    Hello Doctor. My PVD started almost three years ago in my left eye (had retinal detachment in my right in 2013). I’m 51 and I have lattice degeneration. When my PVD started I was checked regularly. Now I see my optometrist once a year and ophthalmologist once a year, so my eyes are fully checked twice a year. Everything has continued to be fine when examined. I’m confused though because while my symptoms have never gotten worse, they’ve never gotten better - flashes in periphery, floaters, and rarely some “fluttering.” None of this bothers me in practical terms, but that the symptoms still exist three years later confuses me. None of my doctors have ever mentioned partial PVD, just PVD. I guess I’m wondering… am I still as much at risk of a tear/detachment as I was during the first 2-3 months? How much have the odds decreased, if any, that my PVD will cause problems. Is there any way to know how long this will go on for? Thank you in advance for any response.

      Good question, it can vary, but it is more common as we get older, so 50-60+.

    Hi Dr. thank you for your video in explaining PVD. I had some floaters a week ago in one eye and been diagnosed with "Partial" PVD in both eyes using a OCT Scan. I need advice on care of "Partial" vs normal PVD. I read on the RNIB web site that should avoid exercise for 6 weeks. Is that the same for "Partial" PVD? I would like to know if I can I still do Running, Swimming, Push ups, using Gym weight machines, Punching a punch bag..etc? Anything to avoid and for how long if "Partial" PVD? Thanks

    • @dreyeforyou
      @dreyeforyou  Рік тому +1

      @ C B, this is a very good question. The reality is that once a PVD has initiated exactly when it will become complete is hard to predict. It typically happens within a quoted 6-8 week period of starting.
      I warn patients about what symptoms to look out for during this period (which could indicate that there is a further problem) but I don't tell them to restrict running, swimming and some of the activities that you have mentioned.
      The RNIB site says the following:
      'There is no evidence either way that any of the following activities will cause any problems with your PVD, but some people may be advised to or choose to avoid:
      Very heavy lifting, energetic or high impact exercises, such as running or aerobics.
      Playing contact sports, such as rugby, martial arts, or boxing.
      Inverted positions in activities such as yoga or Pilates.'
      I personally specifically discourage from: Boxing, kickboxing and, combat sports, bungee jumping.
      The issue is, the vitreous is going to come off at some point (partial to complete) and you are trying to prevent it from tearing the retina at the same time.
      But advice can vary from clinician to clinician, country to country.
      The message would be you must also use your own judgement and don't engage in anything too strenuous exercise wise + avoid contact sports for 6-8 weeks.
      Hope this helps.

    • @cb-xyz
      @cb-xyz Рік тому

      @@dreyeforyou Thank you for the quick reply. Just to clarify, when you say combat sport should be avoided, is the reason that we may get punched or kicked in the eye? if so then if no sparring and just punching and kicking a heavy punch bag is ok then? Also when you say too strenuous exercise - does that include Gym Weight machines but don't use too heavy weights? thanks again.

    Hi doctor, wanted your help on something. I see a jelly moving in my eye, it is like a wave of jelly passing on the edge of my vision, not in central vision. It happens 10-15 times in a day. I've had 3 lattice holes (lasered now). But since the laser, I see this jelly moving in my eye. Is this a part of PVD? What does moving of the jelly signify? I've seen 4 doctors (including some very reputed ones), and everyone has told me to 'ignore it'. The best way to describe is a wave of jelly moving inside my eye that is visible to me. Your thoughts on this, what should I do?

    • @dreyeforyou
      @dreyeforyou  Рік тому

      Sorry I cannot comment specifically on your case. If you have seen 4 doctors and then have re-assured you then I guess this is good news. Take care.

    Hi! I have PVD for 2 years. The lights have a phosphorescent soft glow, in the corners of the eyes, just below the eyebrows - they are in the shape of brackets, (a thin crescent) and move quickly only downwards and I can only see them in the dark. I also have strange photopsias (outdoors, short-lived, not permanent) - they are cottony in color - spots about 5 mm. - and they move slowly - like in a liquid, but also from the bottom up - in all directions (on the periphery) Doctors only believe the examination - they say that the retinas are ok. I have a Weiss ring in both eyes and floaters. What test should I request to make sure the PVD is complete? And more :) Any recommendation - how to protect the retina (as much as possible) when sneezing and coughing?

    • @dreyeforyou
      @dreyeforyou  Рік тому +1

      Hi. Thank you for your response and detailed description, I read it with intrigue.
      Tests are not really done in clinical practice to check if a PVD is complete.
      I wouldn't be concerned about coughing and sneezing as they are unavoidable.
      Thanks for your time.

    Hello sir
    I am 46 years old and very high myopic with aprox -12 power.
    Had flashing lights and a large Y shaped floater the very next day.
    It happened around a month back and have been checked by retina specialist thrice since then.
    He says i have had PVD but my retina is absolutely fine.
    But this large weiss ring FLOATER is bothering me a lot.
    Does this Weiss Ring ever go away or may be become lighter and more tolerable in future.
    Please advise as i am really upset.
