
William Yu "preventative maintenance" is all fine by me. BUT when the most random things start falling apart... thats when you know its not a car build with durable parts.
And my car only had 87K miles. BTW also have a mercedes and its rock solid. No random shit broke in that.
On my BMW, the cup holders to roof liner, to window up and down mechanism.... all that shit broke. And OH yea pretty much all the sensors in the engine and drivetrain from cam shaft position sensor to speed sensors in wheels f'ed up. So yea..... i'd take any other car than BMW anyday based on my personal experience. IF yours working for you then good for you but from what i have seen and heard from people who own BMW..... they all say BMW stands for Burn your wallet.
+gorillagirlgorilla well put sir!
No one takes these cars to tracks. The Lexus is a better everyday road driver, better sounding engine, better reliability, better quality all for $2000 less....
That's what I've been trying to say. The majority takes uses them as everyday cars. Not even that many take them out for country drives let alone a track. This review is meh.
$20,000. Don't make me laugh.
torogami2
You have no understanding on the value of money do you? Stupid fucking kid...
The lexus is not $20,00 less. That's why I commented. Maybe you should research before commenting.
torogami2 My bad, I meant 2,000 but at the same time the Lexus come with a lot of things standard, compared to them being optional on the beamer...
Lexus RCF is so stunning in its actual form that it makes the M4 look like a cheap motel. RCF wins the look department both inside and out not to mention its reliability is superb because it's Lexus.
+Peter Hammer Lexus looks like it's made of plastic but it isn't. M4 looks premium but it's actually plastic to the touch. I wonder which one works for you better though.
+Jim A
Lexus RCF makes the BMW look like a cheap piece of trash toy car. And BMW is UGLY.
Even here in jaded car-centric Southern California, the RC F is a looker. While the M's have saturated the freeways and the upper-middle class neighborhoods, the "What is that?" RC F is spotted here and there, only occasionally. That orange one in the Home Depot parking lot...the black one belonging to the owner of the Arco franchise. The three quarter side/rear view, the sounds of heavy breathing through normal aspiration. Based on what I have seen and heard, the RC F can hold its own, without having to compete on paper or on the track with the M's. Lexus knew this full well going in. But its their confidence thing - knowing that it is inferior on the track but can stand on its own as a delight to the owner - is what I am sensing. Its almost as if the M is gunning the engine at the stoplight, but the RC F shows the palm and says, "Homie don't play that." Like a woman who might be inferior when it comes to the world's standards, but is confident and at peace with herself. It shows.
Love this, it's one the best comments I've read on a car comparison video. Beautiful.
However, I'm still going to buy an M4.
If the RC F would have been released when the M3 E92 was released, it would have been more competitive. Just the fact that the M4 is so much lighter than the RC F is a winning factor right there. I'm not saying Lexus is a few years behind in the technology, it's just that BMW seems to be more experienced when it comes to coupe sports cars than what Lexus is. Isn't the RC series the first proper coupe sports car ever made from Lexus? Though Lexus can do better, I know they can, the first one is always worse than others.
Razvan J yes, that is exactly how I was thinking, not with my first comment though of course, but making minimal profit, just as you said. But I was also thinking that Lexus is pretty much a big company and that they might just could afford losing just a bit money just to show their skills, getting more customers and getting better reputation, a bit like koenigsegg does. In fact, he loses a lot of money
xBuzz996 I think they already spent a lot of money on the LFA and now they want to try and recoup all that investment with the RCF, hence the reluctance to use a new body.
Lexus have had the SC, which was a classy comfortable cruiser with descent performance I suppose
+Elgin Lam man toyota its the most rich carmaker...
+Razvan J no, vw sell more not making more money , and is group of other carmakers toyota is only toyota
I like both but I'd take the RC F.
5:16 I can see clearly the driver is using glasses, damn this fake reviews
+Leo Phan They record the best time, few people don't understand this
+Leo Phan Introduce yourself to the concept of "video editing"
Why take one car with optional ceramics and another on steels (which you can get ceramics for) makes the test automatically loaded in the M4's favour. Get the cars with very similar options and that gap will reduce dramatically. The M4 will always beat round a twisty track that's a given but a 3-4 second difference would not be the case if the lexus was on Carbons. The motor trend review put the gap much much smaller than that, suprisingly so in fact considering how much everyone has moaned about the lexus's weight.
they drifted with the M$ in the motortrend video
@@zafert85 as well as the RC-F
No, the M4 would always win, especially with competition guise.
