Why not name the calyptomyrmex queen "Golden duchess" since she has gold/yellowish special hair/bump. This name also sounds very noble and it suits are since she is a queen. I mean it would make more sense to call her a queen but duchess just sounds better In my opinion
Name The First One That Is Rare *Queen Elizabeth* Pleaseeee
Queen name : queen gold
Hey ac, I’m an expert on spiny ants! I have both golden and silver, they are semi claustral and I’d feed her both a combination of jelly and protein, but they don’t eat in their test tube as they are very clean, so you need to give her a small outworld to eat from! Good luck ac

I really want to see the Calyptomyrmex queen raise a colony, so we can learn more about them.
I think the blue ants are still the rarest ants he's ever found and I've see nothing on those ants except from him. I really want him to return to that house in that forest so we can atleast learn more about them and hopefully eventually keep a colony
@@jojobizarrelivingstone594 yes this too
I would be hype too but we just not know enough off them!
so very likely she dies in the trying to raise her as much i want them we should go for the saver bet
I want that as well.

My students came up with the following name suggestions. For the tiny ant queen, they suggested Fuzzy, Itsy Bitsy Ant, Quin, and the name Hope. For the Spiky Queen, they suggested Rosa (from Brooklyn 99), Shiny, Spikes and Sova. We loved your video!
For the Calyptomyrmex: Since they're also native to Africa, I think we should name her after Queen Amina of Zazzau (now Zaria) in Nigeria. She was known as a warrior queen, she was the first to become queen in a male-dominated society, leading an army of 20K men expanding the borders of the Hausa. This queen ant will be leading female workers, but the name is too neat to pass up.
For the spiny silver ant: I chose Silvia. A nod to the fact that she's silver, but also her name in Latin means forest. For the "forest" that she will rule over in the terrarium
Silvia is so brilliant! Simple yet it works double. ♡
No name her dafniy
That a great name I was going to name her queen calypso
the one in ck3?
@@amygacha6369 great name! I think he should name her calypso too! She just gives me those vibes
HONEY🍯would be a cute name for the first ant, her back looks like globs of Honey and they remind me of the colour of honey!!
I also definitely think you should keep her by the way! You said there isn't much footage on them and you could be the one to document that! It would be so cool to see!
Usually the more active the queen is (especially if she ventures out of her founding test tube, to explore the smells of sugar/honey/jelly, if you make an opening into something like the AC Test Tube Portal or even just a second test-tube), the better she and her nanitics will do with regular small feedings. The only potential issue would be if she eats a *lot* of carbs, but doesn't accept any of the protein you offer, although even this situation still has a *much* heigher chance of her successfully establishing a healthy, growing colony.
Another thing to keep in mind is that at higher temperatures (especially in humid heat, like South-Eastern Asia commonly has) the queen's metabolic rate is much higher as well, which means her energy reserves won't be able to last nearly as long.
Finally, since volumetric capacity scales proportional to length cubed (R³), I would always feed small queens (even if they supposedly don't need it, since the fact that enough can survive the colony founding process to keep the species going, doesn't necessarily mean that they won't have an increased success rate if clean food and water is freely available; Assuming that you, obviously, also clean up after her and don't just leave the food that she didn't eat, together with her feces, in her setup for more than 2-3 days...) at least some sweet jelly or honey every couple of days, starting on the day that I caught her.
Ok… thanks for the info
bumping this, great info!!! c:
This is super interesting and sounds like great info! Thank you! I hope Mikey sees it.
@@gavincombs9139 He wasn't telling you lmao
You should definitely keep the first queen, since it's a rarely documented species and keeping her will definitely provide great research for scientists. As for her name, maybe name her Bumpy due to the bumps on her exoskeleton plus it's a cute name for a cute ant as well
I was going to suggest Ms. Bumpy for the same reasons, the bumps all over her body!
Bumpy is the name of one of the ankylosaurs in camp Cretaceous, so that would be a fun reference.
@@TheSpeculativeDoodl yup!
For some reason sprinkles came to my mind when I seen her
She looks just like my newt! Well, shaped like an ant. He's super bumpy!
And I love the name. Queen Bumpy... Hehe. Cute! I love it! ╭ ͡₍❤︎₎͡ ╮
Oh I'm so happy you got yourself a farm! You absolutely deserve a peaceful home to thrive in and help educate everyone about ants and the life cycle!
