- www.playbill.com/multimedia/video The web-slinging wall-crawler gets the Broadway treatment in "Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark". While delays, injuries and recent high-profile changes in the creative team have plagued the production, "Spider-Man" continues to be a commercial success, even while in previews. Reeve Carney stars as Peter Parker/Spidey, Jennifer Damiano as his love interest Mary Jane Watson and Patrick Page as Norman Osborn/the Green Goblin. Music by U2's Bono and The Edge, and original direction and conception by Julie Taymor.

To me, this is the "Carrie" of our time. Beautiful story, wonderful songs, talented actors...but it's just done in EVERY WRONG WAY POSSIBLE.
AGREED
Listen all that I'm hearing is that it's gonna get a WAY better and REALLY underrated revival that isn't complete shit in about ten or twenty years
And shit man, I'll wait for that
Maybe they're trying to emulate The Producers' "Springtime for Hitler"?
the songs are just mediocre, the story takes all the magic about spiderman. It’s sad that such good cast had to work on this
Carrie is not wrong at all. You all just don't get the artistic direction of RSC
Are the highlights the parts of the musical where people didn't get extremely injured?
First Name Last Name that only leaves you with five minutes of footage.
dddddaaaaaaaammmmnn throwin shade.
@Gwendolynn Rhein really? Why? where can I find more about this? I've just discovered about this like three days ago
@@ginandromeda1618 The spiderman jump at 0:42. The way the trick was rigged was deceptivly dangerous. The 2 point Harness (attaching just at the hips) slacks at the highest point in that jump. If the accrobat didn`t have enough momentum ( already hard to achive with a slack line) they got tangled in the ropes.
The trick is now done with a 3point harness, (it has an added saftey line in the back).
Trust me, this show was DEFINITELY worth watching. I absolutely loved it.
Oh ok! I’ll definitely have to go see it…
This honestly looks cool
It's a shame that the problems happened with it
I got to see it as a kid and loved it, cause at the end of the day that’s the audience they were going for

I think ppl need to "be humble" about it😉
Got to take my 2 young sons to see and I remember when spiderman jumped up on balcony right next to our seats and then dove off it. The boys were into it 100% after that!

Ayooooo that sounds DOPE
The spider who bit Peter actually has a back story?? Hahahhaa cracks me up
No
CLOCK SPIDER !
@Failingpepper 11 oh yeah, that one storyline with the Web Of Fate and the vampires. Comics are crazy, man...
Im from Mexico, went to NY with my family and we saw this play, we loved it
The Green Goblin singing “A freak like me needs company“ its a very catchy song;
I have a crush on Spider-Man and when he gave me a thumbs up during the play, made me a happy lady
Wow something like that happened to me too haha,The Green Goblin winked at me several times
PRIVELEDGED MUCH??
Years later just understanding the South Park joke
Yeah, strange feeling
The set looks absolutely incredible, oh my GOD.
LMFAO THEY CASTED THE SPIDER. I CANT. IM DONE
It isnt The Spider that bit him, this is a Greek goddess called arachne
This is Broadway?! It looks more like an amusement park show.
It’s the most expensive broadway production ever
It’s a great concept but ya know
I saw Spider-Man last evening and have to admit that it's epic - an awesome experience in the theatre. It's not the greatest musical of all-time, but it's the most spectacular ... and that counts too. The critics did not get this one right. An audience doesn't give a huge standing ovation for s*it !!
This should have been filmed for dvd.
Who thought this was a good idea
Deadpool did.
Bono
I’m guessing u haven’t seen the show
Costume was good
Bono, of course hahahaha. Of all people to do this and ruin it this badly. Leave it to Bono.
This could’ve been great if things didn’t go wrong
How would they make things not go wrong
That Only Bacon good point
@@MontgomeryDelegation the production was rushed and they only had one workshop, I think if they redid it today the producers/company/everyone in charge would be MUCH more wary and provide wayyyy more time for them to actually work through everything instead of rushing it onto stage. They wanted to get it out as soon as possible and all of the errors could've been avoided had they taken more time to think it through instead of trying to get it out before they thought the spider-man hype died down lol
Hannah Becraft I see
Yknow this should have just been a play. Making it a musical was uh... how do I put this..? Not that good of an idea. 😕
They did make an album called "The Amazing Spiderman: A Rockcomic" in the '70s. It also had Doctor Strange on it. I had a copy
Brian Toal The difference between all of those (fantastic) musicals and Turn Off the Dark is execution. Les Miz, Cats, and Evita (You didn’t mention this, but Beetlejuice too!) were all hits because the execution was there. Can’t say the same for Turn Off the Dark. Then again, it’s my opinion. If you think I dunno what I’m talking about, that’s fine by you, man.
Brian Toal Oh! My bad lol
I get where you’re coming from tho.