RC F : Better looking than M4 , more practical . more powerful, more comfortable, more luxurious and faster
really contemplating if i want to get a second hand rc f
The M4 has a $9000 option which improves performance (the Ceramic brakes) and the Lexus has the TVD option which adds weight
The Lexus actually makes M4 look a bit boring.
Yup, all bmw always looks similar, nothing stunningly new
Then again the RC-F is all about being different, why encourage it to be another BMW clone, it's still potent to drive and as far as I can see, the RC-F looks happy about being what it is
People don't understand that the RC F is a sportscar that was suppose to compete with the BMW M4 and C63 AMGs.
We're not comparing the RC 350 F-Sport, we're comparing the V8 model against them...
Just buy what you want and go live life.
4 seconds is a world of a difference...
lol a lot of people don't seem to understand that. A car half a second a lap faster in a race means no competition. This is almost a 4 second difference that is a huge difference. Especially for a car meant to compete with the m4.
@@AlexMacho765 he drove the bmw m4 more aggressively compared to how he drove the lexus an how often would you take It to the track NEVER
@@davidwade7681 don't reply to a 4 year old comment with an opinion. He's setting lap times to see which one is better. Why would he not drive the lexus to it's limit? You're either a moron or troll
1800 KG, +200KG more than the M4...YIKES ! Would love to see the M4 vs the MBZ C63S & Porsche 911 Carrera S.
I have a feeling that the guy did not try hard on the Lexus ... just a feeling!
Exactly
love all the BMW M4 haters, get over it.. the car is a masterpiece.
Auto Express So what is the camera car used in this video please?
Both very great cars, but I would still take the Lexus for the more luxurious interior, the reliability, and the V8. But if I had a BMW I would certainly be happy!
Nice cars
Motor Trend did a similar test and the Lexus was only a couple of tenths behind. It's stability in the corners helped it keep up.
when you cant handle the rear of m4, it will be as slow as the rcf...
+Bitcoin Video University M4 is ~360 pounds lighter, tighter and has around 420bhp (which is ~480 crank) based on numerous dynos. It will be much faster around pretty much any track- it's physics, no matter what motortrend has measured. RCF performance is more comparable to E92 M3, which was a great and more special car btw.
Alexei Zhukov Don't be butthurt about it. If you are rock solid in the corners, you can make up the small amount of time lost in the straights. Don't hate. Appreciate. Or better yet, educate.....yourself and check out the article.
Why aren't there many RS5 vs RCF?
this guy does the talking but in the driving footage with the car sliding around is owen mildenhall at the wheel :)
Great cars
At 5:16, it isn't even him in the car! hahahha
In your opinion which one sounds better:Lexus RCF or Mercedes C63 AMG 4,0 biturbo?
I want to see the Track Edition go up against the GTS or CS.
motor trend did a lap in both and put camera in both and put them side by side in the video. they were pretty much equally quick on a slightly bigger track. so, how did you manage to make 4 seconds difference on small track like this?
I do agree. It seems fishy. Didn't like the driver, carbon vs steel brakes, small twisty track.. How the fuck did the BMW go that much quicker while being 50+ HP down?
Kristian Niss it's ligher and torquier and has more power than bmw claims, it generally is a better car, but from what we had previously seen in a much more relevant test, it's barely any quicker than the lexus, 4 seconds on this track is a huge difference in performance and difference this large hasn't been recorded by anyone. something is very wrong here.
Motor trend known for making good commercials.
Eugene Hvorostyanov
there is no commercial if you put them side by side and show exactly how quick they are without any cheap tricks. they showed clearly how fast they are compared to each other and included perfect video evidence. here, you can't see anything, you just get the time published by an amateur driver and that's all.
