Tangled Up in “YOU”, Chuck Hillig

- Whenever ego becomes entangled in a storyline through identification, it spontaneously manifests in the dream world as a separated “you.” Ego maintains this ongoing illusion of “person-hood” by holding that its dramatic story is being both sourced by and experienced through an imaginary “avatar.” As such, ego believes itself to be the Thinker-of-its-thoughts, the Feeler-of-its-feelings, the Speaker-of-its-words, and the “Do-er”-of-its-actions.
But, nonduality holds that Consciousness, Itself, is only One, and that “IT” is really the true source and cause of everything. So, how can this quintessential Oneness ever be reconciled with the daily arising of the persistent illusion of a separated “you?” Are the ego-based entanglements that arise from within your dualistic drama really preventing you from living an awakened life? How can you learn to be fully IN the dream world, and yet to remain not really OF it? Is non-attachment and “Holy Indifference” the only answer? Are you finally ready to untangle your own Gordian Knot?
Chuck Hillig is a modern spiritual teacher, author and consultant. Before he retired to Virginia in 2006, Chuck worked as a state-licensed psychotherapist in California for over 30 years. He is the author of five easy-to-understand books on eastern nondualism, and his writings and interviews have been translated and published in ten languages. Chuck is able to weave the practicality of traditional western psychology with the wisdom of nondual eastern philosophy in ways that are powerful, accessible and life-changing.

I feel such emotion when I watch this I connect to this so much! This is my truth ❤
Wow - this one of the most clear presentations concerning 'ego' that I've ever come across. Thank yo, Chuck. :)
Brilliant! I learned this 20 years ago from an amazing woman named Byron Katie I'm so satisfied to see the rest of the world experiencing it as well we are all waking up now!!!
Thank you chuck. I Think you are AMAZING. Just What the Doctor ORDERED.
Chuck, Hysterically funny presentation! OMG, I laughed til I cried!!!! The 'I' to 'I' bit was soooooooooo funny! Thanks for briefly explaining Ramana's method of self inquiry. I'm still laughing with this video. XXXOXOXXOXXOXOXO
"Man can DO what he wills, but he cannot WILL what he wills." Schopenhauer
+Chuck, my current understanding is that only Source can "will" anything since there is only Source.
Pozz i od mene za divnog
I love you Chuck Thank You
I love this guy.
...very cool. Strong on Buddha and Dharma... just nudges us up to the Sangha. Great presentation.
Thank you very much
IM FEELING SO CRAZY RIGHT NOW
Awesome thanks chuck
This is a great teaching.
Brilliant thank you x
Right...so something that doesn't exist that doesn't have free will is going to choose to love. Where have I heard that a million times before?
You nailed it. These teachers move from "telling it like it is" (which is fine), to "telling you what to do to get there" which is prescriptive and counterproductive.
he does not say choose love. He said you never left the Love. Don't miss the message. it is hard to skip by not thinking much of it. He says you never left.
IMO Ego is self awareness and you can't step away from it - NEVER!
For me ego is selfish motives of self aware entity, and I see awareness itself as neutral, space like 'thing'. Yet I don't see your view being wrong. This is more about what things we associate to word ego, or different direction of viewing. Excuse my English.
At about 9:30 he posts, "If it were not laughed at, it would not be the Tao." And he says, "so it's okay to laugh at it." Well ... maybe not. Maybe only fools laugh at the Tao.
From Legge's translation:
"Scholars of the lowest class, when they have heard about it, laugh greatly at it. If it were not (thus) laughed at, it would not be fit to be the Tao." Perhaps, ideally, it's not okay to laugh at the Tao.
In the Gia-fu Feng/Jane English translation (41):
"The wise student hears of the Tao and practices it diligently.
The average student hears of the Tao and gives it thought now and again.
The foolish student hears of the Tao and laughs aloud.
If there were no laughter, the Tao would not be what it is."
I found this to be mechanical and somewhat cold at times, but the humor was good.
what was it ... a date?
I enjoyed the talk, but Do your duty, pay your mortgage. Even if you are aware that banks create money out of thin air. Well I think it's my duty to help expose the fraud, but do it in a detached way. :)
That's the "thing" with ND...Puzzling!
Cheers.
bogg off
Be here now...
But how do I get away from I? I had a NDE at age 8 or so. It was Divine! I'm 61 now, was told I would leave this body along with many others I would help lead to the Light. I look forward to the task when I'm called. But I'd like to visit that place in the meantime. I used to do this trick in High school where I tricked my mind into thinking of absolutely nothing for a split second, until a thought brought me back. But it didn't bring me anywhere. I'm frustrated. I know I am loved by a greater consciousness. I frequently dream of flying, in vivid technicolor. Fun! I just lift off. I can just float, or move really fast. But I do not often know where I am. Sometimes I sit by a window and the entire building I'm in flies. But I want more control. What do you suggest?
+sparky, re: What do you suggest? I'd just enjoy what is here and now for what it is, NOW. "What's wrong with right now?" ~ Sailor Bob
...but just in case, buy my book...
so now I completely understand why Jesus chose the cross at 33 yrs and Buddha decided to eat "bad" food (and die).
can you let go of the now?....Resistance has its place? I think so. Stand true to yourself, no? My ego needs validation. Eek.
