I loved that you recognized almost everyone! Oh, and quick fun (and lovely) fact... Remember Wham's "Last Christmas"? Well, it was released that same week and, because Wham were at the peak of their fame then, it was on track to be their 4th No.1 single of 1984 (and their 1st No.1 Christmas hit). But then "Do They Know it's Christmas" happened in only 48 hours, and not only did George Michael immediately said yes to being part of it, but he also gave all royalties from "Last Christmas" to Band Aid's Trust. And Band Aid's single kept his own song off the charts No.1 spot. So, worth remembering that "Last Christmas", one of the most beloved Xmas songs EVER, never reached No.1 (well, until last year and I think this year, too) and ALL the royalties go straight to Band Aid's Ethiopian famine relief, IN PERPETUITY.
We are the world couldn't hold a candle to this. Band Aid was genuine We are the world was an exercise in oneupsmanship. Remember Do they know it's Christmas was written, musicians assembled, record and documentary finished in roughly 48 hours. A remarkable feat.
@@Shabenn Indeed it was, and to make it happen he pushed people very hard to do the right thing, right now. That's what I mean by bullying. Perhaps super persuasiveness might be a better term to have used.
You talked over just about the best line in the song 'Well, tonight thank god its them instead of you'. Bono took one helluva lot of persuading to sing it
Music written and song produced by Midge Ure of Ultravox who also played all instruments except Phil Collins drums. Lyrics written by Bob Geldof who started the whole thing. From open doors to record played on radio one was 24 hours or something similar. Set up Live Aid concert six months later. I read somewhere that We Are the World recording there was allegedly lavish plates of luxury food for the stars, but at Band Aid if you wanted a sandwich you had to pop to the local shop to get one!
@@scottirvine121 why ? Boy George is his professional name and sadly his voice is nowhere near as good now he's much older. Not quite sure what's funny ? 🤷
So the first guy you couldn't name after Sting is Tony Hadley - lead singer of Spandau Ballet :) There was also Paul Weller, Status Quo (who opened the live aid concert), Midge Ure who helped organise this with Bob Geldof, Bananarama to name a few more for you :)

@Shabenn Oh yes. If you watch the documentaries, nearly everybody he asked immediately said no but he pushed them until they agreed to join in. Boy George forgot to come so he made him get on the next concord and fly over on the day. All the stars that took part when questioned at the time all said that they had no idea where he got their number and that he just would not take no for an answer. Good bullying! Well done Bob. I am old enough to remember 1985 very well.
Perhaps you should now react to Canada's response for Ethiopia after Bandaid and USA For Africa, Canada created Northern Lights - Tears Are Not Enough. Lots of recogizable faces there too.
You had George Michael. Paul waite, Phil Collins sting bananarama Duran Duran boy George and culture club, Spandau ballet, boomtown rats, U2, Kool & the gang, Jody watley,, and some others. The only American bunch that was there was Kool & the gang. they have the same manager as some of the others and they just happen to be over there and they were invited to be a part of it. Side b was 2 spoken messages one by Paul McCartney and the other one by David Bowie . because they weren't able to be there to sing on the song . Sp they sent a message about the charity and helping feed the hungry and Ethiopia.
Where can I correct you you're saying it was to do with families and stuff it was actually really just to do with people who are starving in Ethiopia and the rest of Africa that's what the song was
Great song. I always preferred this one the original to any updates. I can't believe some are criticizing as stereotyping or dehumanizing Africans when all people are doing is trying to help people in trouble. I guess that shows the influence of wokeness.
I think the re-release should be for raising money to send all the illegal immigrants back to whence they came, be that Africa, Asia or from anywhere else. Ps, and also change the lyrics of the chorus to - 🎵Free the West🎶
BOY GEORGE SLAYING THE VOCALS HAIR & MAKEUP ❤️💯
Very impressed, your the only reaction video that knew most of the artists

it’s great that you actually know who most of them are because most don’t 😆
I missed Paul Weller and he had been a great discovery for me. I wish I knew about his music years ago

This is the original multi-artist fund raising song.
Between the sales of this record and the bandaid concert they raised £52 million for africa
You need to check out Slade’s 51yr old classic, Merry Xmas Everybody…their 6th No.1 way back in 1973 and has just charted again in the uk
Love it 🙂