Definitely the first queen is so beautiful. You should keep her for sure. Also love the silver queen. It would be awesome to have both gold and silver. Can't wait to see what kind of Queens you discover next, this time of year is so exciting. Ant love forever! 🐜🐜❤✌🇨🇦
she is so cute
I will fight to secure a permanent home for this lovely queen in Our Ac Family. 🐜💖♾

Regarding the Calyptomyrmex queen, I actually had a classmate who had one they kept in a jar with holes in it. (Yah know, cause we were little kids and stupid) they would put bugs they found inside the jar and they'd eat them up. They were definitely not happy with their home, but they were alive.
Someone such as you would definitely be able to make them stay alive AND happy.
Ah yes, like Pokémon...it's all fun and games until you hear a certain Champion's piano music. And if you're not prepared to counter her Garchomp...it's game over. Just talking about gives me flashbacks
I found a new ant colony in my backyard while doing some gardening yesterday. Just the common little brown ants found all over southern Ontario, but in a part of my garden that's never had ants actively living there. I love seeing ants doing their thing in the wild.
Both of your reddish carpenter ant queens are of the subgenus Tanaemyrmex, a common one throughout southeast Asia. But this subgenus holds a few exceptional species that do not spin cocoons! The most infamous one being the species Camponotus maculatus subnudus, which your new red queen is of. The other one is also not of the genus Colobopsis, it might be a dark colour variant of this species or a related species 💁🏻♂️ Edit: Colobopsis also have very long thin eggs. Your queens have rather round eggs.
For the Calyptomyrmex (my absolute fav - you should keep her!): since she is tiny and likes to cover in the dirt that she dig... you can name her "Dís" - from Tolkien character.
For the Silver Spiny ant queen: you can name her "Mercuria" after the latin for quicksilver.
For the Colobopsis: maybe "Amber" or "Ambrosia"
For the silver Queen, I suggest something along the lines of Lady Mithril, after the fictional silvery metal from the Lord of the Rings. In other fantasy settings, the material is known as true silver and is always well regarded for its strength and lightness. I also think it just sound super cool. The Mithril Empress or Queen Mithril could also work.
how come Queen ant's don't balloon up like termites .ants have all the sperm they'll need for billions of ants over 20 years
It should be Moria like the mines where Mitchell is mined at, or a play between the two
I _LOVE_ this idea! Lady Mithril! ...And for the nest/colony, the Mines of Moria is cool, but I always liked the name Helm's Deep. But isn't mithril an elven creation? I'm not super into the lore, but maybe an Elven city would work if so, and if there's one with a good name (cos Elvish isn't always erm nice-sounding).
LOTR fans, please don't roast me. _Friend!_ I love LOTR, but I've got a bad memory, especially about fiction lore. And input on this would of course be appreciated. Cheers!
@@romanovfish5569 I think that’d be a good name for the colony, like the Morian Miners
@@romanovfish5569 or the Kingdom of Khazad-dûm after the bridge where Gandalf fought the Balrog
I think we should name the Calyptomyrmex queen Otrera after the first queen of the Amazons, an ancient race of warrior women because she will hopefully give birth to a legion of female worker ants! Also, because I believe, (correct me if I’m wrong) that this is the first queen of these species that AntsCanada has kept on this channel! Which would be perfect if the queen was named after the first queen of the Amazons!! 🐜🐜🐜
The Calyptomyrmex queen is seriously adorable! Probably the cutest ant I've ever seen!

@Hitano uh
I'd love to see you raise an ant colony in a Klein bottle, or at least use one as an outworld for one of them; their reaction will probably be either funny, interesting, or a mix of both.
It’s summer in my country and it’s easy to see ant queens (winged and wingless) crawling in numerous places it’s usually black ants and their really nice to keep
how come termites don't die off after mating
Termites need a king to raise the colony and provide sperm so the queen can make more eggs
4.5 Mil let’s gooooo! Great job Mikey!
Edit: I believe that all of the ant species would be great new additions. If only the new Marauder Ant queen had survived! I was SO sad when the Titans died two years ago, they were my favorite!
Your passion is absolutely incredible. I have never cared about ants particularly but your passion is contagious and inspirational. The level of detail and attention you give to something a few may not find as interesting is something everyone should strive for. Whether its ants or hobbies of other sorts, it is people like you who bring joy into this world and remind us all to be passionate in what you love and give something your all if you're going to do it at all.
Cartoons
Red cabinets they're super duper rare
You must keep the rare one because it's to be a good learning experience and Ant cassette some scientific discoveries. I also think you should silver ants because I think they should be called the Titanium Warriors!
10:12 The last queen looks very similar to some of the Wood Ants you'd expect to see further north; despite the fact that no ants of the Formica genus are native to the Philippines, I think there could be a chance it could be Formica Truncorum just based on looks from this video.
