I am absolutly interested in buying those, but i use "KCM hard" inner sleves and the decks get much bigger with them, so i am curious if 100+ means they would fit. Is it possible to get this exact, maybe in centimeter? This would be awesome!
@@TolarianCommunityCollege I wasted my money on one because it's not that good. and I got it to look cool mostly. because they fit a wacky amount of cards there's no real game that fits well. I have like 3 different games. so thank you for the video it's very helpful.
@@TolarianCommunityCollege I'm personally waiting for the smaller boxes from gamegenics and their sleeves. But I'm irritated, that you did not add the results of this video to the "product report card" on your website...
This is the first professor review that I have watched in a few years and it makes me so happy to see that he still violently shakes all of the deckboxes.
I laughed very loudly at the “fyber” comment. Well done review Prof! These videos are quite relaxing to watch and I often go back through the catalog of reviews.
I am so genuinely excited whenever you post one of these. All of your other content is great in their own ways, but you have just absolutely nailed these videos down to a science at this point and, even as someone who has all of the accessories I need for now, these videos are an absolute joy to watch.
Thank you so much Prof! For YEARS I've been trying to find a deck box to hold my deck for my LGS's tournament event, as well as, a commander deck that I play while I wait for the event to start, and ample space for tokens/dice. The fact that the Stronghold takes up almost no space, and yet can contain so much, makes it perfect for me! Now I know exactly what to ask for for my birthday next month, so again, thank you!
Just got the watchtower there and it has TCC’s logo with his rating and a QR code that leads to the exact minute that he starts talking about the box. Damn, that’s some dedication.
Gamegenic is the company that was started by one of the creators of Ultimate Guard. He specifically wanted to get into making stuff for keyforge and then made Gamegenic to do so. Nice to see they moved into other types of accessories now.
Oooh, that Gamegenic stronghold looks nice: A tray for my Atraxa deck, a tray for some tokens, and a tray for the 2,000 dice that the deck requires! I didn't see a shake test on that Ultra Pro Alcove Vault: does it hold up to that test? With an innovative design like that, I'm concerned about the magnets actually holding it shut. Thanks for these reviews as always, prof. Your channel is always my first stop before buying accessories like these!
I have one, the magnet is actually so strong I actually have trouble opening it sometimes and I've dropped it from a table once -- it's not going to pop open
Alcove Vault is amazing. My current deckbox and by far my favorite. The flaws Prof mentioned about the construction aren't present for mine. I've had no issues with its integrity degrading. Also, the flip top on the middle compartment is fine. It doesn't need to click shut or anything similar because it is naturally closed when placed in it's position for closing the entire Vault. As for your concerns with remaining shut, Ive had it for over 6 months and never came close to it opening when not wanted. The magnets are VERY strong. I respect Profs critiques, but I disagreed with his evaluation. I believe it's a fantastic product worthy of an A and would recommend it to any commander player with 2 decks and tokens.
I ended up using life counters from commander anthology vol.2 for counting counters on several particular “counter-hungry” creatures. And with addition of Ozolith to the deck... well, i might buy several more life counters... wow, that’s a lot of counts in one post, sorry.
How a person can continue to like Tolarian Community College videos astounds me. Another Box video??? $%^& Yeah!!! I can't wait until he reviews the same sleeves again!!!!! Shill is a Shill.

Another great review Prof! I got into Gamegenic from the KeyForge deck boxes they started with, which are this same amazing quality. Lucky enough to have a friend overseas that shipped a Watchtower to me as well. Gamegenic is making THE BEST deck boxes in the market hands down. Glad to see you think so as well. My only Complaint with the Watchtower is the extra card tray, but after seeing you try to break it loose, I can deal with the "extra piece" to have piece of mind that my Legacy deck won't get thrashed.
"The.....the cards are still in..... and.....pfffff. "That was exactly what I was thinking when it popped open. Had a good laugh about it, thank you prof :)
i love rewatching this over and over from time to time. knowing the gamegenic boxes are holding strong till this day for me. the best brand i have ever spent on. thx professor.
I recommend you move The Quiver to B- instead of C+. The Elastic strap is removable and is not forced upon you. I would Classify that is an extra which should actually be a plus not a minus. As you said The magnets prove you do not need it - But those who want the extra protection for their multi-thousand dollar decks its there. So the only con is that the surface materials scuff easily.
