Vietnam vet... 1970-71 and watched "Mash" on the deck of my ship (Navy) while B52's bombed Hanoi... 300 miles away and our ship felt the concussions of said bombs... now we are good neighbors of Vietnam. How sad all those that died in the name of insanity. John Prine RIP
I grew up READING Reader's Digest and I remember all those flag decals that used to fall out of the pages. Vietnam? Saved by the bell. I was working at Fort St. Vrain powerplant North of Denver CO when 9/11 happened, and suddenly, the flag decals were EVERYWHERE. Someone offered me one and I started singing this song.
Important song for me too. I remember,Takoma Park, Md.,1970, ( later to become one of the most famous lefty communities who declared themselves "nuclear free"), me just back from Nam, newly married, struggling with some weighty experiences there that I really didnt confront for years to come. Sat in front of our local delly listened to this song. Flag decals were on every vehicle around me...really, "far out"! That day was the awakening in me that I really hated the war, and Prine brought me to that with the line , "well Jesus don't like killing ...no matter what the reason for ......
John prine the absolute best so sorry I recently just heard about him wish I had followed him his whole career as far as I'm concerned he's one of the best
I've loved this since I bought it on vinyl around 1970. Then I had a cassette, CD...it's great, but never saw this live version before. John is always great! Love him!
this is rock and roll, if you ask me! ..didn't know he passed away, but after reading the comments, I guess he did. Thanks for your contributions to music, and may your soul rest in piece John Prine.

John wrote this song in the 60's knowing very damn well this ain't no "great country" -- but a broken, ignorant, and violent one. This song's dedicated to YOU.

Amen.
Welcome home Sailor, and thanks for the ride. From an old jarhead, Semper Fi, Non sibi sed patriae.
Amen. Rip John Prine. 🙏🏼👍🏼👍🏼❤️
A VERY SAD DAY WHEN THIS MAN PASSED AWAY! Arguably THE BESTsinger ,songwriter and composer of his time!
You got that right! Think of the new songs he would have written by now....

Yeah I'm that little kid who asks his momma why the Emperor is naked in public. And who did Cain and Abel marry?

The Best! I'm from Wisconsin. Had to get introduced through an entertainer from Kentucky. John Prine is a Legend.
I love this song! I wish I could have heard the guy playing mandolin. He was really rocking out! RIP John and thanks for all your music.

I first listen to John about 70s I miss him so much 😔
Truth-telling John Price-making it relevant in that awful time-as his songs are relevant anyway-but the opening-Far Out!! Love you! Terri S.
God bless you, Mr. Prine. I'm pretty sure the man at the pearly gates is a fan. :)
Oh yeah !
RIP, brother.

Good band behind a good man! Damn COVID!!
The energy and the stance of John and the band makes this a punk song
That’s just BS
This is real music
Punk is junk
@@Hithere-ek4qt Punk is just folk with different instruments. Don't expect you to learn that, though.
@@Apelles42069 Punk is usually not bands who call themselves "punk"....like Greenday.
@@btrav667 ...Ok? Nobody cares about your weird opinion.
That said it all
He got it right even before watching the #45 train wreck, great call John.
Great intro! By the way, this is about as political as a song gets.
"This goes out to our new Fuehrer." Love it.
Bush II
EDUCATION DOESN'T MATTER
LIKE 420!! GOD BLESS YA! Subbed TOO!! YEE HAW >> ,,, .... Saw John in 80! JJ
That's modern times.
I always wondered or thought it was weird to see a Trumper/super dem singing this song
Has anyone ever seen John Prine devote this song to Obama? I love Prine, but fair is fair, Obama was no peacemaker, either.
BS

Sad that he was talking bad about trump
Trump & Co. is exactly who this song is written about -- snake oil salesmen of patriotism.
Sad. Why don't you wipe your tears and your runny nose on that MAGA flag, which also, by the way, won't get you into heaven.
Ol' john doesn't know how good he has,(or had) it in this great country. Here he is starting this song off with a political remark. BOOOOO!!!! john.
So, corporations are people and have a right to "their opinion" but individual musicians are not?
Hello, its a political song as were many of his songs. I bet you would be cheering his statement on if it supported your political views
Great song, but played a little bit to fast ?❤

Your MAGA hat definitely won't get you into heaven
Bull sized balls, heart as big as a mules ass and two arms full of talent. Told it like it was and didn't give a rats shit. Miss ya John.
