I saw you making your coffee, I'm also a camper, What I do a few days before going camping I get coffee filters (dollar store ) put coffee in a filter, and tie it up with dental floss (no scent). all you have to is boil your water and throw the filter in the water, just like a tea bag, can use them over. I made enough to get me thru the trip works great
2nd tip.. Always aim the front of your vehicle to the way out! If it downpours during the night the last thing you want to do is jocky your truck around in a tight spot. Words of experience
I appreciate the “keys” scenario…. It is so easy to be disoriented in the woods… because it all looks the same. We’ve all done similar things! Looks like a great trip, thanks for sharing!
Thanks for having the courage to share all of the “oops” incidents. Your video was enjoyable and a great intro to dispersed camping. In the end, everyone had fun and got to spend some time outdoors.
As a former Girl Scout, I hear your pain on the garbage left behind from inconsiderate campers. Thank you for sharing your experience - truly appreciated the information. Curremt Michigan resident (all my life) - ;love that you live here, too!
Ahh, the color of that river water made me think you were in the UP. I now see my mistake. That also explains more easily why you were hearing off road vehicles nearby. Yup, we love Michigan!
Here's a camping trick I learned in the girl scouts many many years ago. Before you put a pot on the campfire, etc. Place a little dish soap right on the pan or (in your case) cowboy coffee bottom of the metal cup and smear it around the bottom and up the side aways. Then when you are finished cooking and the pot has cooled simply wipe the bottom and sides off with a paper towel and you have a clean not blacked pan. Thanks injoyed your video of my home state.
yes, please hate the liter when we triing to get away from it. Miigwetch for bringing that up. Everyone maybe seeing it, pay more attention, and like you pick it up as much as it sucks...thx for video..excited to do such things with my son...hes almost 2.
Bluetti by max oak just did three nights and didn’t even use half the battery. You can charge with solar or AC. P.S. Don’t boil the coffee just let it steep then pour the cold water over the top. Made it by the 5 gal pots before. See you out there!
French press is what you want. It makes the best coffee. It also doesnt take up any more space than your percolator. I can't wait to get out for a camping trip. I need it mentally. I live just on the edge of the Manistee National Forest and hope to take a camping trip soon with just a couple of 40 year old quads.
I'm with you: no trace camping is the onlyway to go. carson just got a thumbs up and i understand light sleep nights... its usually animals that keep me reawakening
Put a set of keys in a empty pill bottle tape it up with duct tape and use Paul wire or coat hanger wire it to the wheel well unseen from someone else. Or wired to the frame of the vehicle.
It's not the spot where you have a fire that matters, it does a little but a rock fire ring can prevent most of that, what you need to worry about is the embers that float up an get carried off to another spot that's what starts fires more than anything
I too, own an acre in the UP. I love it up there, but sadly, was born a troll. I try to get there as often as I can. Was waiting for you to mention what river you were on. There are endless beautiful places in the UP. I’m guessing your worry about your spot there becoming overrun was unnecessary. Thank you so much for picking up the piggy’s trash; I do the same.
Im new to dispered camping in Michigan. What did you mean when you said the rules are kind of grey when you were talking about driving down to the river?
I wasn't sure because of a few reasons. 1. the "Marked" road on the motor vehicle use map didn't actually follow that road down the hill. So technically was it a "Road" and the state rule says you can't travel more that 20' or 50 ' (forget as one is state one is national) from the "Traveled Road". Well, it isn't a "Marked road"... but it was a "Traveled Road". Either way, I wasn't blazing my own trail so I felt fine. 2. There are set backs for certain water areas to camp at. After looking more into the laws, I think I was safe. The state rules don't say anything about the set back. And only certain areas like long larger rivers are marked for set back or marked no camping.
My battery setup is nice and compact. Never really out more days than my battery can last. I can get easy 3 nights possibly 4 nights of my current set up with no additional power input.
@@cjoutdooradventures4896 Good stuff! I found it today and its a nice spot where you walk maybe 5 minutes through vegetation (thats beat down) to river. I think you and your boy would like it. You gotta post more videos, your content you have done, is pretty darn good! Happy and safe trails!

Thanks! I am itching to get back out. Might try to winter camp. I don't exactly have the right gear for winter. But what the heck.

We see the same stuff when I’m up there snowmobiling, and always try to take more out than what we brought in.
Thanks for doing your part!
If you're going two tracking I strongly recommend a damn good 12000 lbs winch! It will cost you a FORTUNE to get pulled out by a commercial tow truck.
Adding that this spring! Especially because a lot of times I won't be with anyone else. Need all the tools to help me out.

Get a combination lock box attached to your vehicle, or hide it somewhere ONLY YOU WILL KNOW.
OR INSIDE YOIR UNLOCKED VEHICLE.
Great Video, thanks for sharing! Maybe I missed it but what River were you on?
If you are going camping or trail riding pack out what you pack in don't leave leave a mess for the next group
We always do and try to pick up the items other campers left behind.
It was part of every troop campout to police the area after camping and before leaving.
Might have to take instant coffee next trip.
where in michigan is this? either I missed it or you didn't tell us? lol I probley missed it
#1 rule for any car....keep a spare key under the car somewhere in one of those magnetic boxes. Saved me too many times to admit over the years.
I like to learn lessons the hard way. :)

rule of thumb : 1rounded tablespoon per cup

Nope. Home base is in West Michigan near GR
Technically not allowed to camp within 200' of the water.
We were not in a designated natural or scenic river corridor.
