- This is one of the best things about my job - playing hymns on organs like this is Paradise for me!
I present to you the sensational @nicholsonorgans organ in @llandaffcathedral547!
Here are a selection of Lent (and some not necessarily for Lent) hymns:
00:00 | Alleluia! Sing to Jesus (Hyfrydol)
03:17 | Come Down, O Love Divine (Down Ampney)
06:45 | Draw Us in the Spirit's Tether (Union Seminary)
09:14 | Forty Days and Forty Nights (Aus der Tiefe)
11:48 | Praise to the Lord, the Almighty (Lobe den Herren)
14:52 | When peace, like a river, attendeth my way (It is well)

This is the only way these hymns should be played! I love pipe organs in church. I am NO fan of guitars or 'praise bands'. Thank you for sharing!!!
Me either but unfort most people think that electric band guitar stuff is "good" sorry but its usually lame as hell, this is triumphant and powerful
@@MileHiSteve2013 I think however people want to worship, that is their right and it's frankly deplorable how often these peoples' way of worshipping is insulted.
I could not agree better. I am agog. Oh for the glory, mahjesty and glorious chords for our Messiah!
very Christian, insulting the way of worshipping of other people @@MileHiSteve2013
@@Michael_VG It seems you are saying that someone can express a positive opinion of someone else's choice and not a negative one. That cannot be right!
Richard people in CUBA yes CUBA are listening to this video and the feedback is amazing They are thunderstruck by your STAR performance they can't believe that something could be so beautiful beautiful
I spent 40 years in a loft. I NEVER felt it was a job. I always felt that my calling was to lead in worship, not entertain. With you wonderful playing of these hymns, you brought back that feeling in me. I loved this video soooo much. Bob from Southern California.
Wow, Bob. As a church organist at a small church (relatively speaking) in Atlanta, I am inspired and encouraged to hear this beautiful sentiment of yours. It is ministry and servanthood of great importance indeed! 🙏🏽👏🏽👏🏽💒🎹
@@rickythe2nd63 Keep it up, remember it is a calling not a job!
@@roberttapken1139 Amen!
I very much hope your congregation appreciated the fact you did this without receiving payment.
Amen
The beauty of these magnificent hymn tunes and their beautifully poetic words touched my emotions. I regret that much of this beauty is ignored in modern church worship, where, particularly in my own Catholic tradition, for many years there has been a disastrous dumbing down of liturgy and music which leaves me cold and disinterested.
No truer words I regret to say. But the pre-Vatican Mass still lives on, to the great chagrin of many "bishops", as it does in my city (all praise to Him.)
I couldn't agree more. In my church when the congregation stands and sings the contemporary choruses full of slogans, platitudes, and cliché-ridden banality, I sit and do not participate. Most of the time the phrases won't even rhyme unless the same phrase or word is repeated. I think today's composers were raised in the generation where everyone got a participant trophy, which they took to mean anyone could do anything equally well.
Alas, I couldn't agree more. So sad.
Fortunately , in Chico, California, we have had for the past two years, a rector who has been progressively deepening our liturgical practices at St. John’s Episcopal Church.
It is a pleasure to hear a beautiful and powerful organ played so magnificently.🇦🇺🦘💐All hail, to the Glory of God!✝️
It is well with my soul - when I hear your magnificent playing on magnificent organs! Glory to God! Blessings,Richard, from Buffalo, NY.
இராகம் கேட்பதற்கு மிகவும் இனிமையாக இருக்கிறது.சந்தோசம்
வாழ்த்துக்கள்

I served as a church organist for over 50 years. I believe that it was my mission to usher the congregation through my music into the presence of The Lord every Sunday in preparation for worship. My only prayer is that the congregation was blessed and that His Name was honoured and glorified by my meager efforts.
Thank you so very much this video.
Msy God continue to bless you as you so faithfully serve Him.
The pipe organ is imbued with such an unparalleled majesty in its music.
Great selection- "May all that have life and breath come now with praises before Him!"
Hallelujah. My heart sings with the glory of this God given sound 😊

It was absolutely beautiful, and it was an honour to hear you play, comforting, and inspiring. Thank you.
very modern and classic, unusually extensive--a nice surprise, no doubt for many now able to share memories and related plans. thank-you very much indeed.
Thank you very very VERY *VERY* much for your attitude of worship to God in your playing of this instrument. Listening to your “interpretation” of tonal color while reading the lyrics has brought me into His Presence! Beautifully and reverently rendered!
