Why didn't I get this kind of discipline when I went to basic for the army in Ft. Benning? You guys don't play around man...much respect (Army Veteran) Basic Training Summer of 2006 D Company 3/47 Infantry
Marines are more intense for a reason. They are there to gain ground and nothing else (no disrespect here. Best people I know are grunts). In order to do that, they have to be borderline intense motherfuckers, hence the stupid crazy training.
I am a soldier and I went to basic at FT Knox, I have so much respect for the marines. I wish the army would put just as much effort into drilling discipline and tradition as the marines do.
I appreciate the fact that you were in the army. I also appreciate the fact you understand the discipline that is instilled in Marines and drill is mostly used to do that. I'm a Marine. I served from 1989 to 1995. So I guess I could say I'm old Corps. For all of those who want to talk shit about Marine Corps drill and how you think it means nothing let me explain something to you. Discipline is a major part of every military branch the Marine Corps uses drill to instill discipline and teamwork discipline by military definition is instant obedience to orders. Everything is geared toward the possibility that you go to combat if you are told to do something or move right then and there and you don't people can lose lives when you drill and you're giving the order right face you don't think about it you just do it when they say right shoulder arms or inspection arms or about face you don't think about it you do it it's second nature that is the purpose so all of you people who are talking trash evidently you've never served or you didn't really take in the training that was offered to you because you wouldn't say that bullshit that you're saying you don't have to respect the person who served in the military but you need to respect the military because we have kept the wolves away from the door for over 240 odd years and we protect and fight to the death you're right to say and do the stupid things that you say and do
