The black veneer that continues through the cavity cover…. Friggin awesome.
Thanks Tye! I was originally hoping that the cavity would be below the veneer line, but then I decided on all the electronics and that plan changed to have to make it bigger.

I actually do the same side dots with aluminium tubing but I also use 6mm for the fret markers and fill them with the sawdust too.
And dremmel for a blade switch, are we related? 🤣

I agree natural wood finish was really the only option for this guitar unless you would have painted it and who would have wanted to cover up that beautiful wood grain and patterns. Not me for sure. It looks great and sounds good as well. I like the way you turned the exposed biscuit in to a feature and did not try to to blend in in to the rest of the body.
Natural finished was easily the best option. Cheers!

I agree, that block of silky oak to cover the finger join in the blackwood is my favorite feature too.
Natural was also the right choice when working with such lovely woods.
The wood combinations came together much better than I anticipated. Very pleased!

I was following along on Instagram and absolutely love how your build turned out! I especially like how you use black veneer on the joints, I'll definitely have to steal that on one of my next builds.

The biscuit fix was pretty cool...although it might have looked more intentional if you had carried it up through the pickups. Very cool build, though. I really like the fret markers filled with the ebony dust.
Cheers! I did think about that, but wanted the top to be mostly uninterrupted so the carves had a bit more flow.

What is that funny red vice around 19 mins in? I live seeing all your jigs and mats etc. Plus the guitar looks awesome. Great stuff.
Thanks Daniel! It’s a vice designed to cut fine angles, likely for box making. The black disc is magnetic so it keeps the saw perfectly vertical and then you can adjust the angle up to 45 degrees. I like to use it on small pieces of wood where I want a precise cut.

I really love your work, you're great. The screws in the back plate on the control panel though, humm. Why didn't you use magnets instead? All brilliant otherwise 😊😊
Cheers! Felt like screws would match the exposed trem and the neck screws on the back.
That's a gorgeous guitar. And once you'd got the accent strip you really couldn't stain, even if you hadn't planned to :) Nice one.

What an amazing achievement to build this guitar. I’ve watched the Dr Who and LOTR videos and they are amazing builds as well. Did you come from a woodworking background? I can only guess you have built many guitars previously to get to this level of excellence.

Thanks! It’s just a dyed timber veneer. Nothing too fancy.

I have some question to the building. What kind of tape und superclue do you use, for hold all the diferent miling tamplates in place?
and what is that black material that you put into the wood glue?
Cheers! It’s regular painters tape and CA glue to hold the templates. Do you mean the veneers? They are .5mm dyed black timber veneers.
I bought like 8 tickets for this one. Sad not to have won but it was the most magnificent one.

That looks amazing. I would've been cursing like a mad man when that biscuit joint revealed itself during the carving process. I had a small worm hole reveal itself during mine and definitely had a few choice words then. In my case I was able to carve a bit further to get rid of it. You came up with a great fix. Love the veneer accents - now I wish I did that with the stripes for my build. Also it's really cool you went with those chameleon pickups. I suggested looking into those in your announcement video. Crazy amount of tonal options with that configuration. How was the wiring process?
Ah, yes i remember that suggestion now. Thanks! Thought I would challenge myself with some different wiring again for GGBO. the wiring wasn’t too bad. Just kept it methodical and soldered as much as I could before putting it in the guitar.
Love the shape and the carve. Not so sure about the controls layout, seems a bit cluttered for live situation, but for the purposes of this build I guess it's justified. One thing I wish was made differently is the fret tangs. Clipped and consealed tangs look much more premium IMO. That being said, great build overall.
Cheers, I’m pleased with the playability so far. I think for playing live, someone would have the toggle switches and pots set to suit the music and then change between pickups as needed. Playing at home - no issue at all.
Out of curiosity
does the panel of judges look down upon custom builders who use bolt on necks?
No idea. It’s a peer vote from all of the builders in the competition, so people can vote how they like.

I think that guitar would have looked 100 time's better with a maple fretboard .