Check Chris Harris video about Rcf and he clearly states that it's off the pace of new BMWs. And I'm better believe him and this channel than in motortrend nonsense.
When I watch this video I can see that when looking at the driver from outside the car had glasses on. But from the video from inside the car, he did not have glasses.
No one can beat ///M POWER! in this class (Sports Coupe).
yeah a lexus can beat "m power" in reliability
Gtr enters the chat
I've driven both; not too much but enough to form a good opinion. Personally I'd take the Lexus to live with every day because on the broken pavement here in WNY it felt more controlled over our terrible pavement. It's also got an NA engine and makes its own sound without the audio system. That straight 6 in the BMW sounds beautiful and they ruin it with that garbled V8-like nonsense getting pumped through the speakers. Also the RC tracked better on the highway and thats where I do most of my driving, I found the seats to be WAY more comfortable and the stereo was a little better. Having said that, if I was going to be throwing one around on a track, it would be the M3/M4. It has better steering and the chassis is just properly set up for that kind of abuse. I also think these two cars are aimed at a completely different type of customer though, and those customers likely will not cross-shop the Lexus and BMW.
What happened to Mildenhall?
I like both cars, they look great. Its good to see more competition out there and choices. Both are around 70K plus new but hey if you got it why not... or get a used R8. I have to say though.. I must have had some guy that was following me on the freeway smiling as he tried to catch my Mustang 5.0.. sure its a little lighter then his RC F, and only has exhaust and intake but he never could catch up to me until I braked for the exit. Was heading to a car show.
Lexus any day over any bmw
Fanboy/hater.
lmao
Ok this one is not so good but LFA
Nineq 96 im a bmw fan but i absolutely love the LFA
Agreed no matter what anyone has to say...
M4 got ceramic brakes? No wonder it did a faster time when its optioned up with ££££££ worth of brakes lol. I could probably get the RC-F to stop faster too if I spent the same amount on brakes
The only thing Lexus RCF can win over BMW M4 is reliability
BMW M is certainly the benchmark for track performance in its class(excluding Macan(x3/x4), cayenne(x5/x6), and panamera(m6 gc). However, laptimes achieved for the m4 and rcf are very close on a more open or longer track. 4 seconds on such a small track is outrageously impressive, or false! That is a completely different class time gap.Hmm...
Give me the M4 any day, at least if I'm walking up to it in public I don't have to be embarrassed about entering a hideous car
Anyone notice the man speaking wasn't the same man driving during the hot lap when camera view was outside the car it was a man with glasses and blue top driving
This track stuff is generally nonsense. I really can't imagine any one takes most of the car tested on track, any where near one. Any way regardless, I would take the Lexus. Yes its heavier, but just look at it! It looks amazing! Its also going to be a lot rarer than the M4. I would imagine its a really nice road car.
It looks amazing? Do you have eyes? Are you seeing the same disgusting mishmash of curves and edges that I am? It's uglier than the Nissan Juke.
You are naturally entitled to that view...its for precisely that reason that I think it looks great. Its uniqueness is its greatest asset!
Josh Charlie true
I think the RC F looks atrocious. Even if it were lighter, faster, and better, I would never buy it because of the way it looks.
That front grill looks so cheap and tacky, yuck!
The interior of the RC F is OK, but feels much cheaper than the M3 or the C63. Plastics feel cheap, touch pad sucks, the REAR SEATS DO NOT FOLD...
Josh Charlie yeah , i bet it would be a lot rarer as nobody buys a ugly overweight car
Going sideways, followed by "that felt like a quick lap" 😂
I just love the sound from the RCF. :)
I'll take either one if I have the money. But the real question is, which one will last longer and less on the wallet for maintenance? I'll take that one!
The lexus will last way longer then the bmw
Wow 4 sec advantage
Jeremy Clarkson said that lexus is pretty much garbage
Yeah and he was just rambling on like a big fucking idiot. That was barely even a review, it was crap. And what happened to those reviews where cars were put out in the real world (on a public road) and tested there? Not all cars are great on the track, that doesn't make them bad cars. It's so idiotic, those track-based only reviews where they dis a car solely because of how it performs there. 75% of M4/C63/RS5/RCF owners will never take these things to the track. I'm sure a higher percentage would take them out on a winding backroad drive. And that's where the RCF shines. Reviewing a car solely off of how it performs on a stupid fucking track is pure idiocracy. Jeremy Clarkson was a big fucking idiot in that review. Period.
