Evaluation Samples: For this review, I received evaluation samples from XBeau Gaming, Wyrmwood, BCW, and Card Guardian of their respective products. All other products were purchased using my own funds. Evaluation samples do not influence grades or evaluation whatsoever, nor does the lack of an evaluation sample.

Thanks a million Professor! Sure glad to see you're enjoying your box and thank you for the review!
Ayyyyyyyyyy!!!
xBeau Gaming wow nice to meet you
You are probably the second or third best company to make handmade premium wooden deck boxes

This is great .
The Bluetooth tile part was what made this episode-- besides the quality reviews of course. It was really entertaining seeing some genuine consternation from you as you labor to get the darn thing to work. That got a good laugh out of me. I'm always a fan of some unplanned situational humor. Great work.
I bought an Ice Tower and had the exact same problem you had, unfortunately when mine fell, it fell onto hardwood floor and shattered into pieces, dumping my cards all over the floor with it.
I went as far as emailing ultrapro support and calling, twice on both fronts, with no return call or emails. I'm convinced they do not have a customer service department, so unfortunately it was a $30 lesson in quality control.
Your videos are spot on as always, keep up the good work :)
Fabulous reviews; thanks for taking the time to do them! One aspect of the Tile (or most other bluetooth item tracking systems) that might be able to help in the case of theft is the "mesh networking" aspect if you put your Tile in "lost" mode. Yes, the sound alert is more useful in your house if you just misplaced it. But if you mark it "lost" and it's outside the range of your phone (limited to that 100 foot bluetooth range), ALL OTHER TILE USERS suddenly become your eyes and ears. If your lost tile gets in range of any other phone that has the Tile app, you'll get a GPS ping of where it saw your Tile. In a crowded convention hall, you actually have a better chance of others there also being Tile users, and their apps collaborating to track down your lost tracker.
I did some looking, though I dont have exact dimensions, and found small gps locators (marketed towards parents keeping track of their kids or dog) that appear to be of similar size to the bluetooth chip included in those wormwood products.
That being said, spending another 100-200 on these already expensive products to supplement a feature (I'm guess you're paying more for anyway) is a pretty rough deal. Though spending 200 to be sure your $6,000+ completely foil japanese/promo double sleeved Tasigur deck can be located once stolen is something that might interest some people.
When I saw Wyrmwood was adding the Tile Trackers as an option I was concerned about the volume of the siren. Fantastically done video as always!
I love watching these deck box videos. I am still looking to get a monolith for my deck boxes as the satin towers just don't quite fit my needs.
Though when i get my Cube made (2600 investment right there) I am going with wyrmwood for my cube box. They have all the style and craftsmanship i am looking for. I would have never known about them if not for this channel, and the fact that they have yet to put out a single flop shows just how strong their company really is.
Who else thought of IHE at 3:17?
+Jack Seiffert Do you think the Professor hate himself?
+nyarlotep if you hate everything , does that mean you hate yourself??🤔🤔
Me!
+Jack Seiffert I was checking if i had another tab open.
This seems like a nice deck b- 100$!!! Wellp, a 2nd satin tower it is :P
My friends and I talked about the tile theft part when we saw the add for it. We didn't know how loud it was but we knew the range issues of blue tooth. The best case is if you know who took your deck box and you confront him/her with authorities. The Bluetooth could help greatly there, but is about it.
I have one of the Wyrmwood Sentinel boxes. I had contacted them about a custom commission for an all-in-one solution for my deckbox, as they hadn't offered such a solution at the time I contacted them. I so love my box that I also backed their Kickstarter so that I could order additional boxes for myself and my wife. The cost is even reasonable if you are planning to store a Modern or Legacy deck, as the box itself may cost less than a single card in the deck.
This is probably the first Wyrmwood box you reviewed that I'm interested in getting. I'm a bit disappointed though that you didn't do a shake test for the bottom compartment.
I did, but it got cut for time. It does not fall off.
+Tolarian Community College That's really nice to know. Thanks.
These deck box reviews are still my fav on your channel. :) Thanks Tolarian!
Hey, just wanted to say that I'm really enjoying these videos. I'm just getting into MTG and this channel is where i usually go to learn a little more or look at accessories like these.
Part of tile is that you can see where it goes. It's not just a "beeper". You can follow it. Tile will also link up with other Tiles that people are using for more accurate location. Also, Tile is separate of Wyrmwood, like to note that.

The Ultra Pro Ice may have gotten a solid D, but the XBeau gave me a solid D.

I'm happy to see you rightfully trashing the ultra pro ice tower. A friend of mine owns a game store and he was telling us how awful they are. We came to the conclusion that its only use is for icing people. So if you ever specifically needed a deck box to bash someone over the head with and send your cards flying everywhere, then the ice tower is the one for you.