Thank you, George Santos, for taking this epic American fable to the lights of Broadway!!
You know they show is bad when you have some of the most talented working actors in your company and even they can’t save ass.
This is one show that should've been recorded for prosperity..
so... Rogers The Musical anyone?
If only Captain Rogers got a musical--OH WAIT! GO WATCH HAWKEYE!
Boy Falls from the Sky
Most amazing sets I have ever seen.
Did you help make them? Are you working on any projects?
No. This was broadway. I saw it before the changes. I loved it--even though they had tools the show due to the wirework going awry. Right now I am doing Tarzan, then Mulan (both jr versions) and then Mainstage Shrek. I just won best costumes in all of the bay area for "The Wiz" (SFBroadway).
Ooo la la! Congratulations!!
I was lucky enough to see the Taymor version, then the "revamped" version. I'm SO GLAD I saw the Taymor version. What she was doing was uncharted territory, and it was amazingly breathtaking. Only thing I didn't like was the Taymor ending, that needed work, plus there was a small technical difficulty involving the net/web. Her version had more depth, more mythology, while the revamped version (upon which I wanted to leave at intermission) was slick, and didn't have the depth I felt that Taymor was reaching for. Visually, pure Taymor. She's a genius, and will always think that of her.
The problem with Taymor’s Version was that she was on Uncharted territory, Spiderman’s story is about a nerdy kid and that anyone can be a superhero no matter who they are (which wasnt really in either version but more in the 2.0 version) Taymors show was more about mythological creatures and Spiderman being mythological which no one can RELATE too.. Yes Taymor had creative vision, but too much creative control given to her by the producer who was completely stupid and didn’t know what to do.
Sclap Skitz She usually does great when she is under supervision and not given too much free reign.
Too bad her genius was taken over by her hubris and ego
The most expensive parody in Broadway history
This could have run for much longer and could have been truly amazing 😭
This musical is incredible. Everyone who hasn't seen it definitely needs to!
Is it still playing???
@@stevenford494 no
All I've gathered from this is that nazis are dancing in front of a hellish red backdrop, a crazy cat furry is tormenting Peter Parker by photobombing him, a sexy spider woman is singing about stars and Spidey is fighting the Green Goblin in front of the world's smallest skyscraper.
I watched this once, I remember when Spiderman waved to me right before we was going to swing, the memories..
Aw, that was too easy. Maybe it would have helped if you turned off the dark!
MvC3. Nice.
"Gonna rough you up like a Broadway musical!!"
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
@Joshua Burks I could see Deadpool interupting to boo the play while throwing popcorn at random people.
saw the show on broadway over spring break. It was so awesome. I loved it. totally worth seeing.
Swinging Swaying Staying.
Stunning Spider Show.
Singing Sensation.
Music Majestic.
Web Weaving Wonder.
I don't care what the critics say, this looks and sounds great!
I hope I get the chance to see it!
I saw this show on Saturday night. So amazing!
I haven't seen the show, but from what I've seen on youtube, Reeve Carney seems too cool to be Peter Parker.
I saw this is broadway and it was amazing. :) I loved it....
Nice to see the gigantic spider pulling an Eva Peron pose though.
The sets are just gorgeous.
Where was this spider-man in Across the Spider-Verse?!
They couldn’t have made the wires holding spider man while he flies more obvious
It’s kind of impossible not to
To add to the realism, some shows didn't have wires!
Not sure why all the hate. I would have loved to see this.
The spider part would have killed me. Is this the spider that bites peter or that weird lady of the webs that watches all the different dimensions of spiderman. If she's the later, ok I follow. But the former...!?!
It's worse than that. She's supposed to be the Greek Goddess Arachne who ... _chose???_ ... Peter to be Spiderman??... for some reason???
idk...the show got Taymor-ed..That's only logical expanation..
@@HaunaMyKiki OMG LOL
fab show !!
I um...thought this was a parody i half remembered from something like it's always sunny in Philadelphia
I saw it on Thursday. It was really good. It looked cheesy to me at firt too, but it turned out awesome.
I’m kinda sad this show is off. Even tho people are saying it’s stupid and all, I love everything Spider-Man and I really wanted to see it when I heard about it.
If they brought this back but newer technology this would be SO GOOD. I mean look at what they’re doing at Disneyland California now with their Spider-Man show. It’s amazing!
0:52 Hey! Madame Web from the Animated Series!
Ehh not exactly
I... love that costume
i was there that day it was spectacular
Grandiosa obra, tuve la suerte de ir a verla en Manhattan y quedé muy sorprendido con el gran trabajo que hicieron
I do not understand...