NikoBell12
the lexus is just too heavy for what it is. if one wants s.th. comfortable, one would anyway not consider either of these cars. just face it, this lexus is crap. it has different target group then a normal lexus. it's either for people who want a fast car or want to show off. it fails in both cases, cause it's not faster then the german cars.
ps.
i would anyway prefer are alpina. it's faster in the real world then a m3, due to the fact, that the suspension of the m3 is way to drift friendly. the m3 either need tries with more grip or a different suspension setup. and a alpina d3 (the one i would prefair, because diesel are faster in the real world (less tank stops)) or b3 is more comfortable then either of these cars, faster and cost about the same ....
Yeah and just belie everything what that wise man says. Lexus made a huge step to sports cars. They will be able to be better than some German cars. I really like BMW. I think everyone who says BMW (or any European car brand) is better than Asian, he may be right. But the Asian brands are getting better (quality, price, cost, (power)).
and yet many other reviews liked the RCF for what it was
Well that settles that, forget driving the car and getting an actual opinion, Clarkson said it so that's that. And yes, I have actually driven it and it is pretty great.
in the m4 vs RS5 (the same magazine, different driver) M4 did 9:09.09.
Less torque in low revs; does it help while driving in the city and for everyday driving ???
yes especially on wet streets ;-) drove a 6.2ltr chevy corvette and it suck when launching at rainy day´s
Never had this issue with a 4.4L M62TUB... But stepping on it off start, wet or dry, there are these glorious 330 milliseconds until the TCS kicks in.
With a 6.2L and start slipping trouble you may as well launch it in second... Bam, problem solved! ;D
In a turbo'ed engine, the extra compression (ie _power_ ) comes at somewhat higher RPMs. That is, the higher the RPM, the higher the volume of exhaust, the faster the turbo (or turboes, as in M4 twin-turbo setup) spins, the higher the compression. Thus at low RPM, as in "under 3000", M4's straight-six is producing much less (brute) power, and consequently torque. Which is great for wet roads, but not necessarily driving in city. It will be a lot more fuel-efficient, however.
Now, I love my V8, but the daily driver is an 1.6L I-4...
That said, RCF looks like an awesome cruising car.
o tempo do Owen com o M4 Coupe foi melhor em quase 1 segundo!!
Are there any new cars that require driver skill without a computer to drive the car?
nice
That front grille looks like the face of predator
I must save, the new Lexus looks great
gd look at that Lexus body roll
I'm a Toyota/Lexus fanboy but I wouldn't know which to buy! They're both so beautiful!! Ahhhh
They are both amazing machines, Lexus is my first choice though.
Love the lexus
Despite m4 being better I would take rcf because of that noise.
The problem I have with this comparison and many of the other ones for these two cars is as tested price. I priced both cars out the lexus is $20k cheaper than the M4.
M4 with carbon and adaptive and DCT = $83,000
RC-F with 19in wheels and sport diff = $64,000
Even if the M4 was completely base model it would still be $70k. Would love to see a comparison of a base M4 and RC-F to see what the gap really is.
M4 is a f**king benchmark in his class
i do not CARE about the POWER!
i wanna have fun while driving my ride
my pick is ganna be always the LEXUS RCF
the exterior is PERFECT
Lexus has a way better sexy looking
Fifth gear had the Lexus RCF as faster than the BMW M4.
Fifth gear had the RCF winning against the m4 people you should check that out!!
The BMW is faster, better looking, and offers more snob appeal than the Lexus. But how often are you at the track vs normal daily driving? These cars are essentially in different classes and it’s ultimately pointless to compare them. At age 46, I’m buying the Lexus because it’ll be FAR more comfortable in real world driving and is likely to be still running in 20 years. The ONLY way I’d ever get an M4 is if it were a lease! Betcha that’d be fun too!