All magnets have north and south poles. Opposite poles are attracted to each other, while the same poles repel each other. When you rub a piece of iron along a magnet, the north-seeking poles of the atoms in the iron line up in the same direction. The force generated by the aligned atoms creates a magnetic field. 14:43
Just what I was waiting for! I'm currently in the market for a new commander deckbox and saw the GameGenic boxes on my LGS' website, wondered if they are any good but couldn't find a reasonable review.
For the GameGenic Stronghold: Have you tried Dragon Shield Sleeves with Resealable Dragon Shield Inner Sleeves? The space for the decks looks to be really tight for a classic double sleeved Dragon Shield and I'm afraid my decks won't fit entirely.
Watching Prof's hair and chair bounce during the shake tests is my new favorite thing. Can't say he doesn't try with all his might to make those deck boxes open. Great review Professor :)
Professor, I have a question regarding the review section on the Gamegenic Stronghold. It's saying it holds two sets of 100 double sleeved cards. I thought this was great so I purchased one, however I can only seem to fit about 96 into one of the compartments; then it starts to feel way too tight and I worry about damaging my cards. I use Dragonshield outer slevees and their perfect fit inners (the fold one). Did you encounter any issue putting the full double sleeved commander deck into the Stronghold? From what I see, it looks like there's no issue with the Watchtower but when you put the deck in but there's no example of the cards being put into the Stronghold. Do you think it's possible it may vary how many cards will fit depending on what type of sleeves you use to double sleeves? I worry I have just wasted £35 :( Thank you!
I know its a bit late but for what it's worth I know that to be more of a problem with the thickness of the sleeve combination that you stated. I use the exact same combination and most, if not all deck boxes are just slightly too tight (or rather, the deck is too thick). I would reccomend Dragon Shield's sideloader inners as they are much much thinner and will cut down on a lot of the thickness. Those foldable Dragon Shield inners are basically triple the thickness of every other sleeve. They do the job well though, if you have thin enough outer sleeves it could also solve the problem. (I use Eclipse Pro Gloss now)
I just want to say thank you for this! I just bought one of the 200 card strongbox GameGenic products because of this video and I absolutely am in love. I am going to buy two more for all of my commander decks. They are really tough and I haven’t been able to pop mine open while fully loaded either.
TheDrr35 yeah! If you use the fully sealable dragon shield inner sleeves they won’t fit! I have a Ghave, Guru of Spores deck that I am slowly upgrading and he just got sleeved with them and sadly he is too large to fit by around 8-9 cards! I had him previously sleeved in dragon shield mattes with side loads for the inner double sleeving. It was only when I put him in the fully sealable dragon shield inner sleeves that I had a major problem. :(
And another great video. Thanks Professor. Guess i'm a bit addicted to your videos showing me the best products for my collection. Can you please do a review on the "Blackfire Convertible Premium Deck Box Dual 200+"? They are my favorite type of deck box and i would love to see if they get your seal of approval, too.
Thank you for doing such real and critical reviews for the consumer! It's so refreshing compared to all the reviews for the product/company that plague youtube.
Good to see another one of these. While I do have a certain set of products I default to (Dragon Shield sleeves, Ultimate Guard boulders, etc.), these accessory reviews are always an interesting watch.
Wow, what a deception. I’ve bought 3 of the gamegenic 200 towers. Only to find out they only fitted 90 dubbelsleeved dragon outer plus innersleeved cards. Had to send them back. Maybe The professor should also test these boxes with every possible sleeves on the market.
I picked up a strong hold a few weeks ago and was blown away by the quality! I’m almost as excited about the carrying case as I am with the cards I keep inside. Just an amazing product
I just picked up a Gamegenic dungeon (1100+) and 10 Gamegenic Sidekicks (100+) to store my commander collection and I can't say enough good things about their products. One thing the professor didn't touch on (which I find to be a huge pro) is that since the lids are detachable, you can mix and match colors if you own multiple deck boxes which adds another layer of customization/organization. I use this to color code my different decks
Thank you so much for your reviews and ALL the work you do to put them together. They are so enjoyable and informative. A Selfish request here if I may. I'd like to submit a request I hope you'd consider. Please review MTG set's for build quality. Similar to your product reviews. Give them a grade. Examine the card stock, print quality, and the foil process. I really appreciated your pushing the card stock issue a few years back. It's frustrating purchasing a product and not getting what we pay for. I'm not sure many companies could get away with faulty or defective products for long.