When he's flying around with the 'web', there was an accident and he died
Harry Watts he didn’t die he just broke a lot of body parts lol it sucks
@@harrywithanh You mean Reeve Carney? XD He's the furthest thing from dead
Castle Garden I think it was another actor that got hurt it wasn’t reeve
@@castlegarden2999 There was no chance of Reeve doing stunts like that
Imagine if this show had actually worked, and we saw this version of Spider Man in No Way Home
For anyone wondering it’s a fun and great play. Music and acting was great. It’s just that a comical amount of things would go wrong. It’s not the actors or scripts fault but the accidents and mismanagement of the stunt gear that made the play flop.
A singing radioactive spider? Thats it, I've officially seen it all.
just saw it yesterday...they worked out the accidents...its accident free now so shut up and go see it
it was a very fun show:)
Wow. The spider can SING.
i feel your pain, i live in a small city where no one comes to perform
DONT REMIND ME OF THE FOOTBALL FIELD DREAM, QB
@SimonSaysFranklin YES still going. just saw it last night and it was amazing! It got a standing ovation. Idk what the negative press was all about. the effects and the acrobatics were awesome and it was really funny.
Just saw this after it's opening. It's totally amazing; don't be fooled by any of the bad press it might be getting.
gonna rough u up like a broadway musical
And know SpongeBob has a musical as well as Spiderman
@@floatinjellies Yeah seriously. Less dangerous too. I thought the volcano scene where Ethan had to climb through those ladders was dangerous but holy shit.
I've never been to a Broadway Play, but I think this would be really fun.
Why the hell am I only finding out that Spiderman was on Broadway?! And that it was the most expensive broadway show produced?!
May someone enlighten me why it was so expensive to produce? 😅
Because of the web slinging tech, aerial stunt work and the tech that goes with it, the set design, and the theatre it opened in had to be renovated just to be able to fit all the stunts in it.
Not to mention the unplanned lawsuits and _months_ worth of extra preview extensions...
@@lizziemckee3204 I’m assuming King Kong had some of those issues and that’s why they weren’t open for a while.
i was here yay
I remember seeing this
There weren’t many highlights from the Broadway Show. It was horrid….except for the actor who played the Green Goblin when we saw it. He was good. The fight, though, in the ‘air’ between Spider-Man and The GG was a farce! 🥴 I don’t remember if it was Patrick Page or not. Julie Taymor who conceived the show and was ultimately fired from it graduated the year after I from the same high school!
Our culture is rotting from within :D
In fairness, this ended. Lol. It very much did end, though not before like half the cast got injured from the stunts.
Looks good to me!
@ikazuchisamurai The giant singing spider just so happens to be Madame Web.
Here for MAD episode
I used to think the “Rogers” musical from Hawkeye was too goofy and unlikely, but honestly seeing this I think they hit the mark pretty well
WAS THERE OVER & OVER
Toby was in Seabiscuit
Andrew was in the social network
There is/was a Spider-Man Musical
And a learn English with Spider-Man book Series.
@ikazuchisamurai what a story mark!
Hold on, they gave the spider a song?
J.J daily bugle in the play I knew his brother , and met him numerous times he's a nice guy i wish he get me a meeting with reeve . the most talented guy in the play was definetly osborne pure talent
IM NOT CRYING YOUR CRYING
QWERTY _ *You’re
1:08 dammmmm.... Thats some good stuff
I would like to see Tom Holland's react
Thank god someone that agrees with me :D
Whats the song's name from 0:38- 0:46 ?.. BTW the show on BROADWAY is EPIC!! i suggest everyone seeing!!!
Congratulations spiderman, you win the award for "being the plot of everyones jokes" award.
fun fact, George Santos played all the roles in this
@magictouch96 Yeah, I completely agree.
I don't need no protection, so here's a little lesson: When I leave the house, insured by my Smith And Wesson - a .357, cold bobbin' off 11.
It puts you in hell, or it could place you up in heaven. You lookin' for trouble, then it's trouble I spark. But I'm tellin' you now.... I get Loc'ed after dark
They really made the spider sing?
@ikazuchisamurai The gigantic spider was the arch-enemy in V1.0. In V2.0 she is a guardian for peter
Or the highlights where they got injured
It's not completely shut down. They are moving it to Los Vegas
At least it's a million times more entertaining than the snooze fest that is Morbius, that's for sure. 😂
0:16-0:20
Does that remind anyone else of "Military Fairy"?
@shineeforyou Yeah I saw it a few months ago. It was awesome! I saw it with Reeve though lol
@SeaBearisNumber1 Spider-Man works in mysterious ways.
These lyrics... Oh my God lmao
the bits that they showed in this video made the show look really bad. i've seen this show and i thought it was amazing with some really great songs and special effects (other than the "web coming out of his hip" that was mentioned below (;
@jack111sally That's what radioactive spiders do after biting somebody.
0:15 .. i thought the docotr guy was tim allen
