Building Tips Every Vex Team Should Know

- I've been planning this video for a long time, it incorporates a lot of small things that I wish I had known my first year and a half in VEX. This is my last upload for this year, and I think it's a pretty good one to end on.
Thanks for checking out the description! While you're here, check out my Instagram @ kepselectronics. I really appreciate it.

As someone who isn't part of any competitive team, rather a casual robotics club at my school, this is still really cool. I had no idea what those black holey bits were at first
The bearing flats or the spacers?
@@Karly-qf3pt Bearing flats
@@noxious_nights that’s crazy my school used them all the time when we were learning about thjngs like simple gear trains and stuff this year
Just found your channel and you have some of the best vex videos on the platform! You should keep making these.
This is amazing! I wish I had this when I started, but still awesome!
also depending on the configuration, the omnis might result in more friction since the rollers are made of rubber and it rubs against the inside of the casing. just fyi.
wait what, steel is literally 2 times heavy than aluminum?! our first bot was made completely of steel. like bruh
Lmao
You actually sold with that one ngl 💀
my team literally did this this year
To stop from being pushed with omni wheels, put a locked omni wheel in the middle of your robot that is facing the other way. This will give you all the pros of omni wheels and stop you from being pushed around.
Id recommend using just using a regular traction wheels because locking the rollers on omnis often damages the wheel
@@pauljasina2779 that's really smart! I'll try it out
@@pauljasina2779 Omni wheels are 4.125in diameter, tractions are 4in. Without weight on your bot they won't contact the ground. You can still be pushed with the tractions if they aren't touching the ground.
@itsvoid2917 While that is true with the old omnis, the newer ones have a 4in diameter
@@pauljasina2779 true
Nice
It Works. Reliable.
"There are two main varieties of wheels"
Mecanum gang :(
I'm counting Mecanums under omnis. While that may not be technically correct, they share a number of similarities (rollers, allowing for holonomic action, etc.). This is mostly intended when talking about a classic drivetrain, and Mecanums do not really fall under that style of drivetrain.
@@KeplerElectronics ok thank you for telling me.
Mecanums bad, literally just use omniwheels in an X drive config
@@micah2455 thats basically impossible to build around
@@sumamerican9436 depends on size of robot but robocup soccer is nearly 100% filled with that exactly
your screw joints are wrong
can you post a video or link for the correct one?
4:08 wow, I don't think I've seen a worse v5 drivetrain
Can you make a video about how to make a scissor lift
Lmao
Your screwjoints are wrong, and boxing aluminum whether by more c channel, or boxing with screws, is pretty much always better than using steel
what does "boxing aluminum" mean?
@@AnnonHong a c-channel is "boxed" when you attach two c-channels in a way that it forms the shape of a box. To do this, put two c-channels back to back, then flip one over and slide it so it intersects with the other. Use screws to attach. You will need at least two c-channels to perform this, and after it is done there will be no "channels" sticking out. There will only be a box.
@@jeffreyhuang3814 thank you and my team actually use something similar to what you described.
I keep seeing this, wth is Vex?
Hi we are from Highland Highschool, Indiana and we have questions about your robots and if you have an email, can give it to us? Thank you!
If you just want to ask your questions here, that would be fine, that way other teams can learn from the questions too
Funny vex man
Just commenting - I know it's 5 years later but your first triangle is not a Right triangle... it's obtuse.
Well, totally not vex making things more complicated by introducing the bluish-gray spacers
They have their uses, The nylon spacers cannot be used next to a wall on a c-channel so the thinner ones are used there or in other tight spots. Before we had them we had to file or sand down the big nylon ones for stage lifts.
@@Negevin i meant the new, thicker gray spacers lol
