  • @kerry9125
    @kerry9125 3 роки тому +1013

    Every surfer knows what it's like getting stuck in the impact zone and taking massive waves on the head in succession, and how terrifying it can to be held under, sometimes pinned flat on the bottom, counting your seconds and wondering what he'll you're doing out there. Then your body is less bouyent in the foam following the wave, so it takes longer to get to the surface. You come up gasping for air, only to get hammered by another one. But these waves are among the biggest in the world. Without those inflatable vests and the jetski rescue a lot of these guys would die.

    When I was a young man, there was a place in Hawaii called Kaena Point. It had waves sixty feet high. We often wondered back in 1969 if such waves could ever be ridden, but we doubted it. The largest waves surfers were riding then were the 20' walls at Waimea. Now, waves of 100' are routinely being successfully ridden. I'm glad that I have lived long enough to see the day. It is a public beach in the Black sea and so far i only used to swim in Adriatic and Aegean sea. The waves there were 3+ meters high and the first time i felt i could not control where i was going with waves pulling me away from the shore and crashing on top of me. It was all happening 30 meters off from the beach. And i gathered my strength and powered through and out. The things that stood out to me:
    *You can see that speed the first guy got, which just goes to show how fucking fast you go on waves like these.
    *The size of the wave looked to be around 15-20ft from the go-pro. But when I saw the footage from the shore, I was mind blown by how big it actually was, (my estimate is like 30-40ft, am I close?) Edit: 60-70ft
    *The giant boom I heard while you were riding the wave is just gargantuan. I’ve surfed 8-10ft waves that make that kind of sound so it was crazy to hear it on a wave like this. Wow!
    *The little pocket where you were able to breathe for a second while getting slammed by the whitewash was interesting.
    *You were under for about 10-15 seconds each time u got slammed.
    Such a gnarly video, glad you were safe and so stoked about just happened. Respect to you, and the jet ski guys!🤙

    Waves are not to be underestimated... A few weeks ago me and my friends got in the cold ocean when our boat sank (in Sweden so it's really cold there). We managed to swim ashore and got help from some locals, one of my friends was in thermoshock. Anyway, the biggest obstacle was the waves. If I hadn't realized that there was NO WAY to get to shore against the waves (we swam with the waves instead ashore further away) we could be dead by now. The waves I experienced were not even over a meter tall, but even so we had no chance of swimming against them to land.
    Have respect for the ocean and always wear a life jacket if you're going out there! Also, this guy could have had a whistle on him, that's way easier to hear.

    A real inspiration kai, my 6 year old watches you in amazement and for that positive influence im a very grateful dad! Amazing footage bro, what an absolute pounding from that 2nd wave on the head with nowhere to dive! 😂. Peace

    GoPro’s wide angle always makes the wave seem smaller....and this still looks massive. Yewww 🤙🏼

    I’ve been playing around in big waves alot and i know how powerless you are against them. But the waves in nazare are just next level.

      You can't fight against it no matter how strong you think you are in these conditions. Not only against the wave's towe drag but the rip currents as well.

      I think it's on purpose.
      The high pitch might be better heard/distinguished when you're in the middle of the rumbling ocean.

    I died 10 times just watching😱😱😱 This place is insane ! We visit Nazaré every summer and I know how strong these waves at Praïa Do norte are, especially during a winter swell. Big up to the jet ski team, one of our surf coach from Nazaré is a bodyboarder there and part of the jet ski crew...👋 Dino Carmo. Insane shooting Kai Lenny.
