    I'm a 35m and this last weekend I had bleeding in the vitreous for a couple of hours after a SNEEZE. I went to the ER, then to an optometrist who immediately sent me to a retinal specialist in Fort Smith, AR.
    He declared it a small detachment of the vitreous leading to a hemorrhage and to give it time.
    I drive for a living because migraines keep me out of a job. My wife is disabled and my kids are too young to work. After watching this video, I am going to take my 2 weeks to seriously consider the treatment options if there is no change in my vision.
    This video is EXACTLY right in how I now see in my right eye.

    If the floater is really bad, you will never get used to it. Have been struggling since it first appeared for 12 years. Every single day. And as it gets worse, I struggle more. For me vitrectomy is just a matter of time.

Coincidentally, both my husband and l have each had two, one per each eye, and today the techniques are so advanced that there's no reason to be afraid, depending on the reason (my husband had two spontaneous retinal detachments which made the vitrectomies a necessity). A cataract will almost inevitably develop afterwards, but that's highly treatable. As l said, you will not regret it.

      If floaters are truly bothersome, some vitreoretinal surgeons choose to perform a vitrectomy for the same. Please consult your Vitreoretinal surgeon and express your concerns and explore the possibility of an elective vitrectomy. Hope this helps.

    Excellent video! I’m a 33 year old myopic male and had a partial PVD after a course of oral ciprofloxacin (which wasn’t a listed side effect) with terrible new onset floaters. In all my years working as an internist I was shocked to learn how toxic systemic fluoroquinolones were to the eye and I believe the incidence is vastly underreported for this class owing to their collagen degradation effects elsewhere in the body and since few systemic drugs can penetrate into the vitreous.

      Tetracyclines line doxy are not known to cause collagen degeneration. Actually, doxy has been observed in small studies to exhibit MMP downregulation which promotes collagen growth rather than degeneration. Likely coincidental in your case imo. Hope you get better soon! I had a huge improvement in my floaters with low dose 0.05-0.01% atropine eye drops as needed. They usually improve my floaters 50%+@@kathyroche4952

    Awesome explanation. Now, when the vitreous detaches and contracts, how much can it contract? Wouldn't this process jeopardize the eye structure per ce?

    • @EyeloguesbyDoctorEyeInstitute

      Good question! Yes, it can contract but it depends from person to person as to how that may affect the eye. Had my first (right eye) PVD with a retinal tear at 57 years old. That came with a lot of black spots (blood). The tear had to be welded with a laser to prevent a retinal detachment. The floaters took a couple of months to subside. Left eye followed 7 years later but didn’t cause a tear. The floater was a little bit annoying for a week then I got used to it.

It sounds difficult, but other options available are medications which can be prescribed to you but an ophthalmologist. Thank you for your video. So helpful and I just subscribed. I was diagnosed with vitreous detachment a few days ago and it seemed odd to me that my doctor did not recommend anything for me to actively do about it, so your saying that the best option is no treatment is reassuring. I do 1/2 hour a day of low impact cardio exercise - is it okay to continue that?

    I actually had no pvd only a right eye otic nerve edema they told me at the Eye ER hospital.But after I scheduled at the Retina specialist (wrong Dr I went to they told me it was suppose to be nueroopthamology not a retina specialist)They diagnosed me with this PVD condition.They had me look into very modern looking retina scanner device and it would scan my eyes in different colors.I would see blue light then red light.Is red light normal with retinal scanners?And that's when the Dr said I had 1 floater and pvd of right eye?Does these modern retina scanners cause PVD?and if I had a floater in the ER why didn't they tell me I had pvd as well?Did the new modern Retinal scanner do me harm or no ?Great videos.

      Thank you for commenting on our video. We are glad that you liked our content. Modern retina scanners are non invasive and red lights in scanners are normal. They are just lights to allow and help us to focus at the right spot so as to capture the correct image of the retina. Retinal scanner are not known to cause PVD.

      Yes you can fly to high altitude areas, in case you notice floaters or increase in number of floaters you can let your eye doctor know and they will guide you. Although cases of high altitude travel causing PVD to worsen are few. Activities like bungee jumping or skydiving for that matter can increase PVD symptoms

      Yes there are 4 stages, stage 0 where there is no PVD, stage 1: Partial separation from macula but attached at fovea, stage 2: partial separation from fovea, stage 3: detached from macula but still attached to optic nerve, stage 4: complete PVD.

    I am a 61 y.o. male and recently woke up with a few more, large floaters, a few that looked like spiders or cob webs, a white light that showed up in my periphery when I turned my head (or when I bounded while stepping in a dark room) - all in one eye. I went to the eye doctor and they saw no retinal tears but did see that I had a Positive Shafer's sign meaning pigmentation. They brought in another doctor for a second look and he confirmed -- no tear in the retina but pigmentation meaning positive Shafer's sign. I have to go back in a month to get checked again to see if it tore. I am also ready to go to the hospital if I have a detachment but hopefully that won't happen. I don't know the meaning of the positive Shafer's sign given I have no tear. Does it mean I will definitely have a tear or could this episode of PVD heal and the pigmentation clear up?

    • @EyeloguesbyDoctorEyeInstitute
      @EyeloguesbyDoctorEyeInstitute  2 місяці тому

      Scars due to a CNVM are common and unfortunately cannot be eliminated completely. It is a sequel of healing of the retina from the leakage of blood vessels and after resolution of retinal swelling. If the scar develops swelling at the edges we can treat the swelling with intravitreal injections

    Hi I have the lightning flashes only when I am very tired. Sometimes it's not a flash but is a dark patch, a sort of anti-flash of darkness for a millisecond. Seems to only be when I'm tired.
    I went to get my eyes checked and they came back as fine. No issues, everything looks healthy but these flashes continue.
    I work with high powered led lights, do you think my eyes could be getting over stimulated or dried out by the led lights?
    As I type, I feel quite dehydrated, could this cause symptoms to be worse?

    • @EyeloguesbyDoctorEyeInstitute
      @EyeloguesbyDoctorEyeInstitute  Рік тому

      Thanking for commenting on our video. A regular retina exam, every 6 monthly is recommended for anyone who experience flashes of light.
      If you have been cleared of all doubts of retinal weakness by a retina specialist then just repeat same tests after 6 months to be safe.
      As far as lights hurting your eyes is concerned, it can cause strain and dryness. Make sure you use lubricant drops for the same. They are usually prescribed by licensed ophthalmologists. Thank you for your comment.

    Hi. It has been 2 days and I have just started noticing eye flashes. Now they are not like a lightning flash as you mention in the video but a very very tiny peck of light in my peripheral vision in the right eye (as if there is a surface reflecting light on my eye). It's there for less than a second then it goes away. No other symptoms. Plus I have 20/20 vision. Also because of my job, I am mostly in front of my laptop screen. So could screen time fatigue also cause these symptoms - like an eye flash or any new floaters ? because my screen time has increased quite a lot in the last few months, and I am trying to cut it down as much as possible.

    Just has PVD diagnosed late night as I went to eye hospital as I was concerned !! The DR examined my eye and said no retinal tear
    or detachment thankfully but that it was PVD. However what I was wondering is it normal, so to speak, with PVD for my eye vision to be so blurred??

      Yes, it appears as if a curtain has come in front of your eye and that curtain is moving around so that temporarily blurs your vision. If there is no retinal tear and peripheral of retina is normal as declared by Retina Specialist then there is no need to worry.

      @Wanderlust Vlog
      Yes, going to the gym and lifting heavy weights can weaken your retina. If there are Pre-existing weak spots you need a dilated retina checkup in order to know if its safe for you to gym!!