In all seriousness, it's made of really thick plastic and has super sharp corners. You could accidentally hurt yourself or someone else with it. It would not be hard.
I feel like a better system for that kind of anti theft bluetooth would be to have the tracker register with your phone, and if its bluetooth connection is ever broken because it was taken out of range, it automatically begins to sound its alarm.
Then you just need a louder speaker, and make your deckbox shout "THIS MTG DECK HAS JUST BEEN STOLEN, PROPERTY OF ____________" and that could be a viable method of anti-theft.
+Wes B Whitacre III If you don't care about the tray you could make the bottom tray into a security system with a larger speaker and different tracker
Simple, honest reviews as always. I will continue to watch for more reviews!
Great video as always! I agree with you on the tile but however for a different reason. I have owned a tile for a while now (on my keys) it's a great product for finding your things around the house. when tile is in range of other people using tile. It will update the location, so in that very small percentage you could find it at their home or where ever. I am going to guess 2 things: 1 they are at a magic convention and they not what your cards are worth. 2 since they have this knowledge of magic there is a very good chance they know about this device. Even if the volume was louder it wouldn't matter that would be removed way before you would even notice. Security I don't think so.
Heard that music at 2:53, expected Adam from WhatCulture Wrestling.
That Wyrmwood Sentinel is gorgeous. The spalting looks fantastic.
What is spalting?
As always top notch review information. Always helping the consumer make a well informed decision! You rock good sir!
Great video again Professor! More deck boxes for me to choose from! Can’t wait for Community Super League tonight!
i love the Worf bust. And i did catch you using a DS9 reference yesterday on an old office hours video. Your the greatest man.
"Track your deck to the thieves house" - *knock* *knock* "Alright mate, can I have my Magic cards back please?" Lol
The music you played during the review of the BCW Commander box sounds like something straight out of Grandia, like for town or route in the woods. Got some weird nostalgia from it.
The bubbles are from the methylene chloride used to "weld" the acrylics together. It's typical to see bubbles on the seams and nothing to worry about. The lid popping off like that is a concern.
That groovy elevator music was classic and clean. A+
Satin Tower still my favorite! Thanks Prof!
Appreciate all the work you do on these videos. Love the reviews!
I simply love your channel. Thank you so much for all your hard work.
hello professor,
i would like to add to the discussion of the wyrmwood sentinel case,
the reason you could have been having trouble with the bluetooth tab is the case itself.
would is not a very well medium for radio wave ( which is what bluetooth is).
also it would also be nice to let everyone know that the bluetooth RF signal can be interfered by mass amount of cell phone signals or wifi. (such as if you are at a GP or large event)
i would hate for someone to lose something that is very nice quality.
Electrical Engineer grad.
thank you for the content
I always associate the "Airport Lounge" music with this channel and "Local Forecast" with IHateEverything. I didn't realize it until noticing IHE's theme here at 3:12 that they were the same composer. Props to Kevin MacLeod for fine-tuning some great UA-cam channels.
Really looking forward to a collection of your ratings!
I think the Professor should start his own Deck Box business! you would have the best of the best box on the market! :D
The Tile on that wyrmwood box seems more appropriate for simply finding it if you lost it in your house than in a case of theft
keep comming these deck boxes videos!
They are awesome!
Excellent informative video as always, just one question. Do you ever use that Worf mug for prune juice?
Did you buy two BCW deck boxes and check both of them for the shobby glue or just one kinda what you did with the ultrapro boxes when you checked the joints ? It could have been a single bad version I just personally cant see BCW making that crappy of a product and skimping that much on glue.
Also regarding the ultra pro ice tower it wasn't welded. Yes there are fusion and non fusion welding as well as a combo of the two but none of the fusion welding processes work with plastics in general, and there are only a few nonfusion that work with plastics. The ones that are used in industry like ultrasonic or friction welding wouldn't have been used on this box due to the lack of discontinuities of the base materials around the joint or even on the joints. plastics are commonly welded using ultrasonic welding, and friction welding, but the ice tower wasn't friction welded or ultrasonic welded or probably any other type of non fusion welding that works with plastics. Also that material wouldn't have been nearly as clear if it was welded and even with friction welding there would have been much more rough around the joints. I think from my experience it was just plastic injected molded which the slight porosity would explain as the molds weren't perfect and allowed discontinuities like the air bubbles to occur.
It's kinda crazy how they basically had an Airtag before Airtag though. Obviously it was more of a concept, but it's neat to see.
