It’s so nice to see a wee bit more of Mr Desert DYI. There is something so wonderful to see two people working together to create something they both enjoy. ❤
Thank you so much!
Well said
I think the original piece is beautiful!!
It was
I love how this project turned out. I love that you’re setting the example of using what you have or find or thrift to make beautiful things. And I love that you tell people that mistakes are okay-you can repaint or redo. You have a great channel & a wonderful family!
Thank you so much!
That bed turned out great! When things were good over a decade ago, I bought my first brand new sofa and love seat. Then before the good times dumped a few years back, I found the perfect coffee table, and bought our first brand new bedroom set. We had always used antique beds and altered them a bit to fit a queen sized bed. Now we are happy as pigs in clover on our king sized bed. And the dog and cat no longer kick us out of bed. This was after 40 years of marriage.
Haha you deserve that king sized bed!!!
Wow! Y’all did an awesome job on the headboard. It was so funny to see your husband’s face. I’m sure it is heavy. Just glad he didn’t get hurt. Thanks for sharing, Cory❤
Thank you so much 🤗
@@DesertDIY you’re so welcome 😊
At last! We get to see your handsome husband! Lots of ingenuity, creativity, and hard work went into this project. Beautiful transformations can be achieved with very little money. I have done it for years. Love seeing your spin on the subject.
Thank you so much! He has been so against being on camera for so long but now he is feeling better about it. Yay!
Your husband absolutely needs to be on camera. There are a lot of ladies out in You Tube Land who want to see a handsome young man with building skills and a positive can do attitude. You are a lovely couple. I enjoy every episode. ❤️❤️2U & yours
I love how different the bed looked! I found a headboard on the side of the road for my parent’s room, when I repainted their room. I found the perfect modern headboard that had similar lines to their antique dresser and wash stand. They have loved it for the past 10+ years. I just bought paint sample size paint to repaint it and tie the look together. I love that you are encouraging people to do this very thing everyday. Even if you aren’t on a tight budget, you can do this and use the money you saved for something else, like a family outing of mini vacation. And if you are on a tight budget - you save money and get the bonus of feeling awesome for doing something creative and resourceful 😊
What an amazing transformation! It really looks fantastic, and what a stroke of luck that you didn’t have to cut off that top section. I also loved the look on your husband’s face doing the heavy lifting….it was priceless, what a trooper. I admire him for deciding to further his education, and know all of his hard work will be well worth it. 🥰
Thanks so much! 😊
How smart and cost effective! That really made a difference in the whole feel of that room. Luv how you decorated it. Now you can make a bench with the back of the bed! Or, add it as a top back to another piece. Turned out beautifully cory, awesome team effort too!!
Thank you so much Dar!
Stunning. I love how you laughed at your husbands face when he was holding that heavy piece of the headboard.
Haha yes we always get a good laugh
Love the bed. Looks so beautiful. You and your husband work very well together. Great job
Thank you so much!
Girl, you are telling me about it getting hot 🔥🔥🔥 what's up with this weather here? I'm sure people are wondering... Yes, she and I live about 45 minutes apart 😂 anyway, you did a fabulous job girlie girl! Can't wait to see more and can't wait to meet you one day! It'll be like meeting a celebrity... I'm gonna be ⭐ struck! I'm serious, I really look up to you and You've taught me so much, so thank you from the bottom of my heart
Thank you so much! No need to be star struck! I am just a normal person like anyone else
While the original bed was really cool, Dracula's Lair is a good description of it's style. 😂 Love the change, love the "light and bright"! ❤
Haha thank you!
Tell your hubs we enjoyed “The struggle is real” face! Great job! Love the makeover challenge!
Thank you! Will do!
Its so lovely!! Definitely a much brighter and better transformation!! Im sure you feel like a queen sleeping in your bedroom now! And the best part was it was almost completely free!! Thank you for the challenge Cory!
So true! Thank you so much!
I think the nightstands would have looked nice being painted the same color! I LOVE the bed!
Great idea!! Thank you!
That head board looks like it now FITS!
