As we sit here today as National Champions, don't ever forget about what got us here. This game put Georgia back on the map as a SEC power, and allowed us to be in this position today. So grateful for what Mark Richt did for us.
This game brings back some great memories for sure! I wish Georgia would go back to using the silver pants and the shiny red jersey they had back then. The current uniform's color is kinda flat with that new material everybody went to.
These intros for college sports games from late 80’s to the mid 00’s are so good - instead of turning on woke live tv I love going back to when sports were awesome! Nostalgia gets me every time (especially the great announcers and college venues)
Perhaps a geeky trivia point, but in 2002 Georgia played in the last SEC Championship Game and Sugar Bowl on AstroTurf. Both the Georgia Dome and Superdome changed to the newer artificial turf after this season.
The 2 times UGA won the SECCG it didn't matter bc unlike UT, LSU x3, UF x2, Auburn x2, Alabama x5 who all went on to play for the title or the playoffs, UGA went to a lesser bowl after winning the SEC.
Unfortunately, both times they won it, they had losses while Miami and Ohio State in 2002 and Texas and USC in 2005 (Although USC's wins that year were taken away from them) didn't.
Amazing that, as of this typing, this is the only SEC title under Mark Richt. And the UGA boosters actually thought that getting rid of a coach who never won less than eight games in a single season for Richt was a great idea.......
+TheLegacyofWrestling 2005 has an *. LSU played the entire season including the SECCG without a week off due to Katrina. And many of the LSU players had family moved around the country.
