- Sir David Willcocks conducts the combined National Youth Choirs of Great Britain, assembled alumni and organist David Hill in a performance of Hubert Parry's 'Blest Pair Of Sirens' at Symphony Hall, Birmingham.
I kinda like the sound of a young choir singing this piece. Very unique and bright.
Thank you, dear Sir David, for nearly a century of wonderful music-making. RIP xx
Sir David Willcocks MC - legend.
We couldn't agree more AntPDC. We were honoured to have Sir David as our President for many years and he gave great support to NYCGB in our early years.
I'm listening to this knowing the last time I heard it was 47 years ago when I sang it with the Glasgow Schools Choir conducted by Juian Dawson with the SNO accompanying.
Wonderful! My Director at the Royal College of Music.😊
WOW!!
I am crying with memories of Sir David and watching his beat in the Bach Choir. He was so good at bringing together massed voices. Must have been recorded a bit ago as I spotted a young John Scott in the choir; another sad loss Nina Robinson
Dear Nina, thank you so much for this comment and your memories of Sir David. This thrilling performance was given in 2008 (You're mistaken re John Scott in the choir), and we think it's possibly among the last films of him in full flight! Next year (2019) would have been his 100th birthday.
8:55 bad moment to zoom in hahaha guy was lost :D
Wow. Bugger me old boots.
I am not familiar with this piece however I find it moving.
Sallie Taylor it's a beautiful piece by Parry. Should be better known
It is from verses by John Milton set to music by Hubert Parry. Sadly not performed as often as perhaps it should.
I seem to recall this being performed at the Last Night of the Proms under Andrew Davies.
And if it wasn't...it should have been!😊
When was this recorded?
