I love that recycled wood! I have made a couple of basses using wood from old dressers found at the resale shop. Much like your flooring, the panels are made of smaller pieces. We don't see all of the glue joints with the layers of stain and varnish they used to use, but a guitar body can celebrate that history.
Your imagination was running wild with this, and it turned out pretty cool

It’s awesome to see the whole process. Such a cool design. And just brave to see it through. The mid execution adjustments were really cool.
I only have 1 mortise chisel, because I pretty much only do 3/8” mortises. It sits there on my wall-o-tools for sometimes months. But when I need it, I love it. It’s a brute.

@@shockthefox My tool acquisition syndrome can be worse than my gear. I’m especially a sucker for neglected hand tools begging to be brought back to working condition. My mortise chisel is just the normal Narex, and it’s great. It holds its edge well, which is good because it’s a huge bevel and I don’t do fancy microbeveling and stuff.

This really is an interesting guitar design. Dave Dickens on his youtube channel uses one bolt on a few of his guitar designs. Some of his designs he calls travel guitars and he has used one bolt with screw thread inserts. The one he uses is different than the one you used. They are more of just a large slotted bolt that has a straight cut through the top of the bolt like a giant screw. Your guitar sounds really nice. Has nice rich tones with a bunch of sustain. If you had not mentioned that you had to change the design and up the acrylic riser where the strings come through the body I would have thought you planed it to be this way all along. it works well with the other riser of acrylic you used for the bridge it matches well with it.

That is one cool guitar. I really enjoy seeing builders/luthiers trying new approaches to making guitars. It's great to see something innovative rather than the same couple of designs being done over & over again since the first electric guitars were built. Thanks for sharing this video, I really enjoyed it. Great looking and sounding instrument! Oh... the vinegar and steel wool concoction for staining turned out great as well. It worked especially nice on the white oak. Best regards. ~Glenn

That's a very cool guitar 👍 may have to buy me some tickets for it. I've been experimenting with the iron vinaigrette sauce stuff on oak and walnut as I can get pieces from work and apparently you can get some QUEBRACHO Powdered TANNIN to make it really black but I just made a cup of black tea with 4 tea bags and wiped that on before applying the iron sauce made a huge difference in the colour.

The weak link is the plastic tail piece riser. I'd bet money it will either bend or crack from constant pressure over time. Tempered glass would have been more stable but it's almost impossible to work with.

I wonder if the original builders of the boxcar realized that after a million miles, the oak they were using would be so expensive to replace, that the industry would use composites of aluminium, steel, fiberglass, polyurethane, and insulation to make boxcar flooring. I'm sure it would have saddened them to know that old growth forests were a thing of the past, and the thirst for lumber would drive man to push nature to its brink, considering the fact that we are part of the very world we are destroying.
Making guitars from recycled materials, is a fantastic idea.