I really enjoy those reviews. Keep up the good work! Quick suggestion: what about showing your updated list of A-graded products at the end of each review video, so we know what are the current "best" products?
Love the review prof. Just to let you know, on the review screen for the alcove vault (11:38), you say the product is $36.99 but the text says $26.99. Thanks for all the work you put into making sure players are spending their money on good quality products!
Thanks for buying these boxes with YOUR OWN MONEY and testing them. As "many magic the gathering players" know, protecting your deck is an important part of our routine. I'm a huge advocate of the UltraPro Satin Tower but the GameGenic boxes are impressive. Thanks for sharing! :)
> First deck box review video from the prof since god knows how long. > Starts with a box that is for all intents and purposes a pile of steaming garbage and just tears into it viciously. This is why I love this channel.
The GameGenic Watchtower looked very appealing, so I picked one up to put my favorite commander deck in. However, I soon found out that the deck box does not fit a 100 card deck double sleeved with dragon shield perfect fit sealables. Other than that the magnets are very nice!
Same here. Just yesterday lol. If you take the tray out and drop the deck in facing left-right. It will still fit however. *edit: my 99 use normal KMC Perfect fits actually. And it still didn't fit
Just bought two of the Gamegenics Stronghold, and was dissapointed to find out it could only about 10 double sleeved dragon shields with the resealable inner, with the other 90 cards being "normal" dragon shield double sleeves. Even with only 5 resealable inners(for a few of my foils) it was still a laborious task getting ghe full deck in. I love your channel sir, but i highly recommend you make an update video on the gamegenics line of deckboxes. Im not the only one here who has had that problem.
So true, it needs to be mention, there website says it, but it's not put forward enough. Even normal double sleeve don't fit. (althought sealable inner should be expected not to fit honestly, as it have another layers to the inner sleeve...)
I couldn't stop laughing while you continuously tried to shake that deckbox open. It's the kind of thing that makes a video so, so much better. Thanks for the review Prof. I think I'm gettin' that deckbox just to do some cardio myself
Dear Professor If you ever again run into similar problems as with the Stronghold, might I suggest another method. Since due to the regular method only allows the object [here on referred to as the deck box] to gain relatively small amount of velocity maybe you should change your set up. For I when a person is standing he or she gains a lot more freedom to move their arm allowing them to shake a deck box in their hands with much greater force. This then of course leads to a much higher potential impulse which then increases the chance of a deck box to open during the test. This of course depends on how easy it is to adjust the video recording set up you are using. That was merely a suggestion.
Now I'm relieved, I order some gamegenic deckbox without your review of the product and feel a bit worried as I don't know the brand, but now I know that I buy something nice and can't wait for it to arrive.
The stronghold design seems innovative in another sense as well, as each section of the magnetic lids only bears a certain amount of the weight of the contents
Great video! I just picked up a pair of the VaultX last week. It's a nice case, but a little cheaply made. (guess they will be ok if I respect them). I also have a satin tower which is good quality. Anyway, been watching your videos for a while, and thought I'd comment. I've just started playing Magic and have jumped in feet first, buying boxes and enjoying opening them (feel free to check my videos - bring your own polish)
I'll have to remember the Stronghold for when I get into Commander after the pandemic cools down. Pretty reasonable price for something so well made. Even getting those magnets off at the end, the cards were perfectly held in place (and without compromising the aesthetics or taking up any extra space)!
I'm stunned at how the Citadel had really solid magnets that could hold the entire thing together through a good shake test, but they still felt the need to add an elastic strap out of fear of it falling apart. On one hand, that's kind of considerate of them to add an extra form of security; on the other, it's barely effective and it's straight-up worse than the magnets already in the thing. Such a fascinating choice.
Oh nice, I love that deck box builders are experimenting with 2x or ever 3x designs. I still use fat pack/bundle boxes as my deck boxes as they fit 2x commander decks and a 75 card deck. So with just two bundle boxes, I can carry 4 commander decks a standard and a modern deck around. I have a separate dice bag (Might want my dice for some RPGs). That Vault deck box is probably the first I have been genuinely interested in, I hope they are able to improve the design for the next version though.
I have not had my Vaultx box fall apart like this after 3 months of owning it and moderate use. Though my was purchased a year after this review, so maybe they upped the QA since this review? How ever it can fit a full commander deck if you ONLY single sleeve, which I do not mind since that is all I do. Great review just wanted to post my experience with the Vaultx box.
i recently got a Deckbox from IMPERIUM DUELIST, i gotta say its way better that what i expected no wonder they have 5 stars feedback from the previous buyers.