Just goes to show power doesn't mean everything. BMW everyday
Way better and more appealing than the m4
Lexus RCF is so appealing 😍
Very
A few twicks less weight and u got a winner...I can't gett my head around the fact wy the lexus weight s so much..sorry for the bad English:-) :-)
He said the BMW is much more fun.--I saw a big smile across his face while driving the Lexus....Let's be honest he had preconceived opinion before he started the engines. compared them from a rolling start...Let's compare their repair sheets at 60,000 miles...That will take that smile off your BMW loving face....
If the track was wet the Lexus would have been 5 seconds quicker, that is why it is the superior road car with brilliant reliability, and customer service from Lexus
If you believe those times with the BMW drifting like it was, you've been tricked!
This BMW M4 is one of the best M cars they have made. Really does so many things right.
If he could have manage to do a more neater lap with the M4 I'm sure the time would have been less than 1m.10sec.
brakes give up????? bull... I abused a RC-F at Homestead in Miami and at 1pm hot as hell the brakes were predictable ... weight distribution was also easy to manage...
turn 1 at full speed destroys the brakes of any car .. the Rc-F actually held up better than my Race car.
I bought an RC F because the BMW M4 interior was cheap imo. Plus in the UK at least BMWs are so common and I'd say the M4 is the most common sports coupe. Especially because of the PCP finance deals. It just looks like a normal BMW with twin exhausts and a bonnet bump.
Wow the m4 raped the Lexus! Over 3 seconds in the little track is massive! Not to mention, Owen mildenhall did a 1:09.9 in the m4!
I like Lexus RC F vs BMW M4 super-coupe battle - Auto Express
How can anyone say they would have the RCF. Madness!! Err what car do u drive err a Lexus!!! Ok is that your dads car! Or what car do you drive M4 m8 or I drive an AMG. Haha boss man king of the road legend!!
RCF engine in an M4 would be perfect tho
Not really
DrCocaine Ye
yeah, that synthetic sound which is unbearable for any bmw enthusiast suits it perfectly, screw the high revs and responsiveness of NA, right?
MyRealName
Why would you take RCF engine when BMW had a better V8 already? :P
Mzn T if it's a choice between the current turbo inline 6 and lexus v8, it's the lexus v8 i prefer. but if we take the v8 from e92 m3, ofcourse it's a more preferable option than both of these.
the best engine is na inline six from e46 and e36 for bmw m3
The Lexus RCF is lighter, faster, cheaper upfront AND in the long run, more agile, arguably better looking, and has far far superior reliability
I love everyone that tore into the Lexus. Folks it was 4 seconds slower around the track, 4 SECONDS. And from what I could here of the engine revs, the guy wasn't keeping it on the power band very well, and those 4 seconds could have been driver error. Not to mention, when one of those twin turbos goes out, you will be able to by a Mustang for what the repair bill will be on the BMW. On top of that, 3 steering modes, 3 damper modes, 3 gearbox modes?? This is a road car, not an F1 car.
+283blood Dude- do you actually watch auto racing?! 4 SECONDS, on most tracks is a HUGE MARGIN!
+283blood I agree about your turbo comment, that's why I have a '15 C63 507.
Dude! - Its a road car, not a race car, pay attention, there will be a pop quiz later. You want a race car, I can name you twenty in this class of car that will leave both of these in the rearview mirror without even straining.
+283blood I think you don't understand that weight can be felt on the road as well. None of these cars are race cars Dude! We are talking about a huge weight difference, that will definitely be felt in whatever you do in the RCF... getting milk at the corner store, turning into your driveway, everything. That's the point.
If you don't care about how a car turns in, how quickly it changes lanes, or how fast it pulls away from a light, then get a Camry... it would be a much better choice than the RCF. And you'll save a ton of cash!