Yay! So glad you think so
Yay Corey and Mr D-DYI!!!❤Love the new look of the bed-headboard & that you kept the finials so still retains some of the original piece of character!! Also loved the simple idea of the black “metal bar” on top!! Y’all are Amazing!! Couple💓💫💓Loved that candle too-I had bought 2 head busts with a succulent in each at Walmart a few years ago (look like concrete) & adore them!! Can’t wait to see more ugly duckling entries🌸🌿🌸💫
What a great transformation on the bed!! I love watching the Ugly Duckling videos!! I have a metal bed that I need to work on that I bought for $25.00 several years ago! It was painted a hideous green and I bought 3 yards of fabric, cut it up into 3 inch strips and I turned under the edges of the fabric and wrapped the bedframe with it. It's time for a change and now I'm itching to work on it!! Thank you for the inspiration Cory!!
That is going to be a great project! Thank you!
Your husband is a handy guy!! I love the way you got the look you wanted "on the cheap" as we old people say! Loving your content. Tell your husband that going back to school as you get older is difficult. My 29-year-old daughter is working on her B.A. and it is kicking her butt. However, it's worth the struggle, and in my opinion as a former university advisor, he chose a great major! Cory, keep the faith and have a blessed Easter with your beautiful family.
Thank you so much Mary!
Wonderful! Nice to see you hubby...very handy!
Thank you! 😊
*Cory, I am glad you didn't cut the finials off of your headboard❣️😉💜 IMHO, that feature really MAKES the bed look elegant, yet rustic with its finish. 😊*
*It was a good idea to add the black accents to tie it in with your night stands, and I was very glad to see an adjustable bedframe base, because I wondered how (and if) an adjustable bedframe would work and look, so thanks for showing us that feature.😁 Please 🙏 DON'T be quick to donate the part of the headboard you removed from your bed! It's the perfect piece to makeover into a piece of architectural salvage-style coat rack (like a coat tree without legs) to hang near a front door or in a mud room. You could overlay a thin strip of about 6 to 8 inches wide of beadboard at the bottom, do a chippy, distressed finish and add hooks and sell it for $60 in your booth❣️ Or, even use it as a display in your booth. What are your thoughts⁉️🥰💜💕*
Thank you for the great ideas
@@DesertDIY *As always, my pleasure, Cory❣️💕💜*
It looks so much better!! We’ll done
Thank you!
Boy the room looked great. I love how you always encourage us to use what we have. I really liked the color of the bed. And your finishing touches really tied it all together. Love that you and your husband work together like you do. My husband and I could never see eye to eye. Lol. Praying Jesus blesses you and family. Love from a follower of Jesus.
Thanks so much! 😊
Well, you are a great encouragement & America is drowning in consumerism. Plus, I’ve adored your family dynamic from the start. Elizabeth
Thank you so much Elizabeth. I miss the days when everyone had old furniture and regular homes without comparing to social media and advertising
One coat of matte latex paint and it looks amazing! Thanks for the tip about matte paint over a glossy finish. The dark finish peeking through the brush strokes makes it look perfectly aged. Using the lighter color makes the beautiful finials really stand out. Removing the foot board and the top portion of the headboard made the whole room open up. Like a breath of fresh air. I'm definitely inspired.
I agree! Thank you so much!
Wow! That really transformed that bed, it came out so cute!!!!! Can't wait to see more. Hi to Mr Desert diy lol!
Thank you so much!
Oh my goodness, this came out so amazing! I just love it and I’m blown away by your insight and how thrifty you are. Your attitude is wonderful thank you for sharing this wonderful makeover. It must be so difficult with your husband going to school full-time. It will be worth it in the end, you are obviously a very supportive wife.
Thank you so much!
I love the change. Amazing how taking the top off makes it a different still. 👍
Yes it does! Thank you
I don’t like for things to match. Love the pieces.
I appreciate that as well
Metamorfoza sypialni na plus 👏👍 Wesołych Świąt 🐣🐤
Thank you!
Turned out beautiful. I love thrifted videos . They are so fun to see. Thank you!
Glad you like them!
Hi 👋
I love this makeover, but mostly I love your positive spirit. You always seem to find the silver lining in everything! 💜
Just a very small suggestion, I wonder if some brown wax on top of the gray would make it appear to match the night stands and dresser a little more. If not, it looks great as is! Much love from AZ!
Thanks for the tips!
Wow, that headboard turned out really pretty!
Thank you
Very nice! I am also imagining what the dresser and nightstands would look like with a lightening paint wash finish…maybe when you paint the walls.
That would be cool!
You just started painting and already it looks like the paint matches your night nstands🎉😂❤
Haha yay!
