my grandfather grew up in a small village in Peru and once told me a story about them having to evacuate their village because a massive army of ants was coming through. he had a collection of dead butterflies posted on his wall and when he returned they had all ben eaten.
Yeah, I watched a documentary on Army Ants. They've been known to eat small pets and even killed a baby. They are seriously amazing to see and best to stay clear of.
Holy feak

I love the look of those silver queens. I’ve seen shiny ants before but never in a precious metal color. They literally look like they’re made out of platinum!
#3 Ant Queen: Takes some fungus spore with her to plant in her nest.

As a fellow fungus fanatic, I have to say that the leaf cutters are always going to be my favourite. The size difference between the queen and the workers is so ridiculous, it's funny.
On fathers day it would be cool to see a video like this for the most beautiful male ants, they deserve a little love too
Yea
Maybe on childrens day about works lol

Id rather have an actual vid instead next week
unfortunately male ants don't live long enough to celebrate Father's day.
I can see why these made your top 20 list
... Now to play the game of "Let's collect them all for the new Ant Room!" ... when it is finished being constructed and ready for occupants.
Personally, I quite enjoy watching a single queen give rise to a whole colony more than seeing an already established colony, but that's just me. Still thoroughly enjoying all your channel has to offer ❤

The other day I was at my friends house and stepped in a ant hill, at first I thought It was just fire ants doing regular stuff to fix their nest, but then I saw them moving Larvae, And then I saw the QUEEN. Well, I think it was the queen It ran out so fast I had no clue what happened. It was so large it looked like a wingless, bright orange/reddish wasp. This was an experience I will never forget.

I have to agree with your selection and the order in which you present them.
Simply beautiful.
If I'd found this channel before I found a queen ant a few years ago, I might have a huge colony by now. I've always been a fan of insect watching, and I immediately knew that the beautiful creature I laid my eyes upon was no common wasp or hornet. She had wings and a rather plump belly. Found out later it was specifically a Pavement Ant, one of the native species to Virginia.
You all may be happy to know, though, I did watch her for a while and she ended up crawling in a hole on a wall near one of my outside ponds, and not too long after I saw streams of little ants hurrying to and fro that very hole. I consider myself lucky to catch one of those rare glimpses of a queen outside of her nest.
For those queens who are not in the top chart don't be disappointed. It's just a personal waifus list from a nice geek lover ants. You are all beautiful, loved and cared by your many childrens. That's the most important thing.
Is not one of those jobs
I have to agree, Lasius Neoniger queens are lovely to watch and look at. They're my first ant colony and I just love watching them zip around and dig. When I introduced the queen to her new nest, she just started digging right away. So cool!
I just remember when I first saw a Trap -jaw ant then snap its jaw in the ground and set it flying backwards. In the Philippines I only saw 4 kinds of ants and I want to see more. Thanks for the video AntsCanadam, I always watch your videos.
i just caught a carpenter queen yesterday! she is currently in a test tube setup & she already has one egg I'm so excited this is my first time ant keeping
I'm actually having a great time caring for my formica subciricira queen the colony already has 20 workers
Wish you luck on the ants

Basically these queen ants are pretty cool and I respect that.
Also I wish y'all a good Saturday.
my favourite queen ant is defiantly the beautiful Fire ant queen because they grow so fast.
love ur vids
One of the main reasons why I like queen ants is because of the different head shapes and my favorite head shapes comes from the camponotus genius
Of course the bullet ant is on the list, not an ant list without them!
So a National Geographic article about bull ants got you interested in keeping ants? Well we must thank National Geographic for eventually leading to the creation of a legendary channel. And goes to show you how crazy of a continent Australia is when it comes to its creatures. I do hope you find a queen Polyrhachis cyaniventris, they look so beautiful
I personally think that the ant queens deserve their own special day on this channel,
Yeah
Indeed
yeah

The harpegnathor venator is definitely my favorite
I love almost every Campo ant, the nests are extremely cool being made of wood pant debris and twigs, also since their common out of town, I found a queen just as it settled into its new nest, by far my favorite ant queen too for her large body and full black coat.
Imagine how much cards you get on Mother’s Day as a queen ant

I really agree with your choice of weaver ants with their green bodies with brown veins on their wings.
I was just looking for how big is a bullet ant but stayed cause it became so educational and fun to watch.
Pogonomyrmex are not just found in the American Southwest, they're found from California to Argentina. And that includes the Caribbean island of Hispaniola. So that genus is pretty widespread
And Pseudomyrmex gracilis are not just found in Mexico and the US. Just like Pogonomyrmex, they too can be found from California (though not native to CA) to Argentina. I know a lot about every creature in existence

Today in school i might have found a queen ant. She was bigger than normal ants, looked similar to one of the species you showed in the video and was just wandering around.
What an amazing "different" video!!
I saw Ant Queen #14, and immediately thought of the pokemon Lotad. Now I know what inspired that particular pokemon!
I agree very much.

Very proud of myself for recognizing the weaver ants before AntsCanada said their name

Congrats Mikey on your Today Show appearance. That was so cool!!!

I was unaware that weavers had so many vibrant colors! It’s amazing!! I’m still on the lookout for carpenter ants but I’ve been able to find a Myrmica Rubra queen that laid some brood and I purchased a beautiful Lasius Spp. from a nice young man who is part of the GAN project! Eugh!! They look like Wormy from Spongebob however!!
I absolutely love Leafcutters. They're definitely my favorites.
There's actually gonna be a rainstorm here in texas soon, so in a few days i plan to go looking after the rainstorm ends and hopefully find one for my new ant colony! always wanted to start one since 2 years ago, but I just now bought the AC starter kit, and other equipment to hopefully start.
even if I don't, there's still plenty of nuptial flights to be held next month!
Awesome! I'm excited for you! Trxas has SOOO many amazing ants including Leafcutters (Atta texana)! Good luck!
@@AntsCanada Sorry if i'm a bother, but I have another question, after studying, my closet has no air conditioning but the room outside it does. does this work or do I have to look somewhere else to locate the test tube setup?
also, if a rain storm takes place say around, 3-5 am, and stops before it reaches 7-8 am, would it still have higher chances for a nuptial flight later that day? asking because the weather forecast shows something simillar to that happening, and I wanna see if I have to set any alarms.
@@AntsCanada hey is there is A chance to get a leaf cutter queen in the end of June now?

I literally screamed with excitement when weaver ants were on the list. Let alone as first!
When I visited Angel Falls the trip involved sleeping in hammocks in the jungle. The indigenous guides were concerned because they found a bullet ant nest just outside of the sleeping area. I was more afraid of the giant spider some of the other guests had seen nearby.
I’m glad weaver ants were number 1! I was getting nervous they weren’t gonna be on the list!

The ants on your list are amazing but my favorite ants are Crematogaster. They are ecologically diverse genus of ants found worldwide, which are characterised by a distinctive heart-shaped gaster, which gives them one of their common names, the Saint Valentine ant.
