The people you didn't identify singing - Paul Weller (Style Council), Midge Ure (who along with Bob Geldof arranged the recording - from Ultravox), Martyn Ware (heaven 17) singing harmony with Marilyn. In the mass chorus are Kool & The Gang, Jody Whatley, Status Quo plus the other members of the bands Ultravox + Duran Duran + Spandau Ballet & Boomtown Rats. Boy George wasn't actually there and his stuff was inserted later (the next day I believe) which is why he seems somewhat isolated in his bits.
Wrong. He was there but he got there late. He was in a hotel when they called him, he had to fly in from Paris. They were already recording the song by the time he got there and he had to do his part separately.

The guy you didnt know at 7:16 in the video is Paul Weller of The Jam/Style Council and solo career. Mainly a UK star as sadly those acts didnt make a splash in the US
Nooo The Jam we’re massive in the UK , Most of the songs they released went straight to number 1 without any airplay on the radio…. Hits include ….A Town called Malice , Elton Rifles, Going Underground, Down in a tube station at Midnight, The Bitterest pill. Paul Weller then formed another group called The Style Council had loads of chart hits with them too, Shout to the top, Your the best thing, The lodgers, Long hot summer. His music maybe unknown in the States but ask anyone growing up in the 80’s 90’s who Paul Weller is and they would tell you.
Bono didn’t want to sing the line “well tonight thank god it’s them instead of you” but Bob Geldof knew it would have the biggest punch to the listeners. And it did. I still get chills when he sings it. A lot of people need to watch the BBC doco that inspired Bob Geldof to do something. I still remember when l was 7 when this came out and the footage of the starving children with a thousand flies around them.
Hi Lovely Sassy, Hi Hank, The guy Hank didn't know is Paul Weller who was the lead singer with a group called The Jam, other artists that were there were Bananarama, Duran Duran, George Michael, Phil Collins, Spandau Ballet, Status Quo members Francis Rossi and Rick Parfitt, Sting, Midge Ure, and much more, Big Country are a Scottish rock band, singer Stuart Adamson was also the guitarist with Scottish Punk band The Skids in the 70s, how about Slade, Merry Christmas Everybody and Wizzard, I Wish It Could Be Christmas Every Day, 2 classic Christmas tunes for you Sassy!! 😀 😀 🎄🎄🎅🎅
Hi Terry, Thanks for the info. I remember The Jam, here in the States their big hit was a Town Called Malice. I have that on my 80s playlist. Wasn't Paul also in Style Council ? My ever changing mood, was their hit.
@@humbertofarias5980 my favourite song by The Jam was Going Underground, he certainly was, when The Jam split up in 1982 Paul Weller formed The Style Council, another hit of theirs was Shout To The Top!! 😀 😀,I'm from Scotland!! 😀 😀
This a very historic song, but i'm more impressed by your knowledge of the Artists and why the song took place. People from all around the world assume that the UK got the idea from the US version We Are The World. When it's the other way round. I bet you already know this, but Phil Collins was the only artist to play live in London then live in Philaladelphia a few hours later, back when you could fly from the UK to the US in 3 hours.
When boy George turned up to sing his part his voice wasn’t good so he asked for a sip of brandy and then he belted our this amazing verse. I’ve heard brandy helps loosen the vocal cords.
You already reacted to this song in the official video of the recording in November 1984, and probably to Queen's performance at the Live Aid concert, but I think you might find it interesting to see when they sang it (I assume at the end of the Live Aid concert at Wembley Stadium in London in 1985), with artists on stage who were not on the recording. ua-cam.com/video/Gifrd7ljNL4/v-deo.htmlsi=zT9iTfgjswQ8lTpy

The first one reaction on Band Aid that someone knows the singers. Cheers to you!
Great song choice for Christmas. Thank you.
Merry Christmas and stay safe.❤️💚❤️💚❤️💚❤️💚

Boy George was in New York. Took the Concorde.
That was Glenn Gregory of Heaven 17, I love him
Bowie was supposed to open, but he was away on tour.
This is my second fav Christmas song just after Last Christmas by Wham, and before All i want for Christmas by Mariah

Thanks R N,
The Jam had a hit with A Town Called Malice and Style Council with Ever Changing Mood, but that was about it as far as I remember.

@@SassyOcampo you’re very welcome. Merry Christmas from Australia 💖🎄
Sassy good for you baby for this wonderful song 😊👏
This one is soooo muxh better than We are the World, its just so typical for the US version, it isnt We are the world, its America is the World
Even tho I am from UK I am sure Americans would truely agree since Americans can't even name a countrythat isnt even in North America
The band Queen should have been there too, but they were on tour and unfortunately they couldn't break free
Great
"That's Boy George." .. "He had a good voice, tho." WTF??
I've noticed the same thing! Like... though what?!?

Thank you for Christmas songs but it's Christmas do we really have to talk about the vaccine
They recorded it in one day. Getting all those egos together was some persuasion from Bob Geldof.
And Midge Ure
its a shame you dont know who paul weller is look it up
George Michael..😢