Hello Professor, so I'm currently in the process of foiling out one of my EDH decks and that includes my commander. At the moment I'm using Ultra Pro's Satin Tower, but since my deck will have a ton of $80+ foils (Judge foil Demonic Tutor, BFZ Expeditions, etc) and my commander itself will be an almost $100 foil, I'm wanting to put it into a top loader so it has some more protection. My only problem is that I can't find any deck boxes that can hold a double sleeved 99-card deck along with a top loader. Do you have any suggestions that I could use or am I out of luck?
love the tidehollow picture :O
it's the IHE theme song ! hehe
+PIZZLEdeTWIZZLE It's stock music used by a lot of content creators
WilhelmScreamer Indeed :)
"I hate stock music"?
i use tile on my keys the thing is awesome and the sound even when my keys are covered is loud tho they need to be replaced once a year the app will let you know when and let you order a new tile right off of it
Do any gps locator chip type things used for pets have the ability to double as a locator for the deck box? i imagine you could approach this in 2 parts. part 1) find the general location of your box. once you've narrowed down the location of the box to a certain radius, you should be able to 2) find the specific location via bluetooth or something. I imagine if you integrate the tech they use for the little chip in the box you showed, and the tech used for pet-location devices, you would have a reliable way to locate your deck box. if you can fit the new tech into a reliable design, you should be able to put it inside trade/collection binders, deck boxes, backpacks, or whatever. Something like that, i'd be interested in.
lol. I died when you said, "This isn't even the problem I wanted to show you".
You know what grinds my gears about deck boxes. They don't make deck boxes that hold multiple decks. I have eight commander decks that i use every Sunday and transport would be a nightmare to carry eight different deck boxes. I use the boxes from fat packs. It hold three commander deck nicely or two double sleeved decks. I just wish the made deck boxes that can hold several decks at once.
thank for making these videos I always check them out before I make any deck box purchases and I was wondering if you did a deck tech with your GW commander deck in this video if so I would love to know and thank you once again.
I have an idea for the Wyrmwood Sentinel: What about a "Find My IPhone" type system?
your channel isn't letting me browse the video list...says problem with the 500 network but I can watch through the playlists...
The tile is also designed to ping off of other users with tile phone apps and send you a notification of the last known location.
Prof, what about the newer batch of Ultra Pro illustrated sleeves? My friend's are easy to double sleeve with KMC perfects. :/
Will you be at any GPs soon? I'd love to get a playmat signed. :D
So with the Ultra pro ice tower, it might be an idea to also mention how useful it might be to a game store to "display" decks in them... >_> j/s (whether or not it is, ill leave up to you and your sources). :) Love the videos as always, keep them up!
Are you going to review the card guardian garrison deck box?
the tile system is actually really useful and it works 100% fine, as it uses a community based system for recovering lost/stolen items. HOWEVER, in the case of a deckbox, it makes no sense because you can simply take the cards out of the box and then ditch it, or if you know that it has a Tile or other bt tracking system, just remove said system, and poof, gone for good.
Thank you! Good stuff! More videos!
If the wood from the Xbeau deck boxes "naturally" keep moisture away from cards, does that mean the Wyrmwood deck boxes do the same?
I heard the music playing and thought a "I hate everything" review was coming
Professor yells at box; I love your videos
Magnets, how do they work?
will you review the blet deck box it's a deck box that loops onto your belt i know it's nerdy but theft is a big issue where i go so i wanna make sure my cards are safe from theft and the outside world
You ever going to review Legion's new double matte sleeves?
What are you number one boxes that you use prof? I know you've given lots of good reviews, but what do you use personally?
Your*
+deadlysock Ultimate Guard Flip'n'Trays and Ultra Pro Satin Towers are among my favorites that I primarily use.
+Tolarian Community College I love the satin towers, thanks for that older video review with them. That's why I use them.
+Tolarian Community College yea the ultimate guard flip n tray is unbeatable unless your going custom the same with the zipfolios just top notch stuff. Btw Professor I seen on kmc's website they show silky sleeves, is that just their original packaging or is that something new about to drop?
+Tolarian Community College have you heard of the scroll play? Very good idea I think.
The tile complaint really depends on how you want it to work. I'd want it just so I know if I left at a hotel, at work, or something like that.
I love deck box reviews
is there anything on the market that i can carry up to 6 decks 3 playmats and 2 trading folders i live about 3 miles away from my shop and sometimes enjoy walking there but carrying everything in my arms can be a huge burden and a backpack holds everything but it seems that everything gets scuffed and tossed around is there anything you know of?
Love these videos! Can you review the leather playmat from wurmwood?
Hey prof are you planning to do a collection video i would love to see your full collection of mtg
If you replace the Tile with something louder that can fit, then the deck box is actually really solid.l
Can I put Ultra Pro Toploader Cards into the Ultra Pro Ice Tower Deck Box? Or is the interior too small?
professor hinting on the next edh deck guide XD
Thanks Professor!
Professor, you sound like Loyd Grossman, are you from Boston/Massachusetts?
Are you going to stream on Twitch anytime soon? Missing that!
I couldn't be more happy with your videos I'll be wanting to give you a little on patron you should do a video on walking us through how to be a patreon supporter.