This reminds me of some of your projects from the early days of your channel. I love these use-what-you-have DIY projects. And removing that top piece really drew attention to the beautiful finials of your bed. So lovely! ❤
Thank you! 😊 I am so glad you liked it!
The room looks so good. You work so hard ( and your hubby ) you deserve a relaxing space.😅🎉❤
Thank you so much!
Your bed turned out stunning! I love the flat paint, too!!
Thanks so much! 😊
The top part of the bed would make a great “dead and breakfast “ Halloween sign
That turned out FANTASTIC!!!
Thank you!
It looks great, most designers would tell you don't do matchy matchy with your furniture. It has more character this way.
That is true! My husband loves everything to match so we meet in the middle
I love the look. I have a big, heavy, vintage desk (not antique) that I've been wanting to do something with to change the dark wood but it seemed so daunting a task to sand, prime, paint and then use and antiquing gel/glaze on. Your process really mimics that look (in one step!) and I am inspired to give it a try. Thank you for sharing this!
Awesome! I bet it will turn out awesome!
You should build or buy, a bench, and put that top to your headboard as the back, then paint and sell it at your shop.
Cool idea
Your bed looks so great. You did an awesome job. I love it!
If you wanted to match the dressers with the headboard, ask your hubby to cut up the sideboards or the footboard for the tops of your night stands. Then do the same antique paint job you did on your headboard .
Great idea!!
I absolutely love how the headboard turned out! How perfect that it was already in two pieces?? And the paint finish on it is gorgeous! The room looks beautiful!
I am sooooo glad it was already 2 pieces. That was so lucky. Thank you Erin!
I would paint the side tables to match the headboard. It would tie them all together better.
Maybe one day!
Love this makeover ❤ That aged color is beautiful 🤩
Thank you!
Ok I accept the challenge. I have a used bench, all wood, with a back and arm rests for the back yard, I bought 2 maybe even 3 years ago now. My partner tightened it all up as it was wobbly and Im supposed to paint it! Taking up space at top of garage! We are finally having a bit of warmer spring days here in Southern California high desert. I look at what grows in texas similar zone too. We are 8b. Its that or pull more wild mustard weeds! We bought an eccelctic built house by an artist. Its kind of open lodge style but mixed with her heritage and has Euorpean style flat slab cabinets. I need to blog about our upgrades. Nothing structural really. But....all look up when they come in. Building is 64 foot long and it has 64 foot skylight at ridge line! And the west side unfortunately the mountain view side has 7 foot tall windows about 2 feet off the floor. Thankfull a bit of porch overhang just makes it bad with setting sun but then its behind the mountains. We are in a valley between the Sierras and the Inyos here. So in the winter its only light from 8am to 4pm! But in summer if I want to take a nap during the day I put an umbrella over my head on the bed! Or go to our trailer! So my project is going to get done!
You did a nice job. Totally transferred it to a new look.
Thank you!
Now, the bed looks absolutely amazing. The art and bedding look awesome
Thanks so much!
What a great color that was for the head board, and such a bonus that it was free. Your room looks so pretty, calm and inviting. Thank you for sharing the process.
I love that sculptural candle, too. I've seen them on very high-end websites for $$$. I had no idea that home goods had them.
Oh honey, i just love it. You are so talented. Hugs from Arizona.
Thank you so much!
The bed is beautiful! Y’all did a fabulous job redoing it! 👍🏻👍🏻
The bed looks fantastic. Thanks for hosting the challenge again this Spring.
You are so welcome! Thank you so much for joining
Wow, that turned out amazing! You and your husband are a great team. Tfs ❤
Thank you so much!
WOW that turned out beautiful and I love how you decorated your room kudos to both of you 💕
Thanks so much! 😊
The bed turned out great. The bedroom looks really nice. My living room and dining room has that federalist style furniture. It is all cherry and mahogany but that is out of style now. There is no MDF or plywood in any of it. I thought about painting it but at this stage of my life I’ve decided to keep it the way it is. It cost thousands when it was new
Great job you two. Room looks lovely and comfy now
Thanks so much! 😊
Love this transformation!!! Well done❤ love repurposing materials
Thank you!
The bed looks beautiful! What an amazing transformation! Well done.
Thanks so much! 😊
Very beautiful bed, I’d even dare say, looks like Restoration Hardware ❤ you did good!