Side note, checking with antmap and antwiki none of the ants native to the Philippines and in Colobopsis genus have queens that look like that.
Never even thought about ants for more than a few moments before, why can't I stop watching these videos? Neato!
I’d love to see the calyptomyrmex ant queen grow and establish a colony, and also since she’s so rare I think it would be amazing to see all the bumps in the road in the colony growing
HA! I GET IT! \0/
Seriously, though, what a cool species! I'm so excited for this! PLUS... She looks just like my newt! He's covered in tiny bumps, and they even look like a bit pointy... It's amazing! She looks like an ant version of him! (And not much smaller, lol.) Well, until the further zoom-in revealed the "bumps" are little clusters of hairs, which make me think of the famous purple polar bear, Pelusa (said like _peh'LOOsah,_ it's Spanish for fur, fluff, etc.) and that could be a cool name. Or Pelusita, which is like a "little fluff" [the suffix is affectionate] & usually means like a little dust bunny or those fuzzy bits that form on fleece & knit clothing. It'd be cute for a nice little ant.
I'd say "name her after my newt", but Noot-noot would be a weird name for an ant, haha. I just kinda named him fast and it's all I could think of as I paced around, holding this very poisonous and very injured animal (a storm literally threw him onto the cement patio, and I almost didn't see him, pale and twisted, in a torpor) and wondering what I could do, if I could do anything... and [of course] just repeating "heyyy little newt, u OK? You'll be OK, little newt!" So the "newt" sound stuck. And it took time, but he _is_ OK, and just about ready to be released back into the wild! ...And I know we're meant to be talking about ants. I just love nature. And I already love this queen!
Maybe she or her colony could be named for Braille or Morse Code... Dots & Dashes, or even like those cacti with the tiny spines, she could be Queen Prickly-Pear and [her workers] the Bumpies. Or Bumpy Beans. Idk, maybe go spoo⁰°⁰ky with a "bump in the night" theme..? I'm just throwing out ideas. 😅
Ant [and newt!] love forever! ╭ ͡₍❤︎₎͡ ╮
Good one your coment is really good 😁😀👍
You should name the Calomyrmex queen “Strawberry” because her little hairs look like the seeds on a strawberry :3 🍓🐜💞
Edit: omg and when she wears soil she could look like a chocolate covered strawberry!!
Shortcake would be cute 🎂
that's what I thought too!
LOVE THIS!!
Yeah good idea, nice name for her :)
I See you Love strawberries
I'd call your 1st ant Echidna after the spiny Australian mammals that lay eggs. It's also a name that's been gaining popularity in recent culture for regal characters.
And as a bonus, the Greek monster Echinda was mother to Medusa, making it fit with the dirt/stone coating for the ant
Since I started watching you this year, I have now caught 7 queens. I went from having a serious phobia of carpenter ants to having a serious fascination with them! Thank you for educating us on how wonderful and fun ants can be.
My favorite queen of this batch had to be the Calyptomermyx spp. Shes so cute! How about naming her Calypso as a nod to her genus?
I was going to get a ac habitat but it was too expensive
I'm all for keeping all three living queen ants, and I hope that you find another marauder queen ant as well too.
That would be cool
KEEP THE CALYPTOMRYMEX QUEEN PLEASE!!!! SHE IS ADORABLE AND ALSO RARE!!! (Edit: I hope you keep the silver spiny ant Queen as well. I wanna see you rase all the colors of spiny ants! Its interesting how they are bronze, gold, and silver and most likely more i didnt list. P.S. Im one of your newest viewers :) )
Hi AC love the content and I caught two queens last week and their both laying eggs thanks for the amazing UA-cam videos and keep doing what your doing
I would love to see a colony from the calyptomyrmex queen!
Wow! These ant queens are awesome! I think it would be really cool to see a Calytomyrmex Queen raise a colony, especially since they are so rare!! I think a cool name would be Calypso/Kalypso after a Greek goddess since she IS a queen. Very cool video, it’s been a while since I’ve watched any of your videos. I’ve created a new YT account so I will be watching them more often again! This was a great video to see coming back!
I just got my first queen ant (fire). Funnily, there where 3, but the others escaped. She also lost her wings! Looking forward to summers end for my colony to bloom!
The first tiny one could be interesting. Imagine how tiny the workers would be!. As for the Marauder Ant, I strangely respect the Worms on this one. They keep getting fed to ants, they just want the satisfaction of turning it around at least once.