At 6:39 I noticed you had a capital letter error in the word "SLeeves" I don't mean to nitpick but I figured it was worth mentioning. Good video nonetheless Professor!
Holy butts, I actually quite liked the Ultra Pro Ice box and thought that a hearty rubber band would fix the loose top but for $30?? No way.
Yea it's not a bad box if they would just imbed some magnets on the lid lips to hold that laughable top. Then the price is like someone added an extra number or something... smh
Have you reviewed anything from Geek Chic?
I am looking for a deck box that holds exactly 40 single sleeved cards. Anyone knows any good boxes?
is the music at 3:16 a reference to I HATE EVERYTHING.
Are any of these possible to use as card holders while playing a match to prevent cards from sliding all over the place? Or do people not like that and like to see their opponents cards exposed? Because I am toying with the idea of making my own Deck Box / Deck Holder for the use of holding your cards like a normal deck box but you can take the lid off and leave the base and cards on the table to hold your cards neatly and ready for battle. They can be made cheaply and will look pretty good too.
last i checked you had to have your deck out and exposed during play for a couple of reasons like someone could say you are holding extra cards in the box. plus with mtg at least you and up shuffling your deck atleast a few times per game so taking the whole deck out over and over for shuffling.
+DeadlyApples666 You can use the Ultra Pro Satin Tower or the Ultimate Guard Monolith for that if you'd like. What I like is the Ultimate Guard flip and tray because in tournaments I usually leave my sideboard in the provided tray.
Fuster What if i told you that I am manufacturing my own Deck holder for storage and game time so you have a place for your library, exile and graveyard, dice and it looks neat as well. Not giving anything away yet but there might be something on the Reddits soon-ish. :P
so prof do you recommend the card guardian deck box or the ultimate flip'n tray?
flip n tray I'm sure
I feel like we should have a special something for deck boxes 20... I don't know why, but i feel like we should have a talorian brand by now.... I'd give it a solid A++.
Is it possible that the Ultra Pro Ice Tower is not meant to be used as a transportable deck-holder? I can easily see that sort of transparent, thick-walled case as a sort of display that you would keep at home, likely many other such display cases for baseballs and other memorabilia. I know people will argue this, but it seems a bit premature and unfair to "grade" a product poorly based on qualities it was likely never meant to have.
It is possible, but the product it is put out to be is a deck box, not a display case, and with a price of 29.99, you're better off by buying another "display case" and not one saying it's a deck box. That's my opinion though. Yes, it is possible, but if so, was not a very well advertised possibility, or one I would personally put to use.
If it had either no bubbles and came for less than 30 bucks or was made out of glass I would use it for that purpose.
30 dollarinos for some glued together acrylic is a bit steep.
+DerPafferfish I agree
+YT747 I considered this after mine shattered on the floor on day 2 of owning it. I think it should be sold as a display case and not a deck box to be honest, because as demonstrated here and in personal experience, it cannot handle the task.
I asked this exact question to ultrapro support in a rather positive tone, 4 times without a response... So for what its worth, they don't care about their customers.
+YT747 It could be for storage. Nevertheless, I expect my storage containers to effectively withstand being dropped. This would not serve to protect your cards in such an event. That largely defeats the point of purchasing an expensive storage case.
great video! I'm glad to see "soon" being used in an anticipating manner, unlike nine inch nails 😜
man these wooden deck box are amazing......but i think ill just stick with my 5-10 dollars plastic deck boxes lol
If GPS tracking is what people what, it wouldn't be too hard to put a small battery and GPS transmitter into a deck box. A CR2032, GPS circuit, and an internal antenna could all easily be hidden inside a deck box around the size of an Ultrapro Satin Tower.
Im starting to believe that you have a fetish for deckboxes.
Great video as usual!
Nice review!
you should give everything(price, quality, ect.) its own rating then an overall
You ok Prof? I noticed the black eye....fight club?
+Cowhead7 Black eye? Uhhh, you might just be noticing sleep deprivation. I have a 2 year old. I have not slept in...2 years. So...tired.
+Tolarian Community College That, and your following the first and second rule.
+rifleman1002 drop and roll?
+Tolarian Community College my mistake prof, i can imagine a two year old being a handful! I appreciate all your videos and hard work while balancing it all 😊
+Waddle Doo 2 You first and second rule.... Don't talk about fight club!
Just to be sure, it looks as though the product from the etsy link to xbeau games is a different product. Has he changed it already?
it's the same just with a movable divider. I'll be updating soon, trying to look out for my commander customers!!
This guy should have 1000000 subs
Great video prof :D
love you professor
do you know a website I can buy the magic the gathering books?
I've always wondered this. Why would I want the GPS tracker to make noise? Soon as they hear it, they'll just ditch the box. I'd rather it stay quiet until the tracker tells me where it is, and the police can get there.
What's the best budget deck box