Thank you! 😊 that's a great compliment
@@DesertDIY they have a bed that looks very similar, called French something, lol, can’t remember, but definitely French country, difference being there’s some upholstery on head and foot boards, nothing you can’t do, price was well over $6,000
What a beautiful job you've done. 😊
Thank you! 😊
I thought the bed was kinda neat before the makeover, but I have to admit, I like it painted too! Your hubby is cute!! Hard working too!!
Thank you!! 😊
I love that color (taupe, sometimes called French Linen)! I don't like matchy-matchy on the bedroom furniture. If they play well together, that's the best way!
Yes, totally agree on using what you have and getting those mistints (I never walk by that Lowe's section without scoping it out, lol). Sometimes I add calcium carbonate to it to make my own chalk-style paint for blending.
So glad for you and your helpful hubby! Hey, my ex (husband; kids' dad) took one C++ class in his early 40's and was making so much money, so fast - his head was spinning. Computer science is an awesome field! He was originally a CNC machinist & made pretty good money there, but once he got into the tech background, he took it over the top. No regrets there! Anyway, fabulous makeover as usual. This will look gorgeous in your white room!
Thank you so much! I'm going to let him know that because I think it will help me stay motivated.
Absolutely! 🥰@@DesertDIY 💰
Outtake was a good one..showed my husband n he said he felt his pain lol cause I get him to do the impossible all the time.
Headboard turned out beautifully. Have a awesome week.
Haha thank God for our husbands! Thank you for watching!
Great job. The color alone transformed this piece and brought it up to date😊 😊
Thank you! 😊
Thanks for the video, Cory and Mr. Desert DIY! I agreed with your dislike of the bed/headboard. It definitely had a weird shape. When your husband took off the top, though, wow! I didn’t know you could put latex over an oil-based finish. I am curious to see how this holds up. Would you let us know down the road? I loved this transformation. Your bedroom looks really good, and I don’t think trying to match the nightstands perfectly would work. This works! I hope you have a wonderful week. Enjoy your “new” bedroom. You both deserve it! 😊❤🙏
I sure will! Thank you!
Looks great! I have to do this with my bedroom furniture!
Yes!
Looks amazing. And I love the whole finished look with the white bedding and the art print above.
Thank you so much!
Absolutely gorgeous. Love the transformation and finish. 💕
Love the bed !
Thank you
A good thing is you like this,
i was feeling 😢such a beautifull bed before, hoped you did the night stands, Taste are so different, like the challenge part👍
Oh my! If i put that much effort into a piece & it came out this beatifully... i wd want to keep it! Lovely job!!
Thank you so much!
That looks great! You should be so proud!!! ❤❤❤
Looks just beautiful❤
Thank you! 😊
I’m seeing that “federalist style is popping up everywhere- Nice change up and match to the nightstands
I guess things always come back around!
Great job!! You’re so encouraging! Love your blue and white lamps
Thank you so much!
The headboard looks great. Maybe a different comforter
If you have an Ollies near you, be sure to check out the paints. They have basic colors of spray paint for $4, also primer and Oops paints.
I dont think we have Ollie's here
I love the paint color! And art! The room looks great- Thank you for sharing this.
Thank you!
Great job. This looks awesome!
Glad you like it thank you
Hi its Andrea from England. Love the colour and I think it's better with out the top piece. Can't wait to see what you do next. THANKS FOR SHARING 😊😊😊😊
Thanks so much! 😊
Looks so much better without that huge pediment.
I think so too!
Excellent makeover. I’m working along with you today turning an old tv cabinet into a bar cabinet. Idea-the other furniture might look good in your new paint color too!
That sounds awesome! Thank you
The bed looks sooo good Cory! 🥰🥰🥰
Thank you!
Turned out great!❤
Thank you
@@DesertDIY very welcome
It looks great. I’d do a similar treatment to the bedside tables. ❤❤❤
Thank you!
Perhaps a coat of wax over the paint would add to the wood grain color. Just a thought😊
Awesome
Thank you!
WOW that is a great transformation! Another great one😊
Thanks so much! 😊
Bed looks great! Job well done girl! 😊♥️
Thank you!! 😊
Great job!❤ It!
Love the end result
It looks great! Better with that top piece taken off!
I think so too!
I think you should paint the nightstands to match.
I think it looks good with your other furniture 👍🙋🏽♀🙋🏽♀ Beautiful job 😉
Thank you! 🤗
Cory! Perfection!
Thank you!
Love how the head board turned out I bet the person who gave you it regrets it when they see it now
Hahah who knows if they'll ever see it