Lol
Was curious if AntsCanada ended up keeping the Calyptomyrmex to make a colony, would be really neat
I have rare parasitic pheidole that's black in colour living among the pheidole parva. Extremely low in numbers they are and they don't often come out.
Stunning video as always i have a recommendation of naming the #2 queen ant "silveria"
HA! I live in Norway and I love when you say «this is a very small ant» OUR QUEEN ANTS IS NOT EVEN HALF AS BIG AS YOURS!!🤣
I would love to see the first queen having a successful colony.
Now I think of myself as a research partner for antscanada
"Can you guess what type of ant she is?"
Me who knows nothing about ants: uhm- *Ant*
Oh wow! They are so cute! Hopefully they all grow and have nice and helpful workers!
I wanted to take a moment to say: THANK YOU! We recently had some sugar ants move into our home and after deterring them about they found their way into our infant son's room. Thanks to the information I learned from your channel (Teflon barriers etc) I was able to effectively and quickly redirect their efforts and ensure the safety of our son in the future. Sincerely, thank you for all your efforts
The first Queen could be "Hairy Susan" second can be"Silver" and the forth one can be "Mangroove".
#1 is my favorite by far! Can’t wait to see the epic unique enclosure you build for your rarest ant yet! 🐜🧡
The first queen's name would be soil bumps and the second queen's name would be silver and the third queen's name would be red fire.
As fun as it is to catch Pokémon, Gym battles are also important so I hope Antopia Park will have a gym as well with you as its leader handing people ant-shaped badges if they win
I like how you're telling a Supreme Leader to bow...the only ones that should be bowing is all of you to me!
Hi
Hello comrade
tf is Kim Jong doing here 💀
Although I don't have a name idea for the silver spiny ant queen, I do have a name suggestion regarding the full name of the colony. We should call them "The Silver Knights". Opinions?
Where I live, it storms a lot at night. If I’m lucky, I can wake up early and went outside. I once found a HUGE carpenter ant queen that still had her wings. She was really weak, and I didn’t want to stress her out anymore, and wanted to let her dry, because she was just in my pool. Her mandibles were really shiny, and so was she. I wish I could find queen ants more often. She was my first! :D
We need another ant movie. It's been 16 years since the last one! 🐜 🐜 🐜
That's one of the coolest looking ants I have ever seen wow

Thank You AntsCanada For Taking Care Of Our Ant Colony Before
Can we name the new rare ant Golden Queen? Idk I just think it fits her because she looks yellow-ish
Hi!!!! I absolutely love your channel and I want to start ant keeping myself. I find ants to be so beautiful and interesting to watch. I really hope you keep the Calyptomyrmex queen and I think you should name her ✨Queen Appa✨ because she reminds me of Appa 🐜🐜🐜
while i cannot disagree that she does remind me of Appa, Appa was a Guy Bison
Fair point, but it would be so cuteeee 😊
With the Calyptomyrmex, i thought she could be called Cleopatra? That was the name of an ancient Egyption pharaoh.
My initial thoughts about the species you are unsure of, would be to forgo the test tube phase and place them in a container with elements like they would normally start a colony in. The one you said normally covers themselves in soil and live under logs and such. Now you can't really transport a log into one of your initial setups, but you can make it resemble nature as close as possible with soil, twigs, bits of wood. I think that would be the best bet. As for the two needing to forage or not, no harm in introducing a bit of natural food source and see if they either eat or not, the food isn't going to harm them as they'll just ignore it if they fast. I believe getting them to start a colony takes priority over being able to have a clear view of them.
Also if you are collecting queens, my suggestion is any you decide to release, release them near your new home to bolster the number of natives.
I think "Calypso" would be a great name for the calyptomyrmex queen. It is Greek for "she who conceals", and the name of a nymph from the Odyssey.
Oh my creator of worlds I just realized that he compared ants and Pokémon and later said he wants both gold and silver spiny ants Ho-oh and Lugia
I just caught my first queen this year. Its a Tetramorium sp. and has just laid her first eggs :D
Congrats!
Congrats!
Your videos really make my day with your enthusiasm and facts, love it!
Thanks for watching! #AntLoveForever
@@AntsCanada bro how are you the only reply
Calyptomyrmex will need soil founding, Polyrhachis is semi claustral I feed founding queens honey/sugar water once a week, CD will do best in soil setup while founding.
Calyptomyrmex = Queen Plushy, the colony of the Teddy Bears
Spiny ant= Queen Silvia, the colony of the Silver Spears
I think the first queen should be named: Queen of the Empyreans
Because this queen ant looks absolutely *heavenly!* What do you think?