I take my hat off to you Sandy, keep pushing, I’m in my 60s. I got a virus brain infection at 45 . I was paralysed down my left side and very weak for years, leaving severe nerve damage and pain, I got a tricycle and off I went . In tears at times, this year I got an allotment, I won’t give up. I sit down and garden sometimes. Pain is often horrible, keeping a trim a trim figure is important. Keep going Sandy even if it’s a bit slower sometimes . We love watching you, you arnt alone in your struggle.
Youre talents are given and shared to help us worship our God and Savior Jesus!Keep up the good work!--------Vic and Debby---Prineville Oregon.
thank you Richard. from Johannesburg
Dear Richard, An Englishman in North Cyprus, I feel your playing of hymns brings me, though far from home. nearer to God.
And we, in remote New Zealand, are fortunate to have a similar - even grander - instrument in the Anglican Cathedral (Most Holy Trinity) in Auckland.
Well done! What great wonder, spiritual energy and love , all to honour and praise Our Almighty Lord and God! God bless you dear Richard!
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
The whole building acts as one instrument. Marvelous.
Richard, like you, I find the most rewarding and uplifting thing I have ever done on the organ is stir a large congregation to resounding praise! I then am truly lost in wonder, love and praise! 😍 Thanks for sharing these inspiring renditions! 🙏 👏
Amen!!!
Thank you!!
Geoffrey Griffith in Philadelphia usa i am sending all of these videos to my friends here in the usa and they loves them they asked me to keep sending these videos of this great organist mr McVeigh amen
Listening to the playback here in the Cape Town sun I’ve thoroughly enjoyed all the hymns but the sensitive interpretation of “it is well with my soul “ was my favourite 👍👍many thnx for these wonderful hymns played on a fantastic instrument 🙏🏼
this hymn praise to God the almighty is my school hymn back in the 1960 ties its an English hymn. thanks and amen
Thank you, Richard. Your favorite hymns are mine as well. Three of these are hymns I’ve requested on VC: “Draw Us in the Spirit’s Tether”, twice, “Forty Days and Forty Nights” on the first Sunday in Lent, and “Praise to the Lord, the Almighty”. This is why I wholeheartedly support you and live for Sunday afternoons in Idaho Fall, Idaho.❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I love all the hymns especially "Draw Us in the Spirit's Tether".
"When peace like a river" ....... wonderful interpretation.

Beautiful Richard.
Such a beautiful sacred time to enjoy on my sun drenched conservatory as you describe it ! Many Thanks 🎼🙏
Richard, you are such a gifted, exceptional organist! So envious that you get to perform on so many beautiful, powerful instruments in such majestic cathedrals! You bring a sense of peace and comfort to our chaotic world! God Bless you!
Stunning Organ with even more stunning playing! Your pacing, phrasing, registrations and subtle kicks to the harmony take my breath away.
Sir the opening was Glorious
Makes my Welsh heart proud. Mawl i Dduw!
Thank You so much, Dear Richard ❤️
You are very welcome
Went to an organ recital today. The most entertaining piece in the diverse program was Toccata Power of Life by Mons Leidvin Takle (never heard this name). I'm sure most, if not all, listeners liked it.
Hi Richard, all the Llandaff Cathedral recordings are great! I mean VC, Organ recital and this recording of your favorite, (and mine too) hymns. I enjoyed getting to know your recording equipment. It is remarkable how massive and extensive the instrument is in Llandaff! For future VCs, I suggest following the example of the TOP 5 hymns, to choose the TOP 3 organs on which you have ever played within the framework of the BIS (or on a Hauptwerk sample of course), or will play next. My choice now would be the top1 Blackburn, 2nd Rotterdam and Llandaff, 3rd! But if things at VC go the way they are going, then my ranking may change. Good luck and I look forward to your next impulses.
Ondřej Kostak, Prague, Czech rep.
What a lovely instrument. Very close indeed to my idea of organ perfection, aided massively by great registration. The swell celestes are truly exquisite. Thank you Richard.
YES. Paradise indeed. Thank you Richard. You make our day. The drone camera shot going through the front door at Llandaff Cathedral is absolutely priceless and Brilliant.
We are so lucky.
It is well brought me to tears so powerful that organ
THIS IS A WONDERFUL PERFORMANCE ON A MAGNIFICENT ORGAN.
Praise to the Lord Almighty has always been my favorite hymn. The first I learned on the organ.
It is well is the first hymn I played 😁
And it's Paradise listening to you play organs like this!!
Complete beauty in sound! If this doesn't draw you into worship, then something is wrong!