+Fluterra No Dude, you don't understand the car market or apparently positioning a vehicle to be viable in certain categories of sales. Number one, Lexus is a Luxury car brand designed for sale in the that market stream. It's not a boy racer as you seem to want to make it. Its for upper middle class and above 40-50 year olds that want a comfort car for touring, but want the car to go fast for a little excitement if they feel like it around town. The key here is they want to be comfortable, but a little sporty. The marketing folks at Toyota aren't stupid, hence they are the largest volume seller worldwide. The F series was designed for touring, not street racing. It does just what Toyota wanted it to do, and they sell plenty of them not only in this country but worldwide, and they do it cheaper than BMW, Audi, and Mercedes on the average by quite a bit, and to them a 4 second difference in a mile run is not that big of a deal. I'm willing to bet that you are under 35 years old sport. When you get to be 50, come talk to me again about what kind of car you want, and what matters most, cornering and speed, or comfort and the car will go fast when I want it to and not spill my mocha latte. That's why the Europeans came up with Grand Touring (that's actually what GT means) sport models. If these folks wanted a race car, they would probably go buy a new Corvette instead. Since they sell a crap load of F series vehicles in this country, apparently a few people agree with Toyota/Lexus on how the IS F and F series are designed. The customer is always right, if you want to stay in business.
This is how I see it ! If you want a track car BMW ,hands down its in it DNA! They been building performance vehicles for a long time. Lexas has luxury in it DNA! They need more time and refinements to match BMW!
Out of all video comparisons between these two cars, this one showed biggest lap time difference for the M4. Suddenly M4 is better planted, while on the other videos is more tail happy than the RC-F. I wonder is it because of the driving style?
4 seconds a lap difference on a short course when everyone else can get them within a second - I'd say it's a BMW advertising campaign.
the rc f is, according to everyone, heavy, not well planted, and not that good a sports car.
Christopher Carydias It's either that or that guy really can't find his way in the Lexus. Motor Trend in their comparison, for example, was really suprised how the lap times were so close, when M4 demolished RC-F on drag times and braking, and the conclusion was the RC-F behaves much better in the turns (M4 was sliding it's tail much more). And this was the conclusion in other videos as well. Suddenly, M4 is better planted... Don't know what to say.

Different drivers and different tracks. If you just want to review track performance, you need to have a handful of drivers test a car on different tracks. Some cars fare better on some tracks than others and then have their weaknesses show deeper on some environments. For example, if you have a very low powered but great handling car on a slow track with lots of corners, you probably won't notice it's power deficiency that much and that will be helped with said handling. but show it a very fast track and a heavier but more powerful car can probably beat it.
As for the M4 in particular, you really need to be a good driver to get the most out of it! If you watch Evo's video on the BMW M4 vs Porsche 911 Carrera, Marino Franchitti talks about how difficult it is to put really fast lap times because of how tricky traction is on the BMW. And if you have a very heavy footed driver, the slower the BMW is. If BMW made small changes on the drivetrain (longer gearing) or the throttle response and fixed the traction issues, the M3/M4 would be much faster, especially with non professional drivers.
Kodreanu23 If the M4 was sliding it's tail much more and they were supposed to be on a hot lap then they need to get a better driver.
BMW M4 is better car than Lexus RC-F, they both were made to give you pleasure from driving and being good on the track. (super-coupe track battle, not "how big trunk you have/how much petrol it needs/how much family friendly is that car")
It's like saying "Golf GTI is much better car than Aventador because with it you can drive with 4 people, but only with one in Lamborghini!".
If you're choosing RC-F for a daily car, then I think there's something wrong with you. If you want comfort and luxury you wouldn't choose Lexus, but Maserati, Mercedes or something like that.
+Eazy E its about time someone said it,did people misunderstand that the point was to see how well the cars performed when pushed, not how well the cars drive to mcdonald's and back.
Reliability is what matter most for me. I choose the Lexus
damn that rcf is so sexy
If Lexus used turbos this m4 would be blown out the water, although I am kinda happy that Toyota and Lexus use almost all N/A engines.
4 seconds are bascially no difference on open street. Those are razor edge sharp close cars in terms of feeling and performance.
I was sure that Mortor trend track comparison time was total BS, 4 seconds difference sounds more logical than MT 3/4 second shiiiiiiiiiiit.
at 5:13 its a totally different person that drifts the car his wearing glasses
This guy is not even driving the car. The guy drifting the car is wearing glasses and this joke is not. Too funny
+SmokeEater0315 Spot on, fake result
Lol yuppppp