I'm sure it was only a few months ago that Northern Hemisphere nuptials began last time. The years are flying by... like ants! 🐜🖤
Yes put soil in the closer you might want to keep it if you could keep it you can make a big Carly
Living in Australia and hearing about the first ant being rare I can’t wait for the rainy season to try catching this cute little ant and it’s currently winter so I’m hoping to get my things set up to restart an ant colony I’ll follow the videos and one day hope the ac family can help give me a kingdom name for my new colony. Hope everyone has a great day/night :)
i think we should name the first queen gaia who is the greek godess of earth and mother of all life so because she is a queen she will mother a whole colony
What if she dies. Noone wants to be the one who let mother earth die
6:30 I do believe this species is Polyrhachis Illaudata very similar to the dives but much larger they can be polygynous but only with their own sisters from the same colony not from other colony's, it took almost two months to get mine started, but it looks like you got most of the basics covered, just make sure one part of the tube is near a heat source and she should do fine.
I think th second ant colony should be called the "iron cross". A reference to a medel given to brave soldiers for their bravery
Or the Kaisers so it can be more German because who doesn’t like that
Yeah, your right
Imagine being able to have Sahara Silver ants? What are you thoughts on the fastest ants in the world?
Definetely keep the Calyptomyrmex queen. Name suggestions: Queen Star, Empress Moon, Mistress Zelda. Yeah she is my favorite. The silver one would be cool to keep too though. Love your vids and thank you for all the effort you put in for us. Ant love forever ❤️💖
Definitely should keep at least the first 2 queens! Especially with the first being rare and the second being one you've wanted to keep
Now I want a turtle ant queen because you showed us how cute they are in your number 10 most favorite ant queens
Also, I caught a queen pavement ant for myself, it’s been a year since I started watching the channel and ever since then I wanted a colony. When I found the queen, i was screaming around the house setting up my test tube setup as quickly as possible! Lol🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜
Maybe you could name the queen pangolin because that’s what she reminds me of! (Pangolins are also known for covering themselves in mud:)
Sorry I forgot so specify what queen I meant. I was meaning the hairy ones 😅
You will not believe this. I was fishing today, and around 8 am (eastern US standard time) I saw what looked to be a red carpenter ant queen walk under my brother’s chair.
The rare queen kinda resembles a teddy bear with the bumps, maybe call her Winnie as a nickname
Good idea I like
Cute name!
If you decide to keep the last one, I feel like "Maple" would be nice to incorporate in the colony name, since she's more yellow than red in my opinion.
😱🤗👍🎉🎊 I'm happy for you , Now i think 🤔 the first 🐜🐜 ant should go by the name Gilda and second ant should go by Silvia. All the best 😀👍👍👍
Being as the first ant is somehow dirt/rock related I feel like a name with terra or Montana( which came from Spanish for mountains) should be a fitting choice or even a Greek or Roman god with an agricultural or boulder like background would fit well. Athos, Promeseus, MountAnt for a punny feel, or just Terra would work. If anyone knows any other deities with a rock based background please comment it as a deity ant queen would be kinda cool
can we call our rare calyptomyrmex ant Calippo like the ice block in Australia? here are 3 reasons why.
These ants can be found in Australia
The name sounds kinda similar
I'm Australian so why not have an ant that can be found here named after a famous icon here?
thank you and i hope my name gets picked!
The sadly deceased queen who fell into the superworms should be returned to her home colony where she will provide nourishment to the colony from which she came.
I think it's interesting how some species will accept new queens in while others would treat even their own daughters as prey/threats.
For the queens that you will not keep, you can put them in antopia to help the local ants against invasive team!
True! Hope they will grow in the lowlands though. Antopia is not in the mountains where these queens were caught. Weather is slightly cooler here.
That’s a good idea

Name the rare queen Raine! I hope she does well and no mites with the queens hopefully
Praying for all the queens may the queen who died rest in ant heaven ant love forever!
Call her fuzzy, I feel it is a good name for her
Love the Calypto!!! I think she really looks beautiful, probably more than other species. Excited to see what’s her future!
I haven’t caught any Queen since I don’t know where to look but I did caught two awesome princesses inside my house. Any idea where I should release them??? I’m open to suggestions!
You should definatly raise the rare ant queen if its successful, we could learn so much about the species and see there natural behaviour . And if you do keep her , definatly name her bumpy buddy
Asian Marauder Ant caught me off guard 💀 literally the type of insect my mom says I can handle! Imagine if she still had her wings, she'd be the nightmare of all insects 💀👑🐜
Name the queen phalanx because those hairs reminded me of those spears commonly use in phalanc tactics in the medieval era :)
