Wow, great to hear from you, Koen. Yeah, some things never change... two decades later, here I am, still shoehorning weird Linux systems on 32-bit ARMs. I was originally kind of thinking of using ipkg for X1Plus... As it turns out, Jamey and I are working together these days, doing business as Accelerated Tech. Hope you're doing well.
Absolutely awesome! Something like this should have been included from the factory, or at least an option. I just found this looking around for X1C mods.
Absolutely interested. On the Bambu forum, you mention the HW is open source. I can’t find it on the GitHub page, will you make it available at some point? Also, how does it interface with the main MCU? I don’t see a header for the display cable; I would have thought you would link through that interface. Is it through the Bambu 4 pin bus? One mod I’d like to do is have an infrared heater on top, facing down on the part to keep the part warmer than 60C without having to convectively heat the whole chamber. Perhaps with reflective tape on the bits that shouldn’t get too hot. And with an I2C interface, an IR thermometer could be used as a control loop for the IR heater. How do/would you control the peripherals? I imagine some could be accessible via G-Code, but what about the neopixel animations?
I'd prefer if it would be a more elegant solution like a piggyback routed to the back of the device. I don't think many X1 owners would want to look at wires coming out of the front on a nice device like this. I would suggest making a wire harness that we could route through the cable tray along the top and make a standardized 3d printed enclosure that could be mounted somewhere in the back and maybe have some breakout boards that could be mounted in other areas that could need it. Great work on getting to v2 BTW and I hope my suggestion doesn't ruffle feathers I'm just giving feedback that I see could be a concern to people who like the clean aesthetic of the X1C.
Yeah, I agree. The cable routing for putting it on the back of the printer would be really annoying, though, and would probably involve drilling the printer chassis, which I really did not want to do. The top is a particularly useful location for some of the addons that are going to come along with it, too. But if you want to mount it to the rear left side of the device, you could easily design a case to do it with a little bit of dremeling, and there should be enough cable length to do that!
I think the round hygrometer within your AMS might need new batteries. those cheaper ones have always been a bit iffy in terms of reliability. Really excited for the user configurable GPIO by the way. Lots of opportunities for community engagement there.
Good question! Join the X1Plus Discord, maybe, as the best option? I am not all that great at, like, setting up broadcast communication, as you can tell :-) If you have suggestions for how you usually get more info about things like this, please let me know.
@@joshuawise Thanks, I never seem to find time for Discords (nor for actually making things like this myself 😂), but for anything involving code, there’s usually a GitHub page that describes the project and has the latest version of the code in it. Whatever the case, good luck on the project, it looks really awesome!
Not only is this cool as hell, your forum post was also recommended as the top suggested read on my Google search app, so you must be gaining traction somewhere somehow! Any idea what price point you'd be looking to sell these at if you went into production?
Whoah I have never #goneviral before. Thanks for letting me know! I think that there are a positive number of people who would buy this thing. So I think there is a good question around building and distributing it, and price point. I need to ask around about how people decide on that… the COGS of each one is not all that high but the direct cost of developing it is definitely getting up there, to say nothing of the time spent on it (and the entire X1Plus program) so far… I should ask, like, the 1b2 folks for suggestions. I still have no idea if the expected volume should be like tens or thousands.
That's grate upgrade and if available I. Will order it. It should place hidden in the back side, the functionality show already enough, off course other ideas will be grate, may be ams dryer function?

I'm not sure this development will be worth it. A 5G wifi instead of 2.4G would be enough for me. USB, I2C, GPIO - I have no idea why would I want them. Eth Iface is nice but why would I want it? For better video you need to replace the camera and the lens too. You can buy pro (+- 2%) Sensirion hum. sensor for $30 with builtin LCD and bluetooth connection, it works with 2032 battery for 2 yrs. USB2.0 ? You want to attach mouse, or keyboard or what? This is a random development for sake of development, but it makes no sense sorry.
I work for a massive multinational business with 3d print labs around the world. I know it seems odd, but connectivity in workplaces that value security in the convert space make it incredibly hard to work with devices that don’t have usb or Ethernet connection. This extension board with Ethernet alone make it worth the trouble for schools, universities, businesses that all lock down their network access methods.
@@zavierorel2853 You can generalize "ethernet", let's say "network", OK? And wifi is a network. Does this device need continuous high speed network connection? Not really, not for model downloading, that is only few seconds even with the 2.4GHz turtle wifi. Video stream would be worth ethernet, if the camera quality would be better. But this camera is a cr*p, so the improvement would be minimal in the video. Hard to work without USB ? What would you like to connect to this printer, could you name an example please? A mouse instead of touch-screen? You know simply you don't have to communicate with the printer, you send the model and it's doing the job. You can go to eat, or take a nap
@@zavierorel2853 Don't mistake me, I like this development, I like these guys, they are good. Just simply this development is not cheap not simple (I'm a developer too), and it gives no real advantages. I could be wrong.
@@jamesm3268 I meant: the few Bamboo pro ,( I think that was X1E, ) products that can run without internet access have ethernet, which I prefer. The Bamboo consumer products works as long their mother ship gets your data and can see what you do.
They've added a LAN mode in the production build. It won't have to rely on internet access and it you can set up your firewall to block external comms. Also, I think the X1Plus firmware may give you better control over it as well.
This post is pretty funny. It sort of seems like one of these internet truisms that the less somebody knows about something, the more confidently they post. I have always wondered why this is.
This is excellent. I could see chamber heaters plus monitoring of temps.
That’s a blast from the past, I haven’t thought of iPAQs in years and suddenly youtube recommends your video :)

So cool that you hooked up the humidity sensor. Definitely interested!

now THAT is an undeniably good reason to void your warranty

Is X1Plus going to be available for P1S printers at any stage ?
Maybe, the X1+ is still in early stages and they’re still working with the Bambu lab team to make this open source
One more idea add support for smart tags on the spools rollers for auto material sheeting for any materials and customized recipe
Thanks, looking really good. Will have to add one to my X1C.