Personally I just use the fatpa... bundle boxes for my commander decks: they can hold 3 sleeved commander decks. And rarely give me any issue, though there is an occasional card that can bend on the side of the box every now and then. I can throw 4 bundle boxes in my backpack and travel with them without any issue. I find the deckbuilder toolkits with the side flaps to be better because they are slightly longer, are more secure and don’t bend cards on the sides, however the cardboard quality is worse so I recommend customizing with some duct tape or something like that. I’m slowing transitioning to these instead.Best of all buying these products come with more cards!
Can we appreciate how the Prof just yeets some deck boxes off his desk for the watchtower segment XD... The real durability test, it falling off a card table mid match
All jokes aside, thank you for putting yourself through the shake test, it's hard to see how a completely full deck box will function (or fall apart) before you buy it. Your sacrifice is not in vain.

Well, because of you, i bought this stronghold 2 days after my local gamestore gets it... And you know what? That's an awesome pick. Thank you prof!
i just ordered the gamegenic stronghold and watchtower. they look like the best of the best right now to me!! great review as always!!!
I just want to say thank you for this! I just bought one of the 200 card strongbox GameGenic products because of this video and I absolutely am in love. I am going to buy two more for all of my commander decks. They are really tough and I haven’t been able to pop mine open while fully loaded either.
Margaret Elmore i got one also! But mine doesn’t fit my double sleeved decks for some reason? It’s too small.
I've been looking for a solid deck box since getting back into magic a couple weeks ago, this review gave me exactly what I wanted, thanks!
I haven't been around this channel in a little while and I gotta say, when I hear that opening theme it feels like I'm coming home
Always a pleasure for the information and shake tests prof
As an engineer (and design instructor) these reviews are really fun to watch to see the Prof talk about all the design choices in each box
The GameGenic Watchtower looked very appealing, so I picked one up to put my favorite commander deck in. However, I soon found out that the deck box does not fit a 100 card deck double sleeved with dragon shield perfect fit sealables. Other than that the magnets are very nice!
I found this out the hard way too.
Saw the watchtower at my LGS today and picked it up. I was not disappointed. It also had your logo and seal of approvement on the box!!
I got one of those Guild Boxes and it's my favorite thing ever. A+ product.
I couldn't stop laughing while you continuously tried to shake that deckbox open. It's the kind of thing that makes a video so, so much better. Thanks for the review Prof. I think I'm gettin' that deckbox just to do some cardio myself
Dear Professor
If you ever again run into similar problems as with the Stronghold, might I suggest another method.
It's like a little return to normal as the Prof starts reviewing MtG accessories again! Thanks, Professor!
Happy 30th Deckboxeversary, Prof!
Appreciate the effort you put into shaking every box prof
The final scene was amazing, when the box finally opened Prof. was so happy 😁
Definitely missed these videos. Keep up the incredible work prof.
Finally, an accessory review. My favorite TCC content.
Finally a new deck box video! These are my favorite videos the Prof makes!
This is the gold standard for mtg deck case review and testing. I just love watching the prof go to work
Genuinely helpful and insightful. Thanks, Professor!
Thank you for doing these videos.
Love the videos. Amazing help for me to find exactly what I need and helping me not buy the wrong one. Thank you.
I just love his calm demeanor as he is tossing or breaking these boxes. Maybe its the voice.
My first deck box before watching this was a Gamegenic stronghold, and honestly I have the same opinion, it’s ABSOLUTLEY amazing
Wow, I'm actually surprised about the VaultX one failed so spectacularly, I myself own one that is pretty durable and even passed the shake test.
1 year late but i have two and the quality is fine tbh
I think you're right about Quiver's Citadel's elastic band being decorative. In fact, it actually feels like a flex on their part.
My favorite deck boxes are the boxes Dragon Shields come in. So nice that they do that
Man i love when Prof play games with same letter words, nice writing! (also the rhymes!)
14:44 made me spit my coffee out.
Can we appreciate how the Prof just yeets some deck boxes off his desk for the watchtower segment XD... The real durability test, it falling off a card table mid match
The GameGenic Deck Box is AWESOME! Thank you for the recommendation.
All jokes aside, thank you for putting yourself through the shake test, it's hard to see how a completely full deck box will function (or fall apart) before you buy it. Your sacrifice is not in vain.