Thank you! And the inclusion of the hymn texts adds so much to the experience.
I like this music a lot. Thanks so much for being here. Congratulations! 👍🙌🎶❤️🙏
Man oh man what a roar!❤😊
Loving hearing Draw us in . . again. Just a great tune.
Tremendous music of the soul who loves god
Once again, thank you Mr. McVeigh for bringing joy to my life. Especially starting with Hyfrydol.
Absolutely Beautiful Love this
Bravo, Richard. Hyfrydol can’t be beaten- it’s simply the National Anthem of Heaven!!
Known to choristers the world over as "hydrofoil" - it's a great hymn to sing, especially when played with gusto as in this recording.
Not really. Imo.
Thank you, Richard. Such cherished selections played so beautifully. I’m grateful for you sharing your immense talent. What a blessing.
I'm not going to translate the beauty of what I hear into words, but in any case it is clear that it is divine The organ and me me and then the organ and you it is downright a glaring difference to know that everything you interpret you live it intensely Richard bravo
Beautiful hymns, love Llandaff Cathedral. My home City.
By the by I shared this video with everybody I know😊
😃🙏
Excellent music! Thanks for posting.
WOW, goosebumps Listening to this on inexpensive but descent headphones. Awesome.
Thank you for this performance. It was as fine a master class in word painting as you have ever done, particularly with "It is well with my soul".
WOW! Blew me right outage my bed! Amazing sounds, so unique , so rich. I mean Richard you surpass yourself every single time! What power! God Almighty help us😊
Beautiful organ. Thanks for sharing! Loved the build up and reeds on the last verse of "It is Well".
This is magnificent.
Superb registration and harmonization, and played with great depth of understanding. Wonderful to hear the range of colors in this instrument, and I just love the camera work. Thank you for also having the hymn text on the screen!
Thank you Richard for playing these beautiful hymns. A blessing indeed. This video will be replayed many times in the coming days. Blessings 🙏🙏🙏🙏😊😊😊😊
Thank you so much for sharing this beautiful music!! Much love from Texas
You simply cannot beat a big pipe organ. The sound is glorious!
As you know that prayer and praise go hand in hand skipping in to eternity
Thank You per me molto Edificante
THANK YOU RICHARD! Beautifully played hymns on a magnificent organ!!
Thank you Richard for your generous gift to people all over the world. Sadly, I’m temporarily not able to play. So you inspire me to keep the hope alive that I will return to the gateway to heaven (aka organ console).
Praying for your return to the console, Rudy!
We share similar hymn favourites. Love the registrations you used - great audio recording too! Thanks for posting this … truly inspirational!
Thank you Richard for the so nice music 😊
Absolutely wonderful and in such a beautiful Cathedral.
Splendid work! Thank you for sharing your talent with the rest of us. Nothing like a well played Hammond B-3 or pipe organ!
Beautiful
I absolutely loved your version of it is well with my soul. It is one of my favourite hymns and it has such a wonderful meaning behind it and thank you so much again Richard for putting such a wonderful rendition of that on your UA-cam channel inspiration to everybody who listens to your wonderful music.❤
Awesome playing. Love hearing your hymns.
Some lovely tunes, and I love the variations, so skilfully co-ordinated with stop combinations.
My favourite feature of the cathedral is the rounded romanesque chancel arch we see at 19:29 It’s diminutive compared to the rest of the cathedral but the detail on it is so ancient and intricate, and is the sole survivor of the original church built nearly a thousand years ago.
Thank you BIS for these beautifully produced 10 Anniversary performances. As a young teenager one of my first records was a 1962 Masters Voice recording of Robert Joyce playing the 1958 version of the Llandaff Cathedral organ. I still have it. Thank you again
Vraiment magnifique!❤
I thoroughly enjoyed these when you presented them in VC and they're even better collected together in one video, complete with on-screen texts. Thank you for providing these high-quality visual and aural virtual tours of great UK cathedrals.
I know llandaff cathedral well.lovely familiar tunes .
Beautiful hymns and playing which would inspire any congregation . You must give a video on last verse alternative harmonies please.
Loved it, thank you!
Wonderfully played with spirit🙏🙏🙏👏👏👏
nice one!
Thank you Richard. A very pleasant selection
Absolutely brilliant, more, more! But you do look worried.
What a great organ! Covers both sides! The Cathedral is very impressive too, interesting mix of old and modern! 😊 ❤️ Thank you.
In 1996 I gave a concert on the old organ…great memories!!!
